In Canada the Conservatives were clamping down on registered charities too, only the media focussed on environmental groups. The IRS should be looking at the political activities of registered charities, just like CRA should. Whether they're being discriminatory, well that should be investigated if there is some evidence.

That was a tool for Reagan, Bush, Clinton and others in the White House. I don't think it will ever end either. Nixon tried to break the Goldwater's using the IRS as a weapon.

That is correct - both the IRS & FBI did that to Catholic and other peace groups in the 1960s right up the Bush wars. Nobody objected back then and the news media looked the other way.

Why in the world would a tax collecting agency suspect an anti-tax group of violating tax law?

I don't know what all the hubbub is about. I'm all for profiling as a means of targeting individuals most at risk of offending. Why shouldn't the IRS target anti tax people? Why shouldn't the FBI target extreme fundamentalist Muslims?

It's all about team building:
The latest IRS scandal is getting worse -- and the official watchdog's report hasn't even been released yet. Today we learned that the same IRS office that admitted to targeting Tea Party groups for extra scrutiny also released confidential documents from several conservative groups to "independent" (that is, liberal) news organization ProPublica...

Here's some evidence...

If nobody had objected, you wouldn't know about it.

Where's the evidence of discrimination? I see accusations of it, but no evidence of it. It sounds like the sort of conspiracy Alex Jones would serve up. Do you think in Canada that Harper had CRA discriminate against environmental charities? There are rules that govern tax-exempt organizations. Their political activities are relevant.

The IRS has admitted to it.

Alex Jones is a nut.

And yes, this sounds like something he would serve up.

Which makes the truth of it that much more shocking.

Does the IRS admitting it help you at all?

Well, that's not PROOF, y'know. People confess to crimes they didn't commit all the time, after all.

All I have to say is every single person involved in the lies needs to be shown the door. I'm getting damn sick of people "taking full responsibility" and suffering no consequences. It's been that way since Reno and Waco.

When Trckcky Dock Nxon was the President in the Watergate Hearings he called in the IRS and told them to "Break those *******s." referring to Howard Baker and Fred Thompson who were really leading the charge to get to the bottom of the whole fiasco. They tried but backed off when **** decided to get on the helicopter and head back out west and drop the whole matter after his "Emperor" apsrprations were uncovered.. Then again Clinton tried to use them against a couple who were checking on his story about getting Hummers in the Oval Office from Monica. The DNA revelations shut that all down.

Something is going to go kaboom in the very near future to fill the news with something other than recent Gov. f*ck ups to distract the public.

Anyone care to wager?
