Since man has pumped seven or eight trillion of tons of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere over the last couple hundred years, it is a good bet that man is responsible.

I'm neither blind nor stupid, but I wouldn't have a clue whether we have global warming or not as parts of the globe have had cooling. For sure we have experienced polar warming over the past few years. This planet is like 2 billion years old or maybe as some believe 7,000 years old but no matter, 100 years is like the blink of an eye. You talking less than one degree.............come on, 100 years ago who knows if thermomeeter were even built that were accuate within one degree and if so were they in use at all weather stations? G.W. is a moot subject anyway, we know we are screwing up the earth just look at the decrease in the number of fish and wildlife not to mention the declining health of most humans. I'm not a great predictor but I think it's safe to say human life as we know it will be extinct in 100 years or so as man does himself in with greed and eating garbage.

JLM, you appear to know about declining biodiversity, why would you think that tampering with temperature would be innocuous? One degree is the difference between 99 and 10% mortality in trout eggs in a stream. It's the difference between a predictable food source showing up in it's regular feeding grounds and not. Which means it can be the difference between life and death for those who feed on that food source.

One degree is not an insignificant change to animals and plants that are perfectly adapted to habitats. Habitats which for a species contains thermal thresholds.

But it hasn't happened this fast (not in a long time, not in a few hundred thousand years at least) and concomitant with ecological degradation (deforestation, heavy metals, increased sediment, eutrophication, depleted oxygen, ocean acidification, and alien species invasions, to name a few).
