“She worked yesterday as a deputy returning officer at a polling station in the parish of Saint-Paul-de-la-Croix, in the Montreal riding of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, our photographer noted,” the article stated in French.
The photo, the newspaper said, shows a masked Payette wearing a yellow Elections Canada nametag, seated at a table with a pen and papers.
Payette, an Canadian Space Agency astronaut and veteran of two NASA Space Shuttle Missions, was appointed as Canada’s 29th Governor General in Oct. 2017.
She resigned this January following an independent review which found she fostered a toxic work environment at Rideau Hall, and that she and her former secretary belittled and harassed staff.
The position remained vacant until former diplomat Mary Simon was sworn in as Canada’s Governor General in July.
Payette is entitled to an annual $150,000 pension for serving as Governor General.
L’ex-gouverneure générale Julie Payette, qui a démissionné dans la disgrâce en janvier, s’est trouvé un nouveau travail le temps d’une journée.
