I dunno, it's not that simple.
nothing is black and white anymore.
Our society has taken Freedom to do whatever we like to a point where they are doing things that to some are too much and yet we can't do anything because they'll cry out "you're taking away our right to free enterprise!"
one thing always battles another.
the guy who drives the very loud car in the neighborhood at 12am at night, disturbs those who are sleeping... has a cop come by and fine him for it, he complains that he has a right to have his car noisy whenever he wants, yet our freedom to have a quiet neighborhood and sleep without disturbance can be taken away?
The idiot with the car doesn't have any right being infringed upon and just because they might complain or challenge something in the courts, doesn't automatically mean you no longer have the right to a peaceful night's sleep.... everybody is allowed due process in the courts..... if he loses then chances are he'll face a larger fine then he originally would have.
I for one don't believe that Marijuana and Prostitution should be legal.
drugs that are not legal for good reasons should stay illegal.
Good reasons huh?
Just because something is illegal, doesn't automatically mean there was any justifiable reasons for it being illegal other then it being the popular opinion of the time it was made illegal. The reason why pot was made illegal in the first place had more to do with racism, bias, propaganda and ignorance....... and since the government has a hard time ever admitting they did something wrong or did something for the wrong reasons, that is why it has remained illegal for so long.
But this particular topic about marijuana has been debated to death in a number of threads already...... just because you think something should remain illegal because it's already illegal just proves your lack of knowledge on the subject.
And I don't mean that as an insult..... I thought much the same way as you towards marijuana until I actually looked into it, listened to the friends I trusted, read various studies, reports and news articles...... and then through personal experience in trying it to know wtf it's all about.
I highly doubt I'd ever be someone who'd bother to seek prostitution and I can think of better things to burn my money on...... but that doesn't mean I think everybody else should confirm to my way of thinking....... unless it is your body in question, you, I and everybody else shouldn't have a say in what happens.
If buddy down the street wants to sell his or her body for some money, if buddy down the street wants to smoke some dope, drink some beer, or pop some E...... so long as they keep it in their own private life, so long as they pose no risk or danger to the public around them and so long as they can still productively support themselves, society and those under their care..... in a safe manner....... Then it's nobody's business wtf they do, how often they do it or who they do it with.
The only time you have a say is when you're asked if you want sex for money..... or if you're asked if you want to do some drugs......... in other words, you only have a say over what involves you.
I don't tell you how to live your life..... I don't tell you what you can and can not do in your personal life and I highly doubt you'd allow me or anyone else to tell you what to do simply because I or someone else doesn't like what you're doing....... so don't go around acting as though I and others would appreciate your interference in our lives.
If I want to smoke dope all the time, I'm going to damn well do it....... If I wanted to Overdose on a bad batch of Heroin..... guess what?
If I want to sell my penis on the street for some extra money..... guess what?
Do you think I'm not going to do it simply because you don't like those things?
Do you think I'm not going to do those things simply because they're illegal or suddenly made illegal?
Do you think I'm not going to do those things simply because you're ignorant on the finer details of said thing while I have 13 years of 1st hand experience to know what said thing does to my mind and my body, as well as what it does to the rest of my life?
Too much freedom???
The only freedom I think there's too much of these days, is the freedom to take other people's freedom away.
well, they have shown yes that Pot does have some good effects medically but they have also shown that Pot can create problems for people who use it recreationally. it impairs them for things like Driving and coherancy.
so why would you make something legal that can impair your ability to make decisions and driving??
Well if that's the way you think of it, why is alcohol still legal? It impairs your decision making skills as well as your driving ability far far greater then pot could ever accomplish.
I smoke pot virtually every single day, at least once a day and guess what?
I work, I pay my bills, I have a relationship, I still talk to my family/parents, I have a roof over my head, I am independent and have been so since I left high school..... and in a couple of months, I will be moving to Australia, starting a whole new life, starting a family, etc.........
Plus the fact that I can complete my work on time and do it well, while at the same time holding detailed debates in these forums and elsewhere on the internet..... kinda proves your above claims a tad on the wrong side of things.
And for the record, I don't drink alcohol anymore.
I can't stand most drunk people..... I don't like how it makes people violent, want to fight all the time, it makes them depressed, sick to the point of vomiting, or perhaps dying from alcohol poisoning...... or the idiots who drink and decide to drive, ending up killing innocent people and with any luck, kill themselves at the same time.
^ So because of these reasons, should my personal view be adopted and everybody should just accept alcohol as a banned substance?
That would be contradictory to my own beliefs towards a narcotic I believe is far safer and less of a danger to society in general...... but also..... they already tried to make alcohol illegal and look at what happened?
Crime, gangs, police corruption and the underground exploded in size and mass.
The only reason why pot never made it back to a legal status was because most white christians didn't use pot at the time, it was a minority's drug and the opposition against pot being illegal was far smaller then the opposition towards alcohol.
Plus alcohol is physically and mentally addictive..... at best, pot is only mentally addictive..... which equates its addictive traits to that of chocolate.
