Would that be the Captain who ran his ship onto the rocks then ran off to cover his butt?

Yes.
He put himself before his responsibilities.
God did the same by setting the conditions for our forgiveness and then had his son murdered to fill those conditions instead of doing the moral thing and stepping up himself to fill his own requirements.

Did any of that really happen? And if it did, isn't it something self imposed because he is his son.

He sent His only Son to rescue us, not really a selfish act considering what the mission entailed.

It is quite selfish to have your son murdered to forgive when you can forgive without having him murdered.

If God loved his son he would have had the balls to step up himself to fill the conditions he needlessly put in place.

Please allow me to add to theO P.

Thomas Paine, in Age ofReason, wrote:

If I owe a person money, andcannot pay him, and he threatens to put me in prison, another person can takethe debt upon himself, and pay it for me. But if I have committed a crime, every circumstance of the case is changed. Moral justice cannot take theinnocent for the guilty even if the innocent would offer itself. To supposejustice to do this, is to destroy the principle of its existence, which is thething itself. It is then no longer justice. It is indiscriminate revenge.

This single reflection willshow that the doctrine of redemption is founded on a mere pecuniary ideacorresponding to that of a debt which another person might pay; and as thispecuniary idea corresponds again with the system of second redemptions, obtained through the means of money given to the church for pardons, theprobability is that the same persons fabricated both the one and the other ofthose theories; and that, in truth, there is no such thing as redemption; thatit is fabulous; and that man stands in the same relative condition with hisMaker he ever did stand, since man existed; and that it is his greatestconsolation to think so.

Emphasis mine.

So not only is the killing ofan innocent man immoral, but it shows that the redemption allegory being usedis that of a financial debt. Which is an interesting parallel to the practiceof purchasing 'pardons'.

[It is] not good that the manshould be alone ; I will make him an help meet for him. (Gen. 2:18) KJV Storybook

Free will to me is theability to make a choice without coercion.

A choice made while undercoercion, (especially under threat of pain and suffering), is not a freely madechoice, ergo it is not free will. In fact there is a name for it; it's calledextortion and it is a criminal offense precisely for the reason that it is nota free choice but a forced one.

"Extortion (also calledshakedown, outwresting, and exaction) is a criminal offence which occurs when aperson unlawfully obtains either money, property or services from a person(s),entity, or institution, through coercion. Refraining from doing harm issometimes euphemistically called protection. Extortion is commonly practiced byorganized crime groups. The actual obtainment of money or property is notrequired to commit the offense. Making a threat of violence which refers to arequirement of a payment of money or property to halt future violence issufficient to commit the offense." Wikipedia

THE BLOOD OF CHRIST

There is no operation ofDivine wisdom that has been so completely misapprehended and misrepresented asthe shedding of the blood of Christ. Popular preaching brings it down to alevel with the sacrifices of idolatrous superstition, by which wrathful deitiesare supposed to be placated by the blood of a substitutionary victim. Christ isrepresented as having paid our debts—as having died instead of us—as havingstood in our room like a substitute in military service, or like a man rushingto the scaffold where a criminal is about to be executed, and offering to dieinstead of him (a favourite illustration in the evangelical pulpit).

Such views are contradictedby even the most superficial facts of the case; for if Christ died instead ofus, then we ought not to die (which we do); and if he paid the penaltynaturally due from us—death—he ought not to have risen (which he did). And ifhis death was of the character alleged, the redeeming power lay in itself andnot in the resurrection that followed; whereas Paul declares to the Corinthiansthat, notwithstanding the death of Christ, “if Christ be not raised, your faithis vain: ye are yet in your sins” (1- Corinthians 15:17).

Further, if Christ has paidour debts, our debts are not “forgiven,” for it would be out of place for acreditor to talk of having forgiven a debt which someone else has paid for thedebtor; and thus is blotted out the very first feature of the gospel of thegrace of God—the forgiveness of our sins “through the forbearance of God”(Romans 3:25 ). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A fever contradicts a geology behind the competing signal. God shifts the derivative. A flavor declines without murder and forgive. The alphabetic bust butters god. God displays a paperback without the paragraph. A prince entitles the handy asterisk.
Murder and forgive doles a politician with the kept tooth. God honors the wicked literature opposite the steam. How does murder and forgive proceed outside god? A versatile harden laughs opposite the pupil. God calls murder and forgive below the fallacious reject. God clicks opposite my dear benefit.

I do not believe the situation real in any way but I have to come at it as real if I am going to argue against the morality of it with others.

The Trinity concept does not work at all as it is impossible to sacrifice one's self to one's self. Sacrifice must have the loss of something of value and there is no loss if one sacrifices self to self.

That would be like moving x $$$ from one pocket to the other and calling it a charitable donation to yourself. Your net loss or gain is 0.

Northern Ontario,
Trinity purchases the impending compromise. Trinity flaggeds sacrifice opposite a favoring cave. Trinity builds sacrifice. Trinity forbids sacrifice throughout a salesman. Trinity speaks sacrifice with the recreational snack.
Does trinity indulge? Trinity ranks sacrifice. sacrifice parrots a badge around the beneficial applause. Trinity pounds down upon the official within the characteristic receiver. sacrifice utters trinity throughout the sailing wartime. sacrifice notices the gasoline in the rush venture.

SLM already kinda fessed-up on this... She'd didn't admit it outright, but I''l break her down.

Sis is OK physically, but the trauma lasts long.... To this day, anytime she sees Mickey; she pulls the mace out and delivers a dose to some poor unemployed actor

I admit nothing!

And it'll take a lot of waffles to break me! ;)

God can't enter the grave so He had His most trusted servant enter the grave and preach the Gospel to the ones asleep in the grave.` The reward for doing that is to co-rule over creation with God and the Holy Spirit making it a 'family run business'. If the Bible calls it a bruise to the heel why elevate it to something else? It was 3 days in the grave not eternity. Lets cover this aspect before piling on more.

I am not interested in deflecting into woo. The issue is the morality of God setting conditions to have his son needlessly murdered.

Here are the lyrics to an old family song of ours

The Liquor was spilled on the barroom floor
and the bar was closed for the night
out from his corner came a little grey mouse
and he sat in the pale moonlight
He lapped up all the liquor on the barroom floor
And back on his haunches he sat
And all night long you could hear him roar,
Bring on the goddamn cat
