The greatest I tells ya!!!

I know you're being a smart ass.... but...yes, that is one of the reasons I admire the man. He had no problem telling it like it is. Including telling someone to fu ck off in the House.

Oh yes- and we have met- I have an excellent memory and saved that photo. Mind you when I am done with updating it shall we say it will be the Donkey smiling- Not you, the other Donkey. He has a huge dick and is the smart one. I think he will be driving you home.

There were others that used it after the Romans and before Hitler. Either way, it's a fu cking hand gesture. It's like the mental midgets that got all bent out of shape because of Trudeau's finger.

Gestures like words can and do become offensive over time due to changes in public perception- knowledge- what that gesture / phrase is associated with.

I agree, but the viewer gives it as much or as little power as they see fit.

If you empower it, you give away your power.

That isn't to say that the act should be defended or negated as the hypocrites seem to think.

If Harpers stormtroopers did it, this board would be on fire, lol.

Yup, they can be offensive. I'm sure that was the point of the whole exercise. So what? It's not like they used a gun and killed anyone, or dropped a bomb on civilians.

He didn't say fu ck off. He said Fuddle Duddle. I remember the headlines.

Yep, they really weren't too far off the mark.
I got two neg reps from two rabid conservatives for that remark. Whoda thunk? Must be doing my job: "Doing My Part To Piss Off The Religious Right!" (a bumper sticker a young man gave to a couple of years ago. Thought it suited me.)

There is no justification for using that gesture. None.

And there's no justification for the constant abuse of our political system by the current government...and yet it's treated as somehow normal now.

A simple mocking gesture by MPs isn't going to bring this country down, what the Conservatives have been consistently doing for the last six years raises questions of whether or not we even have a democracy anymore.

All this beating of Conservative breasts in outrage is mere posing by a government that has mastered the art of the con, not the art of true public service...we're almost totally left out now.

Because its no different that the abuses of our political system under the majorities ofChretien, Mulroney and Trudeau.

You mean when the Conservatives held power at the whim of the NDP, Bloc and Liberals?

Again this is nothing new in Canadian politics: its all about spin and manipulation. Chretien was a master at both divide and conquer and deflecting attention from where it would be most damaging to his party. Trudeau and Mulroney were equally and differed mainly in style.

I will agree with the Liberal people on this point: anyone offended by what a racist twit like Heddy Fry does, needs to gain some perspective.

Of course it is, what went on in the past was ad hoc, what's going on now is unstated official policy. It was the gaps in the systems that were taken advantage of in the past, this government has gone out of it's way broaden the old ones and to create new gaps in oversight and transparency then use them for it's own advantage. Comparing the Liberals to the Conservatives is like comparing a Jamaican Posse with the Medellin Drug Cartel. The government we have now is almost solely focused on doing as much as possible out of the light of scrutiny.

I didn't say the Conservatives aren't very skilled at playing the game, I said it hasn't been for our benefit. The very first action of Steven Harper was to bring in a former Liberal cabinet minister from Nanaimo or somewhere, David Wilson or something I forget his name, probably to get the scoop on how the Liberals got around the accountability issue.

Again this is nothing new in Canadian politics: its all about spin and manipulation. Chretien was a master at both divide and conquer and deflecting attention from where it would be most damaging to his party. Trudeau and Mulroney were equally and differed mainly in style.

It is in scale and focus, what we have now is a federal government that represents even narrower special interests than the last government and does it in a way highly corrosive to the best long term interests of the nation. What happened in the past was in spite of the controls in place to prevent abuse of power, what we have now is in lieu of those controls.

I will agree with the Liberal people on this point: anyone offended by what a racist twit like Heddy Fry does, needs to gain some perspective.

She didn't create the disrespectful tone of the current Parliament, the Conservatives did, there are potentially Conservative MPs in the House who are only there because some of their campaign workers illegally posed as elections officials to misdirect voters the party went to a fair degree of cost and time to identify as non-supporters in the first place. As I said, respect is a two way street and the Steven Harper government hasn't had enough respect for the citizens of Canada to keep us honestly informed on important issues like the economy, environment, the war in Afghanistan, and more. It's probably engaged in election fraud in more than one case as with in-and-out financing and nothing meaningful has been done to bring them to account...and now a few foolish Liberals are threatening our tradition and honor by making a stupid gesture?

You're right as Canadians we truly need to gain some perspective.

WHO CARES????

Same as the protesters in Quebec giving the fascist salute.........it is an insult, and a childish one, but really it is nothing beyond that.

WHAT BS!!!!! First of all, I haven't noticed that Harper slapped on martial law, as did Trudeau.

Nor has there ever been any hint of him taking money, like Mulroney.

Nor havev I seen any mobsters in cabinet, nor shady deals with arsonist hoteliers, nor the use of the RCMP as a kind of gestapo to persecute those who would not enable Chretien's corruption.......

NOT EVEN CLOSE.

.

Then perhaps you should pay attention....and I thought bipartisanship was a good thing.

RIGHT!

Trudeau calling MPs "those nobodies" was extremely respectful, the "Rat Pack" was called that because they were so polite, and Chretien instructing his cronies to cry out "racist" every time a Reform MP stood to speak...

That is what you call "respect"........
