Henrik Lundqvist notches his 300th career win & 49th shutout.

Broadcasters presented the Wall of Fame with great names such as Giacomin, Bathgate, Howell, Gilbert, and other assorted greats whom I have admired so much over the years.

good for 'king henrik', hes one of the best indeed.

Meanwhile as the Canuck's fortunes rose it appears that Lu had a real stinker in Tampa - let in something like 5 goals??? Not a good night for Roberto.

i watched that game, not fair to say he had a stinker, he was fine till the team went down the toilet,
and dragged him down there with him, mAny many mistakes which gave boston 3 on 1s over and over, can't
really pin all of that on the goalie.

and the fifth goal was an empty netter.

Every goalie has one of those once in awhile. I wouldn't expect Lu to be any different, he's a goaltender, not the pope! L.O.L.

i wonder out of three of us, you, mowich and myself, which one actually sat and watched the game, now two
of you agree that he had a stinker, 'false'.

Canucks host Islanders before four-game tripSunday, 03.09.2014 / 6:46 PMBrian Compton - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

ISLANDERS (24-33-9) at CANUCKS (29-27-10)

TV: MSG-PLUS, SNET-P

Last 10: New York 3-6-1; Vancouver 2-7-1

Season series: This is the second and final game between the New York Islanders and Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver earned a 5-4 overtime win Oct. 22 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Big story: The Canucks are coming off a 2-1 win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday, but Vancouver enters the game Monday four points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. New York has been out of the race for several weeks, and its inability to protect leads has it staring at a top-five pick at the 2014 NHL Draft.

Team Scope:

Islanders: It's not difficult to see why New York has taken a step back this season after qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2013 for the first time in six years. Jack Capuano's team simply can't hold a lead.

After opening their four-game road trip with a 3-2 overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets, the Islanders have blown two-goal leads in the third period the past two games, resulting in losses to the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. The loss in Edmonton came in overtime; Calgary scored three goals in 4:12 to win in regulation.

The Islanders have allowed 77 goals in the third period this season, most in the NHL. They've taken a lead into the third 20 times and have won nine of those games (9-6-5).

"I'm sure they feel like they're cursed right now,'' Capuano told Newsday on Sunday. "They have to know that the way they're working right now, it will start to turn for them. Because they're doing the right things.''

Canucks: Can Vancouver overcome this recent stretch that has seen it go 2-10-1 over the past 13 games and find its way back into a playoff spot? After beating the Flames, another win against the Islanders on Monday would keep the Canucks headed in the right direction.

But Vancouver mustered 14 shots on goal against the Flames. The Canucks know they'll need a better effort against the Islanders before they begin a four-game road trip Wednesday.

"These are tricky games against teams that are looking up at the standings," forward Chris Higgins told The Vancouver Sun on Sunday. "They are playing for fun and they're playing pretty freewheeling. So those are difficult games, and, obviously, we're not looking past anybody."

Right wing Zack Kassian will serve the second of a three-game suspension.

Who's hot: Islanders center Ryan Strome has a goal and two assists in the past four games, and forward Anders Lee has two goals and one assist in the past three. … Canucks forward Shawn Matthias has three goals and three assists in his past four games - two with Vancouver and two with the Florida Panthers.

Injury report: Islanders captain John Tavares (knee) is out for the remainder of the season. … The Canucks will be missing left wing Daniel Sedin (lower body), center Mike Santorelli (shoulder) and defenseman Andrew Alberts (concussion).

another team that has spent most of the season near the bottom of the point column, so tonight we'll
see if canucks can take care of business.

i would actually think islanders would win this one, but without 'tavares' they are definitely muchmore vulnerable.
keep your eyes on grabner, one of the worst blunders mike gillis made, and as i said some time ago,
i was mad at the time he was traded in the ballard trade, he was actually the 3rd player thrown in
as incentive for florida to give canucks ballard.
i watched him win a game for islanders the other night in overtime, they called him the 'roadrunner',
he is so fast on his feet.
when he was here vineault put him on a line with kesler and raymond, and the hockey night in canada
guys said they looked like the fastest line in hockey.

I was just pointing out to Mowich in general terms that no goal tender has a good game every time. I didn't watch the game so don't have any solid opinion! -:)

now thats better !!!!(do i sound like a wendy's commercial ?)lol. a general statement is good. seemed like you were agreeing with her because you
said his name as well, so your post along with mowich's post made it look like lui played a stinker,
and the rest of the team was never mentioned.

they all got off the hook, and in this market, people will run with that, and think of luongo as just
letting in easy goals, again, that is not an accurate view of that particular game.

Nah, I'm a fan of Lu, so I'm not likely to bad mouth him for anything short of mayhem or killing his mother-in-law. -:)

Just checking things out before the game tonight. As a Canuck fan I'm not overly impressed with the following stats.
New York Vancouver Pts J Tavares 66 D Sedin 40 G K Okposo 26 R Kesler 21 A J Tavares 42 H Sedin 31

Were those Islanders doing a bunch of cheating? -:)

tavares is a great player, hence part of team canada, but islanders had to have first overall pick to
get him, proof of a dismal season behind them that season, but he is a true team mate, gives his all,
and doesn't complain about being on a lower status team, he is a true leader and will help that team
pull themselves up out of the basement level over the next few years, too bad he is injured, i love
to watch him play.

After reading your post, a thought occurred to me - as most folks know, the Islanders are moving to Brooklyn (my old home town of 35 years). There are many NHL fans in Brooklyn but ice hockey's fan base there pales in comparison to its pro basketball fan base. Indeed, hockey is largely (though not exclusively) thought to be a suburban sport throughout much of the USA. You might recall that I mentioned several years ago on this forum how the NHL's effort to bring the sport into the USA's inner cities failed except in inner Detroit. My hope is that once the Isles move into God's Country [that's Brooklyn to you :) ] this will be the start of a tremendous growth in the sport's popularity in the inner cities. If the Isles can recapture the glory days they had under Al Arbour I sincerely believe this will spur such a growth. Let's hope it happens!

i hope it happens too, what a great area for hockey to bloom, and good healthy competition for rangers,
with enough people in a large area, so that either team will not suffer becAuse the other is close by.

i remember when the dodgers were in brooklyn, i cheered for them, my favourite team, and was sorry
when they moved away, even though they cAme closer to me, it just wasn't the same.

Tortorella's pack of (badly) trained monkeys just blew a 3 goal lead in under three minutes.

ETA-I posted too soon it's now 4-3 Islanders-Good Night Nurse!!!

now its 5-4 islanders, what a hoot, oh oh, now it is 6-4, don't blink.

how is it possible to allow 7 goals in a period, especially the last period.

i can't believe this disaster can go by without something happening, comeon .

even eddie lack let in a couple of soft ones.

after 2 periods i thought it was a poor game by the islanders, who just looked awful, but

i didn't realize, 'they had a plan' for the third.

this team is totally without a plan, or structure, i feel sorry for the
players who have had several years of stellar play on this team, they
would never have dreamed this team of theirs could play this bad.

i'm listening to john garrett, he is talking about eddie lack, and i
mentioned a couple of weeks ago, that this young goalie is being
played too much and too hard for his young career, it isn't healthy.
now, with gillis having lost both of his star goalies, first schneider,
now luongo, he has to depend on a inexperienced rookie and his
inexperienced back-up, that is too much for these guys.

I knew that getting rid of Lu was a mistake, now I'm convinced! The penalty to Jensen 200' from his net didn't help either. Can't blame Eddie for this loss!

no can't blame him, but he didn't play his best, he had some problems too. if anyone wants to blame
anyone, its a team blame which includes lack, a coaching blame, a gen. mgr. blame, all haveto share.

Yeah, Sh*t is going to hit the fan, but who is going to get it? Jensen Got it started but I doubt if he'll get too much blame. You can't blame Eddie when he's playing short handed, down two for over a minute.
