I'd say that the scarlet letter has faded somewhat, but he will never be what he was.

He definitely doesn't have the draw factor that he once had. I wonder if it was due to his antics, the fact that he is older now (not really much of an action star anymore), or a combination of both?

Maybe not but he will not be giving it away. It s worth much more than what he paid for it and he will cash in nicely.

I wonder if they'll go after Jay-Z next.
No doubt he would cash out pretty well.

Him leaving is no guarantee. All could blow over. But I think there are some testy legal issues in this situation that could come to a boil, if the NBA doesn't first ask him for the keys.

What legal issues?

And the NBA can ask for the keys but as long as they hand over a ship load of cash in exchange.

I,m not exactly comfortable with the other end of the spectrum on this .

I heard Charles Barkley say this on TV today and winced.
We can't have an NBA owner discriminating against a league — we're a black league.”
Charles Barkley speaks out on Donald Sterling allegations - CBSSports.com

On this subject of racism.
This morning after hearing this I reflected on my life.
(Ya'll can take that nap now if you wish.....lol)

i was brought up at time in Canada where blacks where really a minority and their average jobs were one of service.

Porters and doormen and cleaners , cooks , were mostly the norm for a black person.

Racism was more apparent in Canada at this time but i was different.
I stood up against it, fought against it , and lost friends over my commitments when i was young.

Years later living in a much different Canada i slipped into just making racist jokes . Hard core racist jokes.

Today i asked myself why. Is it because I'm so comfortable with my non racist bent that i do this and think it harmless.

Or is it just because i see the folly in it all.

I then realized we are still in the throngs of racism and this is no time to get lax in one's attitudes towards it.
The war has not been won.

As for Barkley's statement, i don't know if I want Basketball to be labeled a Black Game for all of eternity.

Gee.... Here we were led to believe only white Anglo-Saxon Protestants could be racist. Nice to see equal rights taking hold. Ugly bas*ard should just go play in his piggy bank

The racist Mr. Sterling was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP in Los Angeles next month.
Maybe he can buy forgiveness

I wanted to start a thread about hockey being a white man's sport and then proving it by using Barkley's statement.

but kinda thought it was counter productive.

The legal issues around employers working in a hostile environment. I see they banned him for life. That is one way of removing the hostility.

You called it, Kreskin. Lifetime ban, $2.5 million fine, and a recommendation to the Board of Governors that Sterling be required to sell the team.

Too bad.

‘Showed no fear’: Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero gets ‘props’ for confronting NBA commish

When Inside Edition reporter Lisa Guerrero asked why the NBA hadn’t acted before, such as when Sterling was involved in housing discrimination, employment discrimination, and sexual harassment lawsuits, Silver responded that he “can not speak for past reactions,” but that “when the NBA was presented with specific evidence, it acted.”

Do you think they could fine him 2.5 Million for saying stuff to his gf on a private call that she recorded and released to the media? Isn't there a freedom of speech thing there somewhere?

No. The NBA is not the government. It is a private party.

Seriously, no BS. Your Constitutional rights exist only against the government. That's all.

Even if the recording was illegally obtained, private parties can use it as a basis of decision making.
