In a word, yes...

Bring back the gun where death is almost certain.

Three in the face ace and screw the mace.

It's not the gun. It's how much energy transfer there is no matter if pistol or taser. A 0.22cal short would kill at about the same rate as a taser but leaves heavy damage.

So if you compare taser to 0.22cal short both are equally lethal based on the amount of energy released.

BUT....taser is mellow compared to what else sits in the wings to replace it.

Next comes microwaving people one at a time or in mass.

No, they should not be banned entirely.

They should simply be reclassified as lethal force, which means they could only legally be used if "you or another person is in immediate danger of death or greivous bodily harm" Exactly the same as the firearm.......leaving the officer a choice of weapons.

In BC last week two officers shot to death a man who ran at them with a utility knife.....a completely justified, if unfortunate, shooting. Neither officer had a Taser........this would have been the perfect time for one.

A friend in Halifax, a police officer, confronted a nutcase in a mall with a sword......he did not attack, but neither did he surrender....he threatened them with it. He was Tasered........all to the good.

The problem is officers using the Taser as a compliance tool instead of a self-defence tool.

No, tazers should not be banned. They should be given a power level switch and barbs that have to be surgically removed.

I concur completely with your assessment of the situation!!! Make Tasers
a Tool (and not a Toy) of Law Enforcement, with harsh criminal penalties
for their misuse...

That's why I've always supported full load hollow point 9mm rounds being issued to all Canadian Law enforcement agencies and Border Guards.

Cops go home, criminals, the morgue.

Dead things don't fight back.

Seems simple to me...;-)

The problem with tasers is the lack of a reasonable policy regarding their use. When taser were first introduced, they were lauded as a miracle tool that could incapacitate a villain without harming him/her. We now know that tasers are not harmless. I think the big danger with tasers is that they are an impediment to good police work. It is a proven fact that some people die when tasered. For those people a bullet in the brain would not have been much different. We should take the tasers away until we can re-educate the police in their use.

and if the officer screws up and shoots the wrong person...... a 9mm tap to the head so he/she doesn't screw up again.

No- What has to be banned is idiots on the force who use them as a means of going on a power trip. There is nothing wrong with using them sensibly when confronted with a dangerous criminal getting out of control. But you don't use them on an elderly gentleman who was stopped for a vehicular infraction (as recently happened in Kelowna). In the old days some young cops got a swelled head as soon as they were issued with a badge, a gun and a cruiser- now you can add a taser. Perhaps tasers should be issued only to those with 20 years good standing on the force.

Nope, dismissed from the force, charged and tried.

I've seen tiny little female cops take down 350lb biker types and have them in tears with a wrist or thumb lock. Making them cry mommy in public shaming the **** out of them is far more empowering and effective than any weapon.

BTW this was a guy with a knife.

Booooo, hissssss....

Can't say as I would care though Ron. Three in the face before he had a chance to squeeze off a couple staples works too.

Son of an RCMP Officer here.

He still bares the scare on his face from a knifing, that nearly cut his tongue off.

His partner had to pistol whip him to get him to stop boot f*****g the guy.

My Dad second guessed himself, he says he should unloaded his revolved in his face as he came at him.

Live and learn...;-)

And education to iterate that it is not illegal to videotape anything
in a public place where a reasonable expectation of privacy does
not exist!!!

Make the illegal request/order to stop videotaping police in public
a Criminal offense!!! Law Enforcement that Taser/assault the public
for using a video camera to film the police should receive an
automatic ten years sentence, and any other applicable charges. We
should all be the same in the eyes of the law...

Considering the amount of crimes that people can get pathetic sentences for, I think a 10 year sentence is way too much.
