Lowering taxes gives less revenue then when Democrats/Liberals are in power bringing up taxes
Conservatives/Republicans get a pass because they lower taxes.
Liberals/Democrats pay down the debt because they raise the tax every time in office

the idea of never repaying the debt is pretty much a thing now. Especially the Americans. It took the most powerful Liberal government in history to take the measures necessary to reduce the debt and it resulted in their destruction. The enemies they made paying down that $90 billion finally reared up and smote them.
Along comes a little lacky like Harper and boom - the debt spiral is back in spades. IN 5 years he had reborrowed the $90 billion the Liberals had managed to dispatch and then added a brand new $60 billion on top of that.
And now the righties are worried about Trudeau running a deficit?

We were not paying as much taxes. And now we see the writing all over the walls. Liberals are desperate to find new revenue.
If where going to run a deficit regardless we choose one where im paying less tax. That’s fairly simple
The Chretien years where pay federal loans by shortchanging the provincial & municipal government who effectively handed over the costs to you & me by introducing fee’s on everyone, everywhere & everything.

Chretien loathed the military. He probably also hated the Mounties for hunting his many brothers, hiding in the woods near Shenanigan, during conscription at the end of WWII.

They aren't.
No Canadian government will ever pay down the debt again. It is far too politically costly and none of them will ever have that kind of capital. The Liberal government of the 1990s was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
