Vancouver vs Calgary tonight. Boy, that has the potential to be a great game! Vancouver is playing better recently and Calgary isn't as dominant lately as the were earlier in the year(January was much better to them than February has been).

Pittsburgh lost to the Islanders in a shootout last night(3-2). Man, what is with that team? I think losing Hossa has hurt them more than was originally thought.8O

The Rangers could only score one measly goal last night, and lost 2-1. Boy, with the start they had to the season I thought they would be a good team this year, but they have fallen mightily!

As much as it pains for me to say this, Ottawa is playing much better right now. They have won 5 in a row. I don't think this will last, as there is too much baggage on that team. I have a feeling that once a losing streak starts for them, they will fall apart.

Great game coming up tonight in Calgary. In my opinion calgary 'at this moment in
time' are the toughest team in the western conference, including detroit and san jose. It will be a good test for canucks, to see if we can keep pace with them.
Kiprisoff is playing at the top of his game, so luongo will have to as well tonight.
Salo has slight hamm string injury, not sure if he will be playing tonight, no surprise
we all expected it sooner than later.
Cammaleri is their top sniper, and iginla is going good too, and bertuzzi is having
a good year as well.
Game time should be 6p.m. I think.
Then we will be going to Ottawa, and their game has come back now, with the
new coach, I think they have four wins in a row, so don't think they will be easy
to beat, cause they seem to have renewed energy and are playing well.

Right now it is 1-1 after the first period. Iginla(finally!) scored a goal and then Kesler scored a short-handed goal to tie it up(with only 16 seconds left in the period!). It looks like it is going to be a good game.

Kovalev(the All-Star:roll:) has been given a couple of days off by Bob Gainey. Bob said it was for Kovalev to rest, but I think it is either for an upcoming trade or they are showing how displeased they are with his apathetic play this year.

Yeah, I have a feeling Kovalev isn't going to be in montreal much longer, and
good for gainey to do that, kovalev has looked very lazy and indifferent for
a while now, something he has been guilty of in the past too.

Too bad Burrows didn't let that puck go at the blue line, as it would have been
'out', turns out it ended up eventually in our net. Oh well, now it's a one
period game, anything could happen, Calgary is hard to contain, but canucks
are doing OK.

Hey, good news, canucks won in a shoot out, dimitra was the only one to score,
in the shootout,
luongo stoned, cammallari, iginla, and bertuzzi, who hit the post.
Very nice victory, we are now in 5th place in our conference, but edmonton are
still playing, and trailing san jose 4-2, so things not looking good for edmonton
tonight.
Ryan Kesler scored two goals, and bieksa scored with less than a minute to go in regulation, tie it at 3.
good win in calgary, so now they off to ottawa for a thursday game.

I was pretty happy about that talloola, Montreal and Calgary in one week! I was a little ticked the other day to see a poster on here from Saskatchewan making disparaging remarks. I'm going to talk to the moderator about getting such posters banned from this site....................:lol::lol:

They've got the subjec of 'mats sundin' on team 1040 right now, and they have
talked to a couple of writers from toronto, one wants everyone to boo him real
loud and the other think the fans should give him a standing ovation in thanks
for his years of loyalty and good play.
I wonder how it will be, some are mad at hime for not waiving his no trade contract, so the leafs could bring in top young players and a first rounder.
I know sundin didn't want to be a rental player, didn't want to go somewhere
just to win the cup with a team that wasn't really his.
They are accusing him of being dishonest with them, but in reality I think that
when the dust settled he really 'just' didn't know what he wanted to do.
What do you think.

With his personal fan club in tow for the next three games, you can bet Alex Burrows will have a little bit of extra motivation when he and his teammates kick off the first of three games in Eastern Canada tonight in Ottawa. The 27-year old, who will also have family and friends in the stands for the upcoming games in Toronto and Montreal, has already given all his fans across Canucks Nation plenty to cheer about this season. The 6’1”, 190 lbs. winger is on pace for yet another career-season having recently set a new single-season career-high in goals with 13 and now sitting just three points shy of matching his career-high in points of 31. The former Baton Rouge Kingfish comes into tonight’s contest with points in two straight games (0-3-3) and will be looking to extend his streak to a season-high three games.
The Pointe-Claire, Quebec, who had a season-high eight shots against Calgary on Tuesday, will be hoping to find the scoresheet against the Senators for the first time this season and in his career. The Senators are the lone Eastern Canadian team that Burrows has never managed to record a point against. In two career games versus Ottawa, Burrows has four shots and a plus-one rating.

Canucks' salary total for 2008/2009 = $48,144,999. Completely irrelevant.

There has always been a large number of homeless in Vancouver. The number is usually greater in the Winter when a lot of them move out from Alberta and points east.

Average salary for general practitioner in B.C., $137700 ... Average salary

Lots ot students don't have any debt. Both my son and my daughter bought all their own books. We paid their tuition and they stayed at home. Both had part time jobs all the way through college. My son paid for a good part of his graduate work and there was some scholarship money. It is certainly not necessary to run up a $35,000.00 debt. There are co-op programs and bursaries that almost nobody applies for.
BTW, the average student debt for those who have a debt is more like $27,000.00

None of this has to do with professional sports.
The salaries of sports figures certainly DOES have to do with sports and if I make references to iinequalities concerning their salaries, that's freakin tough. Don't read it if you don't like it.
Concerning student debt, you are right there are ways to reduce it, but they still have large debts that take years to pay off. And the debt load has been reduced since the Glibs arranged to have it climb so high.
And yes, that was the figure for the average family physician. My point was that this reflects more importance upon people watching other people play a game than upon people's responsibility for their personal health. IT IS FOOLISH.

One is government run, the other is free enterprise, and saying this, I am not
agreeing with the high salaries, as it is foolish, just as it is for entertainers
to make what they make, but it is in the same ball park, and as long as people
flock to watch any of them, the demand is there, so is the money for the
performer, be it singer, dancer, comedian, hockey player, ball player, etc.
It has nothing to do with 'liking' sports or 'not', and nothing to do with the
salary of a doctor, or the difficulties of a student, or a homeless person.
It happens to be very good for my health to watch hockey and many other
sports as well, it enhances my life, I don't just sit there and watch, I understand
the concept of each game, know the players, and appreciate what they do and
how 'difficult' it is, so, as in many aspects of life, 'to each his own'.

hehe I understand the concept of why they are extremely overpaid, Tall. I just think it is foolish.

I guess what you think is foolish, is the large contracts and salaries and ticket
prices, and, the little help for the homeless and students, and that is impossible
to deal with, many homeless are there because of their own laziness, and it
doesn't matter how much help is givlen them, they will 'take take take,
(opposite applies to sports figures, as they have put years and years of hard work and practice and drive, for success), but the student problem is more serious as
education should be easier accessible for those who want to put the same amount of study and hard work as those sports figures, and it isn't, so the government needs to work on that one.
I am also aware of students who have received a good education as a result of
loans over the years, which have never been paid back, and they have found
ways around that system, not right either, and some of these ex students have
never worked hard to improve their position and have never used that education positively, they have just 'taken' from the government and never given back.

I was answering your post about the homeless, doctor's salaries, and student debt, none of which have anything to do with professional athlete's salaries. The top athletes in just about any sport can command huge salaries but they are no different from film stars, or tv personalities who can get a million dollars an episode on regular television. As far as student debt is concerned, it depends on the student. A good number, probably a majority of students work their way through college with help from their parents. Doctors are paid what the going rate is for the hours they work. Would they do better work if we paid them each a million a year? Somehow I doubt it.

Vancouver beat Ottawa 5-2 tonight. Henrick got 1G & 3A and his brother got 1G &1A. It was a low-shooting game(as are all of Ottawa's recently), unlike the previous Vancouver game. I think Ottawa(especially with losing Alfredsson for a few games) is going to go on another lengthy tail-spin. They have now lost two in a row.

Toronto lost to Columbus in the shootout. Pogge did not look great(according to the scoresheet, as I was not able to watch the game), which has seemed to be the case all year. I think our goaltending situation is dire indeed.

It seems that Montreal was the tonic that Pittsburgh needed to end their losing streak. The Penguins won 5-4.

It seems Guy Lafleur spoke out against the Canadiens today, stating that they treated the Kovalev situation poorly. Two things. 1. It is none of his business. 2. He should worry more about his upcoming court case.

Canucks looked very good tonight, and luongo was excellent, even though he
didn't have a huge number of shots, some of the saves were very difficult, and
he was solid.

I sure don't like the way burke is shooting off his big mouth again, he likes to
embarrass his players through the media, and plays it up big, but if any player
every states any sort of answer to those remarks he makes, he blasts them as
though the player has no right to stand up for themselves, eg. when umberger
played for the manitoba moose and was negotiating for a little more money,
burke made snitty remarks about him, but it came back in his face, as umberger
made a statement that he would never play for burke/vancouver, and as a result
we lost that big forward with talent we were so badly in need of.

Yeah, which team is struggling the most, maybe pittsburg will do a little better
now with gonchar back.

Yeah, I heard that story, and yes, he has more important personal problems
he needs to take care of, than trying to second guess bob gainey.
This is my guess re: kovalev/gainey, I think he explained to kovalev behind
closed doors, that he isn't happy with the 'whole' team, as well as kovalev
himself, and he is going to start, by keeping kovalev off the ice for a couple
of games, and see if it shakes up the whole team, maybe I'm wrong, we'll see.

Gonchar has been back 3 games and he already has a goal and an assist. That makes Whitney very tantalizing trade-bait for teams, so Pittsburgh may get some much-needed scoring punch before it's too late.

The Canadiens as a whole are playing poorly, so I don't think the Kovalev experiment worked. I think he may come back and play inspired hockey for a few games but will likely fall back into his slump after that.

Gainey had to do 'something', so if this doesn't work, the trade deadline is
march 4, and he can go in a different direction.

That's hillarious, he almost retired last year, took the summer to think about
it, then decided to continue on.
He is a good guy, a canuck to the limit, he is overkill on the rah rah stuff, but
he is tough on them when they aren't performing.
'Bingo bango bongo, his name is roberto luongo', that is his baby, and it is so
tacky and dumb, but laughable at the same time.
I wonder who will replace him, as the color guys are an important part of the
play by play. I can't think of anyone right now, and it sure won't be me.
