As for the main question, I have to agree with Scott again. I don't trust these things at all. Esp. parking garages and some bridges. A news report while back suggested that some of the major bridges round here are totally unsafe. Obviously this would be last we hear of it. No follow up story, probably cuz no one did any engineering investigations. When the big one hits, we're totally screwed.

That is a pretty "sweeping statement", although there is SOME truth to it. Sometimes freak occurences just happen, due to acts of God. Other times it's not "civil servants" but private contractors hired by the government, trying to undercut the cost of civil servants (who in some cases actually do a better job)

I wasn't talking about elected ones, I was talking about the rank and file workers. No I don't approve of EVERYTHING civil servants do, BUT to be fair some are dedicated, hard workers, while others are drones and parasites.
