Did the other shoe drop yet? Anyone heard anything? Talloola?

no, nothing yet, but i have been thinking about this for awhile

after this season gillis and torterella will have four years left on their contracts, i think
its about 2 million per year for each of them

no point in letting either one of them go right now, not far till the end of the season, and if
aquillini has to hire a new g.m. he should take his time in the summer, hire the g.m., then the
two of them can decide on a new coach.
a new g.m. will want to hire 'his' type of coach, and not have to carry
on with torterella, or any other coach, unless he was thrilled with
the coach that is there, but the g.m. would not have been fired if
the team was doing well under the present coach, so i would think
he would be replaced as well.

BUT, as i mentioned the other day, aquillini has to decide if he wants to part with all of that money
for two people who are no longer working for him over the next four years, AND also pay a new g.m.
and coach as well.
but he also has to make sure 'the business' runs well, and they don't lose season ticket holders,
so those people have to be satisfied and comfortable with 'renewing' their tickets, and the way
the team is this season, that leaves a big question mark.

i'm sure he and his dad have had many talks about this matter, and it will be interesting over the next
few months to know what they will decide.

if he fired torterella now, his sidekick assistant coach would go with him, as they have been
together for a long time, and i can't see him staying behind after torterella is gone.

Hopefully the team will smarten up and in a few weeks we can just look back on all this as a bad dream. It would probably be a little hasty to make any big decisions based on one period of play. Hopefully just that experience will be a wake up call for all concerned.

if that decision was made now, it would not be made on 'one period' of play, if that is all there was
to be concerned about, we wouldn't even be talking about this right now, it would blow over, they
would move on, that isn't the case.
there isn't a g.m. and coach hanging around waiting to be hired, it is a
search, interviews and many discussions before they hire them, and as
we have seen with this hiring, that doesn't always work either, so
it is best to do this thoroughly over the summer, and 'if' aquillinis
want to change personnel, they can do it then, with lots of time.

It could still get straightened out by itself.

of course, the word 'if' in my post covers that. if they do nothing, they will
have been satisfied that nothing was appropriate, it is their team, their money,
they are very wealthy business men, and if they are satisfied that the season ticket
holders are going to be happy, they will do nothing.

its all about making a good profit, putting butts in the seats and
being successful.

One thing it took me almost 7 decades to learn is its often difficult to make other people change! Actually generally a waste of time.-:)

and whom are the 'other people'.

and whom are the 'other people'.

well? i tried to fit your statement into all we were talking about, it
didn't fit.

from the many many calls and e mails that came to the radio station today,
and other days, from season ticket holders, they will decide 'not' to renew,
on their own, and there will be many who did not contact the station or
the news paper.

those are the 'bottom liners', aquillini's profit makers, they are the people
he is most interested in pleasing.
if the team begins to please them, they will return, if not, they won't. simple

Just some of my mindless wanderings, Talloola. Probably doesn’t apply to this situation. I had a flash that part of what we are dealing with here is changing people’s behaviour (scoring more goals and being scored against less). I was trying to liken it to other life situations where trying to get someone to change his/her behaviour doesn’t work, like the spouse who is a heavy smoker or drinker or womanizer –
You can try everything, pleading, threatening, bribing to no avail, but then all of a sudden, they are at death’s door with a massive heart attack and bingo they quit the behaviour. Possibly Monday’s fiasco is like that heart attack and they pull resources from within to remedy the situation because they are now convinced they have to. The players are the ones who are responsible as they are the only ones who can fix the problem, J.T. and Gillis are accountable, but its not quite the same thing. So sometimes I think it’s better to “live and let live” and hope things sort themselves out. –

if you go thru all of the goals, there are two or three where lack did not play it well, can't make
excuses for him, he must share the blame with his teamates, that is fair, can't pretend those
mistakes didn't happen.
he is a rookie, he lost his composure at times, that is expected from a rookie, but he has to
share the blame.

There was a time during the old 6 team league when Toronto, who was in first or second place, were beaten by Boston, who was in last place. I think the score was 8 - 1. The Toronto team looked like a bunch of pylons. Toronto came back and won a Stanley Cup or two so I don't think we should give up on the Canucks just yet.

Jets, Canucks seek slump-busting victoryTuesday, 03.11.2014 / 4:16 PMTal Pinchevsky - NHL.com Staff Writer

CANUCKS (29-28-10) at JETS (30-28-8)

TV: TSN

Last 10: Vancouver 2-7-1; Winnipeg 4-3-3

Season series: In their third and final game, the Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets are both desperately seeking points in the Western Conference standings. The home team has taken the previous two games, with Vancouver winning 2-1 on Dec. 22 and Winnipeg 4-3 on Jan. 31.

Big story: Both teams have struggled of late and will need to turn things around to revive any hopes of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Winnipeg has lost four in a row and Vancouver has dropped five of six. Both are coming off disappointing losses, with Vancouver looking to move past one of the worst third periods in modern NHL history.

Team Scope:

Canucks: After dropping four straight and trading No. 1 goalie Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers at the NHL Trade Deadline, the Canucks appeared to overcome some of the adversity plaguing the club when they beat the Calgary Flames 2-1 on Saturday night. That turnaround continued Monday night when they took a 3-0 lead into the third period at home against the New York Islanders.

The Islanders proceeded to score seven goals in the third period, almost matching their total from their three previous games combined, to beat the Canucks 7-4. It was a late-game collapse that had Vancouver coach John Tortorella vexed.

"As a coach, this is my responsibility," Tortorella said after practice Tuesday. "I'm going to try to turn this around."

Goaltender Eddie Lack won't get much rest after allowing six goals on 14 third-period shots against the Islanders. He will be back in net for Vancouver, with recent acquisition Jacob Markstrom serving as backup.

Forward Zack Kassian will be serving the final game of a three-game suspension.

Jets: Winnipeg started 9-2-0 after replacing coach Claude Noel with Paul Maurice. That run catapulted the Jets into playoff contention, but they've struggled to maintain that pace, earning one regulation win in six games since the end of the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

They competed hard against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night but fell 3-2 in overtime on Matt Duchene's goal scored off a broken play in front of the Winnipeg net. The loss was Winnipeg's fourth in a row, their longest such streak since a five-game skid in early January that led to Noel's firing.

"A little bad luck in front of our net with the puck and it's in the back," Maurice said. "There were a lot of good things. Penalty-killing is good. We just wish it didn't have to be so good so often."

Maurice has praised his fifth-ranked penalty kill of late, but his fear the unit may be overworked is warranted. Only three teams have been shorthanded more times this season than the Jets.

Who's hot: Canucks defenseman Yannick Weber has points in his past two games. Forward Shawn Matthias has one point in three games since arriving as part of the Luongo trade, but has six points in his past five games. … Jets forward Dustin Byfuglien scored twice against Colorado and has three goals and four points in his past two games. Center Bryan Little has four points in his past four games.

Injury report: The Canucks are missing forwards Daniel Sedin (hamstring), Brad Richardson (undisclosed) and Mike Santorelli (shoulder) as well as defenseman Andrew Alberts (concussion). Defenseman Ryan Stanton (undisclosed) has missed three games but skated with the team Tuesday. … For the Jets, forwards Mark Scheifele (knee), Chris Thorburn (upper body), John Albert (upper body) and James Wright (ankle) are out, as is defenseman Grant Clitsome (back).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
canucks are lucky that 'mark scheifele' willnot be in the jets lineup tonight, he was injured in last game.

listening to mike gillis as i type. he doesn't have answers for the poor play by his team, says there is
lots of reasons, finds this past couple of months very challenging, says the team is starting its transition
to get younger, and it could take one, two or five years.
he would not answer any questions about torterella, but when he did list some of the things that have
happened to this team he mentioned 'the situation' in january, hmmm, guess who.
if he was 100% 'for' torterella at this time, he would 'not' have mentioned 'that' situation, just like he
would not speak about any one player, or zero in on any faults by people on the team, so i gathered from
the tone of 'that particular' statement, that he has had 'fallout' as a result of torterella's stupid behavior in calgary, and it is not easily forgotton. me too.
the canuck organization has for some time been a very classy one, by the owners right down to coaching, as
vineault handled himself with the media and the players, 'always' with class and maturity, now we have
this coach's behavior, and when is it going to happen again, his mouth controls him and his emotions,
has for years, and if there was a organization similar to 'alcoholics anonymous' he should be going
to the meetings, to learn where emotions belong in the lineup of one's behavior.
we can look to gillis for mistakes re: trades etc., but i know he is very particular about how this
canuck organization is viewed from around the rest of the league, and fans, and this childish tantrum
by his latest hire, has left a mark, i can see that from listening to him.

There's now a Fire Mike Gillis Facebook page.

thats cute. lui would love to see that, i imagine both of them would.

that was a fun game to watch, its winnipeg, as they play such an energetic, physical game, they force
their opponants to rise to the occAsion, and their physical play get the blood boiling of their
opponants as well.

good for burrows, 2 goals, and almost had a hat-trick

love watching winnipeg, they are one of my favourite teams, and they have some very good players,
who are excellent skaters.

hope kesler is going to be ok, didn't think the other guy should have had a penalty, i saw it as
a awkward collision, i think it was the immediate reaction of the canucks that made up the minds
of the officials.

next game in washington

Speaking of the Peverly situation has a game ever been cancelled like that in the past?

Helluva way to end your career but the guy is finished now.

I have suffered from the same medical condition all my life and had to retire from playing sports at age 31. While Rich Peverley is out for the rest of the season, this does not necessarily mean the end of his career. Medical science now has implants that stabilize the heartbeat and it appears that he may resume his career next season.

I wish him the best.

i might be mistaken, but i think they allready did one procedure a while back.

this time they are going to do another procedure, they haven't said if he will
ever play again, but i would think he will, unless something else goes wrong.

yes, i wish him well too.

Two pieces of bad news tonight, Boston won another game and Edmonton took an even worse beating than the Canucks' recent shellacking!

i watched the edmonton game, it was a very good game till the third period, then st louis turned up
the burners, and left oilers in the dust. i was surprised that oilers kept pace with them for two
periods, after all st. louis is the top team in the nhl, not anything like the islanders, so i can't
compare the two games at all.
the game also got very rough, and chippy for both teams.

boston is a very very good team, so it you are waiting around for them to lose, you'll be doing lots
of waiting. iginla has 22 goals now, and is having a very good season, boston is a perfect team for
him, pure team play, with an excellent coach, and iginla fits right into that format, he has always
been 'all team', so boston is the place for him.
