I'm not going anywhere, when you start seeing me posting a lot of thread you will know I'm here to stay. I may take off the kid glove for the assholes like you. Take about a week to get rid of the riff-raff.

If the government declared you dead your drivers licence would not be valid. Probably if your bank found out they would freeze all accounts. It is much more complicated than just canceling a SIN number.

He shouldn't be using his SIN to cash his cheques in any event. He should be using government picture ID such as a drivers license. It's extremely dangerous to put your SIN "out there" and even Canada Revenue will tell you that there are very few situations where you will need a SIN: for your employer and to your bank to open an account/get a loan. There may be one more (but I can't think of any). So he should do fine until the gov't re-issues his SIN. Don't know what the hassle is all about.

Just sayin/

I don't need any ID to cash a cheque.

This revelation may not be about YOU anymore than it's about me, but I believe if one honest hard working Canadian's financial activities are compromised then it's up to our illustrious Gov't. to do something to fix the problems forthwith! :)

There's an exception to EVERY rule, Dixie and if nothing else I believe the man's inability to access his S.I.N. is something the Gov't. should be taking very seriously. One problem I can think of there are some people without bank accounts who need to cash a cheque and many of these don't have drivers' licenses either.

I happen to agree with that, but our gov't doesn't even believe that paying civil servants is a priority. In my opinion, many people involved in the Phoenix disaster (management and deputy ministers) should have been fired, but the gov't does not care.

I'll even go one step further with that............the people who AREN'T firing them should also be fired! :) :)

That would be a hard one to convict him on, if the cheque has his name on it.

Still could be charged which in itself isn't very pleasant, especially after you are already a non person and broke! :)
