RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas has directed the judiciary to award the "utmost punishment" to perpetrators of honor killings, his secretary-general said Friday.
The announcement was made during a talk show on satellite channel Palestine TV to discuss the murder of 20-year-old Ayah Barad'iyya by her uncle.
Abbas' secretary-general At-Tayyib Abdul-Rahim telephoned the presenter and announced on air that the president had ordered a legal amendment to end leniency in courts for men who kill to protect "family honor."

Turkey was the first country to sign on Wednesday a new European convention to prevent and combat violence against women, including crimes based on custom, religion, tradition or “honor.”

It is not uncommon for dowries to exceed a family’s annual income.
While cultures throughout the world have dowries or similar payments, dowry murder occurs predominantly in South Asia. According to official crime statistics in India, 6,822 women were killed in 2002 as a result of such violence. Small community studies have also indicated that dowry demands have played an important role in women being burned to death and in deaths of women being labelled suicides [24]. In Bangladesh, there have been many incidents of acid attacks due to dowry disputes [25], leading often to blindness, disfigurement, and death. In 2002, 315 women and girls in Bangladesh were victims of acid attacks [26]; in 2005 that number was 267 [27].
None of which have to do with the Islamic religion.

Yep, you are correct, that happens in India. Now if the Muslims that do it here in NA would stop, and if the new comers wouldn't bring that mentality with them, it would be great.

Honour killing is tolerated, or is considered to be a justification for murder in much of the Islamic world.....in Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and yes....in the West Bank and especially Gaza. Why do you think Abass had to speak out?

If honour killing is the result of mental disorders, and much of the Islamic world tolerates, and indeed even promotes the practice......then logically, much of the Islamic world suffers from a mental disorder.
