It is moist enough for the pastures to recoup this year so it will be get in get out before August.

Enviro inspectors? Don't get me started.....

I had one watching me one day and he phones my boss and tells him i'm scalping the grass on the pasture with the grader,I jumped out and walked right up to him and said what the fu*k am I doing wrong here, when he said he thought I was scalping grass I pointed out that theres 6 feet of frost in the ground and a d9 cat couldnt scalp the grass if it wanted to without sinking a freaking ripper into it.

I find most enviro inspectors are all fresh out of school and the real pipeline and rig inspectors are all old school experienced hands, most dont have a grade 12 but they are the best to deal with as they have been there and done it.

Thanks everyone for the useful information. We have heard that Sas is sponsoring Irish but was at the expo last weekend here in Dublin and it looks like everyone and their mother are applying. We put our names down anyhow in the hopes that we might get lucky. Apparently it was even worse in the Cork expo. Jobs here are pretty bad. The plan might be to move to Sas, if we get the opportunity, and then relocate to Calgary once we have fulfilled our end of the residency application. Might I also ask (roughly) the cost of living in Calgary, as at the moment I'm only guessing figures. We need to make sure that we would be able to afford to live there. Thanks again.

According to McLeans article Nova Scotia is going to be short handed with the new ship building program. Course many residents may come home from Alberta when the work starts.

One advantage AB has over other provinces is no provincial sales tax. On my many visits to Calgary, I found prices are acceptable (as much as they can in this day and age) .

You give no context regarding the cost of living or your expectations. Comparative rental or home purchase, food etc costs (converted into your currency) can be easily found by a search, which as an IT person you would know about.
Ditto for food and transportation. IT jobs are listed in local papers and on websites as well.

Once you have met the people in Saskatchewan, I seriously doubt you will want to move anywhere else - seriously.

P.S. See if you can bring Rory with you. LOL!

Well, I'm not the IT person, my husband is. I was looking mainly for the comfortable cost of living for a family of four. Not looking for exact figures as everyone is different but more along the lines of payscale. That is to say how much would you need to earn in order to live comfortably, irrespective of renting or buying - either way it depends on where you want to live and the type of house, same as any other country.
