The Chretien years where pay federal loans by shortchanging the provincial & municipal government who effectively handed over the costs to you & me by introducing fee’s on everyone, everywhere & everything.

Chretien and Ralph Klein were the Bobsey Twins. Ralph balanced the budget mostly by passing on the problem to municipal governments. I give them credit for balancing budgets but they did nothing to fix the systemic problems so the minute tough times hit, we started the same cycle all over again.

Oh for sure. The jacking off of the cat to feed the dog was legendary budgeting by that government. Ive been doing the same thing too balance my own home budget ever since i learnt it.

I was a fan of them paying down the debt by $90 billion

I was a huge fan of them too back then, until i realize how awful their Equalitarianist ideology really are. Now i can’t stand their victimhood politics.

I rather vote for less political correctness. A squeaky wheel gets the oil government is really only looking to take care of everything & everyone other then me.

Im the targeted demographics they are intent on forcing to pay for their social crusades. Apparently i should pay extra for being born white and male. Just to help the equilibrium needed in achieve their communist ideology

the idea of never repaying the debt is pretty much a thing now. Especially the Americans. It took the most powerful Liberal government in history to take the measures necessary to reduce the debt and it resulted in their destruction. The enemies they made paying down that $90 billion finally reared up and smote them.

Along comes a little lacky like Harper and boom - the debt spiral is back in spades. IN 5 years he had reborrowed the $90 billion the Liberals had managed to dispatch and then added a brand new $60 billion on top of that.

And now the righties are worried about Trudeau running a deficit?

Where were you when Harper was ruining us?

My God, I can't believe the crap you write. I mean that in the nicest possible way. :)

It took the most powerful Liberal government in history to take the measures necessary to reduce the debt and it resulted in their destruction.

No. What caused their destruction was they were the most corrupt Canadian gov't since.......well, since 1900 anyway. Mobsters in cabinet, appointments to Denmark to save them, bank managers that resisted corruption destroyed, millions stolen, etc etc etc.

And btw, the revenue stream in Chretien's gov't increased madly, due to Mulroney's GST and NAFTA. He was as responsible for saving our fiscal sanity as was Chretien/Martin.

And while we are at it, we were in that position in the first place because of the insane fiscal policies of one person: Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

Along comes a little lacky like Harper

The most competent PM in the last 50 years. Not that the competition was much.

In the midst of the worst financial crisis in a generation or two, and at the insistence of the Liberals.

And now the righties are worried about Trudeau running a deficit?

These are good times. We're supposed to be paying down debt in good times.

Where were you when Harper was ruining us?

Ahhh....Harper balanced the budget.......

You know, you are rapidly drifting towards the same status as Mentalfloss in my eyes.

Arrogant, extremely partisan, ignorant of the facts, and childish.

At least you don't advocate street violence.

Do you?

And I think you are a kid, which would be a reason for the arrogance and ignorance..........if not an excuse.

I doubt you're fooling anybody.

I see you switch your avatar to match mine for a while this morning. I'm so in your head.

Ralph had to spend the Heritage Fund to do it. Odd how little details like that end up in the dust bin. lol

Get him to take a pic in the same clothes he was wearing when he said he met Boomer.

I truly hope y'all manage to elect a government that'll pay down the debt some. We will never do the same, I fear, but I think there's still hope for you.

[/I]The most competent PM in the last 50 years. Not that the competition was much.

Harper increased the debt by $150 billion dollars.

Not sure how we can be in a thread about Liberals and deficits where that is bad and the best PM ever was one of the worst borrowers ever.

Still less than Harper borrowed.

And apparently he's the best!

Harper spent his debt on infrastructure upgrades.... Any thoughts on what tater tot spend his debt on?

I know you don't like answering this question, but it would go a long way in your understanding of the big picture if you did
