Good point gerryh
It's actually been longerr than that but who's counting..
and those attack ads are one of the reasons I will not be voting for Harper.

Japan's economy has been excellent prior to the Wall Street gang rape and doing quite well since. It's Japan who is funding A-Stan and Iraq and they have all the contracts to supply the steel to rebuild the Iraq oil infratructure and the steel for the pipelines and industrialization of A-Stan.
Back to the election...I can guarantee the outcome of an election right now. More of the same BS. It will not matter one iota who wins or whether it is a majority or minority. The money that backs all parties is corrupt and has other motives than the good of the country ergo nothing will change.
So can I assume from your post you don't like democracy ??
I like attack adds, they are just another form of communications that you have to consider who to vote for.
Without attack adds, it just becomes a politically correct campaing, and I want to get to the guts of an issue.

Actually they are all a bunch of sleaze balls- if the electorate was smart none of us would vote for ANY of them.
I'm curious why an election is "dreaded" as put forth in the title?
We should have had one last year.
I'll admit I'm annoyed by all the harassment of polls, lawn signs, home TV ads, road side TV ads, kick boxing, pillow fights, radio squabbles and wiener roasts.
I don't "dread" an election in the advertised definition of the term but I most certainly dread the psychological, physical, financial and emotional abuse thrust upon the unwitting masses.
I have asked this question for a long time.
What would they do if they held an election and nobody showed up to vote?
Obviously the pols and their corporate buddies will show and so will most government employees so there will always be some turn-out, but is there a minimum number of voters required to make it legitimate? If there is a minimum what would be the result if that minimum was not met? Could we, the working class, run a separate, simultaneous election and seize power from the established corrupt system?
Anyone want to takle these questions?
That is funny. You think attack ads are democratic. Attack ads are an avoidance of issues. They appeal to the emotions, stifle critical thought and hide the real issues behind a smoke screen of BS. But I noticed by your posts that that is your style, so it is understandable that you like them.So can I assume from your post you don't like democracy ??
Sounds like our country is going to the dump!!!I would say that our system is broken and nothing will change.

Errrr, are you doing anything to try to change it ??just asking !!
Ah, you've forgotten (conveniently) that the NDP and Liberals are dumping the Conservative government because they are not spending ENOUGH money.......
I hope that clears it up for ya!

Harper as war-monger?
Oh come on!
Canada has not pulled its weight on the military front since that scumball idiot Trudeau destroyed the armed forces in the seventies. Well, until Afghanistan, that is.........and the Liberals got us into that, but it was the Conservatives that made sure the military had the weapons to fight.........
Otherwise, I actually agree, to an extent.
The Conservative love of mandatory sentencing and the war on drugs is idiotic.
As for Corrections Canada doing a good job, well.......only if you think serial killers should be provided with victims as a part of their prison "rehabilitation". Look up the news on one inmate named McGray.
It is just that the Conservatives are soooo much better than the alternative in any case...............and it begins to appear there is no alternative if you care for the country.
A coalition including the Bloc is NOT an acceptable alternative.
"As leaders of the opposition parties, we are well aware that, given the Liberal minority government, you could be asked by the Prime Minister to dissolve the 38th Parliament at any time should the House of Commons fail to support some part of the government’s program. We respectfully point out that the opposition parties, who together constitute a majority in the House, have been in close consultation. We believe that, should a request for dissolution arise this should give you cause, as constitutional practice has determined, to consult the opposition leaders and consider all of your options before exercising your constitutional authority. Your attention to this matter is appreciated.
Gilles Duceppe, Jack Layton and Stephen Harper, September 9, 2004"
If you plan on voting Liberal or NDP please challenge your candidate......demand a commitment from the top NOT to include the Bloc in any coalition.
Tell me how attack ads add to the political debate. How can people decide anything or think critically when the issues are avoided. To my thinking, attacking the opposition on a personality basis is meaningless drivel to hide the fact that the parties are afraid to discuss the issues or don't want the electorate to be informed. Attack ads are not information - just mud slinging, a muddying of the waters. It has nothing to do with freedom of expression, it just amounts to a bunch of emotionally retarded kids beating each other over the heads with their Tonka toys ina sand box. I don't want to be represented by a bunch of emotional retards. I want people who can think and solve the problems that we are facing. But I see you prefer the emotionally retarded type of politics.Sounds like our country is going to the dump!!!
Errrr, are you doing anything to try to change it ??just asking !!
Attack ads avoidance of issues, emotional, stifle critical thought etc etc, can't handle it eh??? So you want someone to tell you how to think, what to think etc etc, and probably you want someone to tell you how to vote. I guess you dont like freedom of expression or thought either.
Not me, I love democracy and I have a lot of faith in the Canadian voters.
So to those running, I say bring it on, MOST of us can handle it and can see thru the stupidity (cliffy is an exception).!!
Harper came to power promising transparency. The first thing he did was build a brick wall and shut everybody out. It will take a change of government to find out what happened behind those locked doors of the PMO. I'm thinking we will find Brian Mulroney hiding in Harper's closet with fists full of cash.
Mr. Harper did promise transparency, Cliffy and I agree that he has not shown that to be the case so far. He has, however, taken down some of those brick walls over his tenure. He always had a problem with the media and loose lips and I wasn't totally against his measures to keep his members in line when it came to shooting their mouths off - little good it did him though. He has 'mellowed' somewhat in his distrust of the media and seems to have a better handle on them now. I doubt you will find Brian hiding anywhere near Stephen as their relationship never was the best to begin with and since the commission where 'Runey' had to admit he took a bag of money - well his credibility is certainly in question. Mulroney hated, hated the Reform party, thought they were a bunch of upstarts, especially as they come from the dreaded 'West', just another reason that he won't be hanging around.

I also loathe attack ads, Cliffy. They add nothing to the political discourse. I fume everytime I see the Conservative ads attacking Iggy and have given up writing my MP about the stupidity and waste of money - it is not like they are telling Canadians anything they don't already know. Sheesh!
I do really like the Conservative ad with Stephen Harper talking about Canada and showing him with his family. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about Canada. ;-)
...his measures to keep his members in line...
Now this here is what makes me lose it over our current system and cry out for change to a 'no party' system. They are not his members they are ours. They are there to do the bidding of those that cast the ballots to elect them and not follow blindly behind some maniac power-tripper who is beholden only to his corporate backers.
Errr, yes.
I am constantly in the face of my local MP & MLA. I also try to email the PM, Premier and their cabinets as well as all the opposition leaders at least once a week to express my opinions and ask what they are doing and where they stand on issues.
I am also heavily involved with the leadership of Canada Uncut. If you do not know what this is please go to canadauncut.net or look us up on facebook or twitter. We are trying to get the banks, corporations and wealthy to pay their share and close all the 'offshore' loopholes they use.
I am also trying to gather support to form a group to institute governmental reform lobbying for laws or constitutional ammendments to hold our politicians accountable to the people and remove all corporate money and influence from the government.
What are you doing??
