Some folks are just too emotional. There’s no logical reason for locking the guy up and throwing away the key.

Besides, truck driving is a shitty job and it’s hard enough finding people to do it. I feel sorry for the guy
You are right, Cannuck. He's a young person who made one horrendous mistake and will pay for it the rest of his life as the memories will never leave him. The ones who should be thrown in jail are the owners of the trucking company for sending someone out on the road so totally unprepared for the job. He will do some time, hopefully after which he can somehow get his life back together.

Many immigrants who come to this country want our regulations changed, regarding their profession , so their qualifications can be recognized here, this is an example that immigrants do not respect our need to have ALL Canadian regulations inforced before they are able to practice here.

This dude was not qualified to drive a vehicle let alone a large semi

You ****ing asshole you think this is a laughing matter do you?

I want him to serve every minute of his sentence then be sent back to where he comes from.

I tend to be a little more lenient in that regard as by all accounts the guy up until now has been a model citizen. I think the 8 years is about right and with good behaviour he could probably be out in 4-5 years. There's nothing he can do to rectify the damage he's caused, but he might still be able to improve other bad situations.

i felt that he should have gotten the maximum sentence, then deported. it was just a silly joke in relation to Justine/omar khadr/Jaskirat Singh Sidhu. my comment wasn't directed towards the victims. I meant no disrespect to them. sorry if anyone was offended. i don't have superuser status so i cant delete the posts. if the mods are reading this go ahead and delete the posts. not sure if i will continue to post.

I didn't take any offense, if it was a joke. For one I don't believe in treating a person like a murderer where there was no intent to kill. As far as Omar is concerned, I wouldn't go through the years of torture etc. he went through for $10.5 million and as I wasn't present at the original crime, I don't have a lot to say.

Granted, but isn't the onus on the guy hiring him to decide that? Does a smart employer hire unqualified people?

Who says the guy employer was smart ?

Looks like the only 'smart' things the employer knew was how to game the inspection system and

hire the cheapest unqualified labour he could

But he did far less time for his murders than this guy and this guy killed his people by accident.

I think given the guilty plee and obvious remorse a 4-5 year sentence and truck driving lifetime ban would have been appropriate sentence.

Actually Omar did about 11 years from age 15 - 26 or 27. I hear you but a 4 - 5 year sentence would likely mean he'd be released in two or three years, which might be taken as an insult to the surviving victims. I feel really sorry for him, there's many among us who have done stupider things. I'm totally against deporting him as he is less threat to other people NOW than most of our population. The old "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth" isn't very practical - just leaves people needing glasses and dentures!
