You'd be very mistaken. Have you noticed you're alone in dissing the man who isn't even cold yet?
I've noticed that people like you are disgusting, that's for sure. Christians tend to be a wide range of beliefs, but azzholes come in all forms.

Just woke up to the news about Jack. It is a sad day for all those in Canada who saw in Jack a politician who truly cared about people and his cause. He will be missed. Farewell Jack, may Gaia bless and keep you safe. My condolences to his family.

God knows I rarely agreed with Jack Layton, but he was, without a doubt, a true believer, and a wonderful leader of the NDP.

Well said, Colpy. There was something special about Jack that even non-believers such as myself felt when they heard him speak and saw the unbridled passion that he brought to politics. He was the heart and soul of the NDP. I will always remember him for taking on Ignatieff in the English language debate during the last election.
I didn't agree with his politics. I didn't care for his approach but even though I thought he was wrong in reallty big ways, I respected that he stayed true to his beliefs. Further to that, having had relatives perish to various strains of cancer, I wouldn't wish his end on anyone.

If you look at those who follow the teachings of JC most closely, who believe in love, tolerance and turning the other cheek, I would say that they should reside to the center left of the spectrum. Most social conservatives who claim to be christian don't follow the teachings, they just try to claim the trappings of the religion.
Jack helped to deliver the coup de grace, but the Bloc was dying without him. Harper was making in-roads prior to this last election too, but I think there has to be a realization by Quebecers that confederation is a sweet deal for them, regardless of some of the percieved downsides, and they wouldn't get anything close to it outside.

Whatever else Jack Layton was, he was a statesmam. He cared about the electorate and the country. Who knows
what he might have achieved in another election or two. If the NDP pick the right new leader to carry on Jack's work,
the possibilities might be endless. If they don't, Jack Layton's work could be wasted. I'm not an NDP voter
but we'll see how it unfolds.

I'm posting this to retract my original post. Jack genuinely loved his country and fought for his principles. I should have saved my disagreements for another thread and time. Sincere apologies to those I offended.

A man who will not be forgotton any time soon, and he achieved so much in the last year. His political
persuasion has nothing to do with anything today.
He will be missed so much, a vibrant man who had so much to live for, and that has been snatched away
from him at far too young an age.
I will not forget him, I will remember his smile, his energy, and his never ending work for all of us,
and this country that he loved so much, we should all feel proud that he was a canadian, and that we
all were part of his journey.
Many sad people today, none more than his immediate family, my heart goes out to them in this time of
grief.

I was just looking at his profile on Wikipedia and it has his religion listed as Christian, which I find very surprising. I thought for sure it was going to say the other thing... I hope it's true.
