How about them Canucks!

A record-setting milestone happened tonight. Mike Green, a defenseman from Washington, just scored a goal in his 8th straight game. This breaks the modern NHL record, and I believe closes the gap on the all-time record(11 straight games). This kid is amazing! He has 22 goals, 28 assists, and is +26!

To put this into perspective, he has more goals than Zetterberg(and I believe Green missed between 8-12 games due to a shoulder injury)! There are also a lot of "A" type scorers who have less goals than he does. Amazing. He could be a future Pronger type of player(even better, who know?).

Yes, I saw the goal, so exciting, and he will be better than pronger for sure.
What an exciting player, and that washington team is coming so we better all
move on over, or figure out how to stay abreast of them.

You write all the hockey articles and info you want on this thread, if it wasn't
for you and a couple of others, I would be talking to myself all the time.
I love it.

What's going on with Jason Blake all of a sudden, he is on fire.
I wonder what Burkie has up his sleeve for the trade deadline, do you
think Kaberle will be gone?

Thanks. I will try and contribute more to this thread.

I think that Jason Blake is 100% healthy, which is the main difference between this year and last year. He wasn't fully recovered then, and it showed in his play. Burke may trade him as he will fetch something half-decent in value.

Kaberle is gone, of that I have no doubt. I think his stats would get better if he was on a better team. When the entire defensive core is sub-par(or pretty close), it will drag down anyone in it.

I also think that Antropov is gone, one way or another. Whether by trade or by leaving for another team next season, there is no way he will be a Leaf next year.

Toskala may get traded, but I don't there is a large market for him right now as he lets in way too many soft goals. That may be attributed to his lack of confidence with the defense in front of him, but he gets paid big money for the job and he should be up to the task.

I heard a rumour that the Sedin twins may be in the Leaf's future. I cannot remember the site I saw that.

I'm sure Burke would snatch them up if he could swing a deal, but we have no interest in anyone from toronto, unless of course it included first round draft picks for a few years.
Sedins were his baby when he drafted them, they are good players, but never
have proven anything in playoffs or after trade deadline, they need to do that,
and Gillis is taking his sweer time on negotiating a new contract for them,
they are free agents at the end of this season, so trade deadline looks
interesting time for them to either be gone or be signed.
I woule like them to stay, but 'only' as second line players, not first, we need
something stronger and tougher on the first line.

Canucks host the habs tonight at 7, hope montreal wait one more
game before coming out of their slump, we need this one badly,
and the next one, and the -------------------- well, you know.
They are doing some kind of tribute to the habs 100 anniversay, hope
it doesn't take too long.

Vancouver beat Montreal tonight 4-2. Montreal is on a free-fall right now.

Green had his record-setting goal scoring streak stopped at 8 games. He was held without a point, but Ovechkin picked up the slack with yet another hat-trick. He now has 41 goals for the year.

Ilya Kovalchuk also had a hat-trick tonight, and an assist to go along with it.

Therrien was fired as head coach of Pittsburgh. With the talent they have on that team, there is NO excuse for their record. I feel it may be too late to help them this season, but you never know. They could turn it around, but will probably get smoked in the playoffs if they make it. There are too many good teams this year(Boston, Philadelphia, San Jose, Calgary, Detroit, Washington, Chicago), and there are also teams that could play tough in the playoffs(Vancouver, Anaheim, Dallas, possibly even Buffalo). Not a good year to falter if you are Pittsburgh.

OK, I'll start breathing again, no, just kidding, canucks were in control throughout
the game, even though score was close till later on.
Sedin,Sedin,Burrows, were 1st 2nd and 3rd stars, and well deserved.
Climbed from 9th to 5th for today, we'll see what everybody else does tomorrow,
while canucks rest, and go from there, we're in Calgary on Tuesday, 'yikes', can't
wait, canucks were penalty free tonight, that's amazing, um, sure don't expect
that on Tuesday, there will probably be a fight right after the puck drops in the
first.;-)
score was 4-2

They are still half a move away from even qualifying for the playoffs - there are many better teams than yours homer.

May I ask why you felt it necessary to insult her? She created this thread, and it IS called 'How about them Canucks!". Nice.

in the playoffs one day, out the next, now that the canucks are out of their
awful slump, (and by the way, all the points we gave up during the slump still
kept us in the hunt, thanks to the large cushion we had, from our early very
good play), no one is planning the parade, maybe next year, but
yes, playoffs are right there for canucks to make, just as easy as many teams who are in our conference.
I have eyes wide open.
Isn't it one and the same for a fan to be a homer, when it's their home team?!!!!

Stupid homer rant - unsupported by performance. This is a national board, why do we need homer nonsense about the Canucks? Let;'s get pumped about the Canadiens, or the Oilers, or the Bruins...who needs tiresome homer crap?

Don't like it buddy, don't read it, go to the NHL thread, no canuck news there.
This is the canuck thread.
What are you doing here anyway.
Get ouda here, or I'll get hordichuk after you.

Knock it off. It's her thread, she can talk about the Canucks however much she wants. If you don't like it, post in the other NHL thread.

No more insults.

Well at least cheer for a team that can make it to the playoffs.

Underachiever Canucks are the same as Maple Laffs

And become a bandwagon jumper? Yeah, that's much better than being a fan of a team whether or not they win.

I am a Toronto fan, but I can also like other teams. No crime in that, and I don't go bashing other members over which team they root for.

I'll cheer for 'my' team, not yours, not the leafs, or my old team before the
canucks, which was the habs.
I'm not a fan who jumps to so called winners, I'm a hockey fan, who loves hockey, and I understand hockey, and I take the bad with the good.
I'm not a bandwagon jumper on or jumper off.
what are you

My condolences.

What can I say? The main problem is their ownership(or lack thereof). A teacher's union? Yeah, they sure care about winning. All they care about is money. Almost as bad as the Ballard years.8O

Do you think the toronto fans will jeer or cheer mats sundin next week, after all
the loyal years of good hockey he gave them, I would hope that they will remember that when he steps on the ice.

Do you think a second team in Toronto would make a difference? I've heard people say that that's probably the only thing that would shake them up...without getting a new owner.

Either that, or perhaps getting a team in Hamilton(Phoenix?) would shake things up. The status quo is stagnant, and it shows on the ice as well as in the front office.

I think new teams 'anywhere' in canada would be good, (within reason), and it makes sense to put another team in that area, the people are there, and the money.
I also want to see a team in Seattle.
Didn't toronto whine and sniffle when suggestions were made to move a team into
hamilton, seems they wanted it all for 'themselves', at least that was the news
on our media, not that I believe anything they say most of the time.

I think there will be a mixture of both. It depends on how badly he burns the Leafs that game.;-)

I would imagine it would be harsher if this had happened to Montreal rather than Toronto, as the fans there don't take kindly to players leaving for other teams.8O

yeah, the montreal fans are 'vicious', even against their own team, they can turn
on them in minutes.
