Yep, they seem to be getting back on track and it was only a week ago they were talking nonsense about firing the coach. Every team has bad spells.

That's right they do, a team can't go all through the season in top form, or doing
their worst, they will have down times, injuries cause that, goalie injury hurt
us, and now that he is back he can't find his form, but we can show some support
for him by winning without him playing in top form, he will come around.
Sami Salo's injury hurt us, he is a great defenceman, and they need him, just
hope he has stopped all of those injuries now.
Gillis explained that their problems were not 'coaching' problems, but the media
and fans push the panic button, they all want something done 'NOW', sane
minds seem to go out the door.

That line of Sundin, Demetra, and Kesler, combined for seven or eight points last night. That line has provided a large percentage of the Canuck's scoring in the last few games. Edler and Biaksa are another honourable mentions because they add to the scoring as well. We know who the first line is. I think it would be a good idea to identify the second and third lines as well. Nothing improves a line like lots of playing time together.

I didn't see the game. I enjoyed clips of Brian Burke being his usual self. His level of self-importance is pretty high. They will need to expand his viewing box just to fit his head.

It can be like putting pieces of a puzzle together, not sure if the pieces fit, but
worth a try, it doesn't take long to know that it 'doesn't' fit too.
If they could only find a player to play with the sedins, it has to someone who
'they' will respect as a goal scorer, so they will 'think' to pass him the puck
once in awhile, they miss so many scoring chances it gets irritating, they are
very talented but I do believe they love passing to each other more than they
like scoring a goal.;-)
They have fed Pyatt the puck on many occasions, but he misses his chances 99%
of the time, they need a sniper type.

I guess part of my point is that the season is getting on and the lines should be pretty well set by now......At least to the second line. I know that with penalties and injuries, it makes it difficult but as you say, just pick someone to play with the Sedins....I thought Pyat had that job but he has fallen out of favour or something. I think they have a number of players who could skat with the Sedins. I'm really surprised it took so long to settle on Sundin, Kesler, and Demetra. They played together a month ago and there seemed to be some chemistry but I guess Sundin was not really ready yet

Demitra got hurt after the first game they played together, I think he missed
about 12 games.

It takes a while to balance the lines, now the sedins can be the second line,
vineault couldn't do that before, since we had the 'west coast express', but
that line went down the toilet.
If Raymond had of stayed on his game, he wouldn't have been a good one for
the sedins, but his game dissapeared some time ago, he is just getting spotty
ice time now, but hopefully he will come out of it, and start playing better
again, he has so much potential, but somewhere along the way he got lost.
It will come back.
They tried bernier, but he is a fumble bum, not a finesse player, lots of speed,
lots of heart, not too much between the ears, and he seems to be doing better
on the third line, he does have nhl desire and skating.
Hannson didn't do anything on the sedin line, just doesn't think the same as
them. In my opinion they need someone better than they are, who can put
the puck in the net from anywhere out and around the net.
I don't think pyatt is an nhl player, he shows some potential in some games,
but there are better than him in Manitoba I'm sure.
I'm not concerned about them now that the sundin line seems to be coming
together, they are fine.
It's just 'tweaking' now, and the trade dealine is mar 4, so things will begin
to happen around the league soon, so maybe gillis can swing a deal of some
sort.
As long as they stay healthy, they will be fine, but all teams are in that
position, as injuries upset everything.

Canucks coyotes tonight, coyotes beat dallas last night 1-0, it is their first win
in about 9 games or so, they are struggling, but like all teams can beat anyone
on any given night.
They are very very young, will have lots of energy and speed, and a good
goalie, although similar to luongo he has been rather inconsistent of late.
I really notice a new energy level in all games now, trade deadline approaching
and teams are beginning to feel that playoff 'fever', and in our conference there
are many teams who are in one day and out the next, including the canucks.

GO CANUCKS GO

The Canadians have gone down the toilet lately, losing badly, and last night
edmonton beat them 7-2 I think it was, the are floundering right now, look
quite a bit like canucks looked in their 'down' time, nothing is going right
for them. We play them at home on Sunday then we are back on the road
again.

Canucks pulled off a third period surge to come from behind and win this game 4-3
We missed lots of scoring chances throughout the game, not a great two periods,
not a lot of flow, but we took advantage of a tired team in the third, as they
played last night, and the canucks pumped up the intensity and speed, and
definitely took over in the third. So, good for them, they are on the road, so
however you win, it's just important to win.
The third line with wellwood and company played well, and he especially had his
best game in a long while, did him good to spend a little time in the press box,
watching, makes them very hungry to play and prove themselves again, he could
have had 2 goals, great save on the first one, and he hit the post on the second
one, so a bit of bad luck.
I like Burrows with the twins, he had a good game.
We will be the tired team in the third tomorrow as we play Dallas, and they
are playing very well of late, so it will be a hard game to win, we'll see.
At the moment, and for today, we are alone in 6th place.

That was great, I'd written them off in the first period.

We are Canada's Team, aren't we?! Think about it, who else really has a squad currently capable of capturing the precious. If it ever happens, this province is gonna go crazy!

You ever seen American teams win, and the fans aren't just standing and clapping, pleasantly amused that their team just won the cup.

Uh... It would be like that here at the Garage! People would be climbing the rafters, crying in the beautiful moment, and probably destroying their vocal chords. Not to mention what IS going to happen when the fans spill into the street...

... I don't think the VPD are Canuck fans!

A scary thought indeed. Yes I can imagine this city/province if the canucks
(or I should say 'when') the canucks win the stanley cup. They definitely are
making all of us wait, but 'next' year is always right around the corner, every
year.
Let's see I'm 70 now, they have been in the league for 38 years, they better
not wait another 38 or, well, you know:-|
I don't think they have it in them this year, but I think they have turned the
corner and with the new management, it's not far away.
Gillis has it right when he says he will build this team from 'within', and he
has a few good young ones allready, in the AHL./juniors.

Rick Ball (team 1040) had a contest last year, a couple of his friends showed up
at the station and they had their heads measured, Rick Ball won, with the
biggest head, Brian Burke wasn't there, but if he was there, he would have
won, hands down, and the biggest ego to match, and he's a big bore to go
along with it.
I'm glad he's now in the east, and especially in the 'center of the universe',
he fits right in there.

The Canuck's second line seems to be settled for the time being, It looks like Burrows is getting the nod to play with the twins. On a positive note, except for Demetra's goal, the big line was held off the scoreboard but the Sedins and Salo and a few others picked up the slack. Other teams can no longer just put their best checking line out against Sundin, Kesler, and Demetra. The Canucks have other lines that bite as well and other teams are blowing leads in the latter periods like Phoenix did last night, and St. Louis did a couple nights ago. If Gillis is looking at finding players to fill out the team, I hope he finds a couple of good defensemen who can defend, but also join the rush occasionally

I agree Juan, a good puck moving defenceman, and one who can run the powerplay,
is just what we need, but another very good scoring forward wouldn't hurt
either, because Burrows might not stay on that line, and I think it depends
what happens to the third line, it looked good last night, hope it stays that
way, I think wellwood will play good if the team is going good, but when the
team is struggling like they were before he is useless in a defensive role.

Tonight will be tough, if they win tonight it will be their best win of the three,
cause dallas is playing better than the other two, even though phoenix beat
them 1-0 the other night, and we might be unable to maintain enough energy
throughout three periods, hope I'm wrong.

Canucks played well, it was a good game, just didn't win. Both teams hit posts more than once,
and when time ran out dallas was ahead by one.
Sundin played with the flu, so he didn't make an impact, but supported his line,
and did the best he could under the conditions.
Wellwood had another strong game, guess raymond will continue sitting in the
press box for awhile.
LaBarbera played a very strong game in goal.

Back home now, and hosting Montreal on Sunday.

Hey! I can't help it if I am one of the few Leaf fans here!

At least I don't bash Vancouver...I save that for Montreal and Ottawa(who are getting smoked 3-0 in the first period as I type this;-):p).

This thread, I feel, has become the NHL(heck, the HOCKEY) thread rather than just a thread about the Canucks. Which is cool, since the other thread hasn't been touched since December. I will write any hockey musings in this thread from now on.

Unless talloola tells me to stop, that is.

A record-setting milestone happened tonight. Mike Green, a defenseman from Washington, just scored a goal in his 8th straight game. This breaks the modern NHL record, and I believe closes the gap on the all-time record(11 straight games). This kid is amazing! He has 22 goals, 28 assists, and is +26!

To put this into perspective, he has more goals than Zetterberg(and I believe Green missed between 8-12 games due to a shoulder injury)! There are also a lot of "A" type scorers who have less goals than he does. Amazing. He could be a future Pronger type of player(even better, who know?).
