There is no dispute that Castro was a dictator.

Mmmmmk.....I hear a but coming.

Nobody can ever say he put his own interests over those of a Cuba his revolution liberated. Castro didn't even live in a palace with faucets of gold - as do some evangelists in a nation that worships money.

I'm just curious how you know this for fact, I'm not referring to the hate filled ignorant comment about money, I'm referring to Castro not living in palaces with gold faucets. I have personally heard "rumors", unverifiable I might add, he has 7 or 8 residences obtained by previous elites in the country. I can't verify either way if he did or didn't. Educate me.....please.

Castro's policies weren't those of a people pleaser simply because he had nobody to please but Cuba. His greatest of policies kept Cuban wealth in Cuba.

Wealth in Cuba, where public buildings are collapsing from decades of neglect, where basic necessities are scarce or even completely absent. Let me guess? The embargo!! OK, so there is an embargo by the US Why isn't anyone else trading, like...hmmmm...Canada?

Maybe that's the one reason that nation ruled by money eyes an island to the south of Florida with so much suspicion. They dared to say NO!

Woof!

You mean HE dared to say no, don't you?

What hate? Seems only your own arrogance is reading that. Believe your "rumours". Isn't that what your kind does? All I can go on is the austere image Castro portrayed. Perhaps it is ignorance. Fidel hasn't invited me into his home. Why would I chose to believe one propagandic image over the other.

You're the one drawing the conclusions and assuming yours are right. Could it be the distain anyone feels who dares to be friendly with someone who the spoiled rich kid doesn't like?

You mean HE dared to say no, don't you?

Do you really believe Castro kicked you out all on his own? If that was the case, your Chiquita bananas would still say: Made in Cuba.

Woof!

Arrogant Americans, blah blah, they can't see beyond their borders blah blah, they worship money blah blah. Give it a rest already.

No, my kind researches credible verifiable sources, your kind believes in holograms smashing into skyscrapers.

I didn't ask you to believe one proganda over another, I asked you nicely to please educate me because I couldn't verify either way what he does. So I asked if you knew of any source, since you made the comment, and you preferred to lash out instead.

But you did manage to confirm people talk out of their ass. Gracias.

No it can't, because Canada has been trading with Cuba...well forever. You have banks in Cuba, you're extracting oil in Cuba, you have the highest tourism in Cuba, it's safe to say you can ship them wheat and sugar, no?

No I believe Castro maintains it. Even in the face of destruction (I am speaking natural disasters) he refused assistance. Talk about inflated ego.

Raul Castro succeeds older brother as Cuba's president
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/02/24/castro.html

.....U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called the developments a "significant moment in Cuba's history."

She said Cubans have a right "to choose their leaders in democratic elections" and urged the government "to begin a process of peaceful, democratic change by releasing all political prisoners, respecting human rights, and creating a clear pathway towards free and fair elections.".....

Wow.... and Americans have the right to be ruled under one leader in a communist fashion so that people don't have to worry about the more complex things in life..... AKA: It all depends on your perspective, and just because Rice says so, doesn't make it true. It is Cuba, not the US, not Iraq, not Afghanistan, and Rice or anybody else outside of Cuba has no right to dictate how Cuba should be run.

If the people don't want this kind of rule, then they will make change eventually.

.....As the elder Castro announced his retirement as president, he promised to continue the "battle of ideas" by writing articles.

In an article published Saturday, he scoffed at suggestions in news reports that his retirement would lead to political changes aided by Cuban exiles in the United States.
"The reality is otherwise," Castro wrote on the front page of the Communist Party newspaper Granma in his final published comments as the country's leader.

He quoted approvingly from other articles that said his retirement showed the failure of U.S. officials to affect Cuba's political transition.

Not to mention assasianation attempts which failed over the years.

But although there maybe plenty who hate Castro and what he has done for Cuba, there is also a balance of those who have known no other leader in their lifetime, and many who believe in him and his ability to rule their country.... much as there is in any country.

I am sure there are plenty in the US who dislike Bush and want him gone, and yet, I also bet there are still some who are pleased with his leadership.
