So... our big blizzard has started here in Massachusetts. An equivalent to flurries in Canada.

But what is REALLY getting me going is our illustrious Governor Patrick has banned all driving after 4PM.

That means nobody to man the bars on a Friday!

I live in the ultimate liberal nanny state. I KNOW that he felt a little tingle banning all travel on a Friday night. Lib Democrats so get off on telling people what they can't do.

Yep gotta chuckle at the knuckleheads that panic if they see more than a half dozen snowflakes. Around here, if you can only see 5' in front of your car, you may be late for work, but you're still driving there, albeit slowly.

24 Hour Local coverage. All the Libs giving us advice on what to do. Call 911 in an emergency, make sure we have water, etc. To the State Govt. here in Mass... we are children who need to be told what to do at all times. They get off at these times.

A red blooded American would ignore the illustrious twit instead of clogging up threads with namby pamby whining about what some good smelling liberal dog poop picking lattee drinking left wingnut poofter pinko makes you do. You get out there and stay till last call, he can't do that to you ES, it's unconstitutional.

Well, if the government doesn't take care of the people, they get thrown under the bus. Someone slips and gets hurt, it's the government's fault. Hell, we had a mosquito boom in the city once and people's first reaction was 'what's the government doing about it?'

I try not to scoff at 'little blizzards' anywhere else because even here in Canada the first snow falls cause chaos. People have the memory spans of gold fish, and forget how to drive on snow. Plus, when it's warm, a little snow can be a catastrophe. It doesn't take much sticky snow to turn roadways into snot, and drag down tree limbs into power lines.

Wow, and I thought I lived in the ultimate nanny state, well province actually. Come to think of it though, our ban on smoking in your own vehicle with minors aboard did come from Maine, which is pretty close to Mass., I guess. PLEASE DON'T LET OUR ILLISTRIOUS SOCIALIST LEADER DARREL DEXTER KNOW WHAT YOUR GOVERNOR DID!!!! Things are bad enough here already, and we're bracing ouselves for that same storm.

BTW, how bad is it down there? I hear it is pretty bad in Ontario, which is west of you guys, so I don't know if we are expecting a convergence of storms here, or if its just one biggie. I do know that I got a call a couple of hours ago informing me my first two flights tomorrow are already cancelled, and to call first before heading to work for the third because the whole day might be a write off.

I guess the road clearing crews are going to have a tough time legally getting to work, and doing it too, I wonder if he thought of that .

Mosquito invasions? Just call me "Les Swatmore Gilbert". The critters don't seem to bug me much unless they buzz around in front of me too much. I found out that having had a little rattlesnake venom is a good thing to combat the effects of skito bites.

lol @ "memory spans of goldfish". Thing is, this is the middle of winter, not the beginning of it. Even in Mass.

Ontario, which is west of you guys
lol Hey! Quit feeding the ego of Torontonians. There's a little bit of ON that's a bit north of MA, too. :D

I read that the state dropped it's tolls to help speed the clearing of the roads.

I'm on call this weekend, and depending on how bad the roads are tomorrow I won't be heading into work. The fish can go a few days without a meal. Not worth injury or damage to my vehicle.

Not all Ontarians are from Toronto, but Torontonians, even Missaugans, Burlingtonians,(if that's what they're called) don't need anyone else to feed their egos, they're pretty good at it themselves .

Truth be told, snow storms out here can be some nasty, especially if you're near the coast. You can get freezing rain first, then a pile of snow, or a pile of snow, then rain, or freezing rain. I've seen trucks, and houses for that matter, that looked like they'd buried 'till spring. I've lived in every province, (except Quebec, PEI and NL), and experienced winter in all of them, and all parts of them, and I'll tell you, and I've seen east coast snowstorms that top all of them. But an arbitrary driving ban? You can't legislate good sense, its just wrong.

Banning all driving?? That's crazy.

ES, don't forget to put your boots on if you are going out. And a pair of mittens (with string).

When you get home brush your teeth and be in bed by 9.

I'd LOVE too!

I live walking distance from all the pubs. However if nobody is allowed on the roads they aren't going to open up the bars.

And those libs are all grinning... "See what we did... we are making them all stay home on a Friday night. We are controlling them."

BTW, how bad is it down there? I hear it is pretty bad in Ontario, which is west of you guys, so I don't know if we are expecting a convergence of storms here, or if its just one biggie. That is exactly what has happened... a convergence of two storms. The one that came down from Canada and the one that swung up through our Mid-Atlantic states. They are meeting right over my head.

It's actually snowing pretty hard.

Well, if the government doesn't take care of the people, they get thrown under the bus. Someone slips and gets hurt, it's the government's fault. Hell, we had a mosquito boom in the city once and people's first reaction was 'what's the government doing about it?'

Oh great... Karrie is going to walk in and be all sensible and logical and present a responsible post to all the tom foolery going on. ;)

Like my in-law's place (a 45 minute drive from here)? Bill has been up on his roof pitching snow UP off it more times than he can count, I'd bet, and the eaves are a good 5 meters off the ground. The driveway's looked like a tunnel, same for the paths between the carpark and the doors.
We do get freezing rain here, too, that may also come with dense fog instead of snow.

Wow! Banned?!? Really? I think the most I've ever heard is the local governments plead with people to stay home in bad storms. I think the official phrasing may be "We strongly suggest...".

Tell me your liquor cabinet is well stocked!! Otherwise I'll worry. ;)

Of course. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. In the time honoured traditions of all governments, lol.

That's a tad insulting to gold fish. What I've seen of some folks trying to drive during a snowstorm, you just know inside their head the hamster is off the wheel.

Well that is what they used to do. Now they are so emboldened that they just forbid and ban stuff here. In Massachusetts, liberal Democrats have no natural predators so they do whatever they want.

Yes I am good there. I brew my own beer so it my stock is stronger than the pubs anyways. :)

Bizarre.

Mind you I do wish more people would stay off the roads in bad weather. There are enough foolish drivers in clear conditions.

It just came across the news... anyone caught on the road can face up to a year in prison and a $500.00 fine. They love doing this.

Party at your house, lol.

One of my beers... you'll feel a bite. Two or three... you've got a real good buzz going on.
