Spike Lee Gets Front Row Seat for Sterling Ban Announcement

our smirking racist

On Tuesday, as NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced a lifetime ban against Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling based on private racist comments he made to his girlfriend, director Spike Lee sat in the front row.

Lee now works for SiriusXM NBA Radio – an outlet run by the NBA. Lee’s racial history is pockmarked with ugly racial comments. In February, Lee complained about the gentrification of Harlem in racial terms, telling an audience questioner who praised changes to the neighborhood, “Let me just kill you right now.” He continued, “Have you seen Fort Greene Park in the morning? It’s like the mother*****’ Westminster Dog Show….When you see white mothers pushing their babies in strollers, three o’clock in the morning on 125th Street, that must tell you something.”

After the Trayvon Martin shooting, Lee posted the address of George Zimmerman’s parents on Twitter. After visiting South Africa in the early 1990s, he stated, “I seriously wanted to pick up a gun and shoot whites. The only way to resolve matters is by bloodshed.”

And he says this of interracial couples: “I give interracial couples a look. Daggers. They get uncomfortable when they see me on the street.”

Lee has starred in NBA commercials, now stars on their radio station on SiriusXM, and is apparently the perfect person for a front-row seat about punishing racism in the NBA.

Well, the good news is that, with his money, Sterling can go start up the Caucasian National Basketball Association. All white all the time.

It wouldn't be the NBA, but I'll bet he could fill the seats.

LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling's Racist Rant Caught On Tape: Report (UPDATES)

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling allegedly tells girlfriend: Don’t bring black people to my games | National Post

Donald Sterling, the owner of the LA Clippers, was allegedly caught on tape telling his girlfriend not to bring bring black people to Clippers games, or to associate publicly with black people at all.

Does the A$$hole actually warrant this much attention?

Does anyone else see all this as bit of overkill.

You've got this senile 80 year old sugardaddy complaining to his 30 year old mistress about being photographed with black athletes. Despite the fact this was a private conversation voicing personal thoughts, without a full transcript or context.. it seems it had little to do with race and much to do with jealousy... AND vengeance on the part of the jilted girlfriend.

Throw the race card in America and its like throwing postassium on water.. everything combusts and boils over, and everyone has an opinion... and no understanding nor objectivity and certainly not forgiveness is tolerated.

It's especially grating when you see these athletes with their multi-million dollar salaries.. luxurious cribs.. jewellery and sports cars.. taking such personal umbrage.. as if race has been the thing that held them in poverty and 'slavery'.. denying them all opportunites to succeed. This when millions of Americans of all races are struggling to put food on the table for their families.

I just have trouble getting worked up about this. And i've even developed a bit of sympathy for Sterling.. who is bearing the full outrage of failing to conform to politically correct speech.. and is to be pilloried and whipped for the offense.

The NBA had one kick at the gun on this. Yesterday was the anniversary if the Rodney King riots. There was the potential for another that would forever alter the brand of the league. It might be overkill but from a business standpoint it might have the only option. Heck the teams were planning to walk off after the game started. It could've gone nuts down there.

Racist Offsets now accepted by NAACP

The LA chapter of the NAACP is refunding Donald Sterling's contributions, for now at least. In a public statement Monday afternoon Chapter President Leon Jenkins said he was open to the idea of talking with Mr. Sterling, to negotiate a price for Racist Offsets no doubt.
"God teaches us to forgive, and the way I look at it, after a sustained period of proof to the African American community that those words don't reflect his heart, I think there's room for forgiveness. I wouldn't be a Christian if I said there wasn't."
Most glorious compassion indeed. Mr. Jenkins continued...
"We are negotiating with him about giving more moneys to African American students at UCLA, and so we are in preliminary discussions."
You read it right, comrades... "negotiations". Mr. Sterling, with an undoubtedly generous "Racist Offsets" donation will be forgiven for his misdeeds. Let no racist rant go unfunded, comrades.
"Mr. Sterling has given out a tremendous amount of scholarships, he has invited numerous African American kids to summer camps, and his donations are bigger than other sports franchises... "

Works for me. If you morons are so determined that skin colour be the determinant of every legal/social/economic decision, the sane people are getting tired of you. Go ahead and re-segregate.

(That was a general "you," not you specifically, Eagle.)

I do not believe their should be segregation. Larry Johnson from the Knicks does... think he'll be banned for life?

Depends on what you think the NBA is trying to achieve. Do you seriously think the league is morally outraged? Or do you think maybe protecting their revenues is more the point?

I do not think it is morally outraged but they had to do this as hypocritical as it was. Punishments are not meted out equally here.

What context would make what he said ok? It wasn't like these were general musings about race relations. They were pointed remarks targeted at the players who work for him and an NBA legend, among general racist remarks about black people.

It isn't like this is the first time he has gotten in trouble for this stuff either.

The guy has obviously been very successful in many business ventures, but what he did here is terrible for business. For the good of the rest of the league, he had to be dealt with.
