I wonder if anyone's seen an image of Christ after a good poo.
Food for thought.

Sadly, people sometimes look for physical manifestation when the reality is that Jesus wouldn't reveal himself this way. If you want to be convinced one day like Dex does, then listen to the testimonies of people who have been healed of afflictions by Jesus. That's how he reveals himself, and he does it everyday.

OMG! Are you saying the image of Jesus in the grilled cheese sandwich is a fake? Holy Crap! I don't know if I can go on.8O

People heal themselves. Since most don't believe they can, they look for intermediaries to do it for them, like doctors, alternative healers or Jesus. But in the end we can only heal ourselves, just the same as we make ourselves sick. Faith can heal but it really doesn't matter what it is you think you have faith in. Faith in oneself is the only true faith.

So, a kind of placebo effect, our wishful thinking causes actual physical change and healing? Does medical science back this up in any way?

In contrast to the notion that people heal themselves, people's testimonies about healing from Jesus can have convincing proof that an affliction did exist, usually pics or medical records. This in conjunction with the healed person right in front of you, telling you how they believed Jesus heals, leaves no doubt.

Faith can heal but it really does matter what it is you have faith in. Faith in Jesus Christ is the only true faith.

I'd be more inclined to call it a "self fulfilling prophecy"

The placebo effect is well documented. I have seen people healed by faith healers, native medicine men and women, Wicca practitioners, psychic surgeons, doctors, Acupuncturists, naturpaths and I have also seen people heal themselves. In fact I have been healed by most of the above.

When I had my two heart attacks in 96 I was told I would not live another month without triple bipass. I walked out of St. Paul's and caught a bus back to Nelson and went about healing myself. Proof is in the pudding. I am still here and I do not believe in the bible or Jesus.

I am a christian Alley so I am not here to knock what you say. However. My doctor (medical science?) told me years ago that one can actually wish a wart away. We were talking about warts so that's why warts were the topic. What he stated was that if you really really want it to happen and you believe strongly enough, you can kick in your immune system and it will "heal" the wart. As a christian, I would like to have enough faith that Jesus/God would heal my ills. However. My daughter-in-law's Mother was one of the strongest believers in her faith that I have known. Cancer still killed her. No matter how hard she prayed and no matter how hard everyone prayed, and no matter how strong she was (and she was strong), in the end she still died the same death that everyone dies of lung cancer. So, while I believe that certain things are healed through a positive attitude and a refusal to give in, many many things simply are not and it has nothing to do with God and /or faith. None of us gets out alive.

So basically you don't believe that Jesus heals, which begs the questions since you are a believer: If Jesus healed while on earth, why wouldn't he heal today? What is known for sure is that God can do no wrong. The fact that your daughter-in-law's mother was not healed although she believed, doesn't mean that God wronged her. Did she have sin she wouldn't repent, even if the Lord was convicting her and asking her to do so? Was she not forgiving someone from her past? Things like this prevent healing. As for the wart thing, I'm very skeptical.

Unfortunately my friend, testimony is worth almost nothing as evidence, simply because there are so lamentably many ways we can fool ourselves into believing things that we want to be true.

Right, because you assume God doesn't exist. Because you assume, you need to make an excuse, instead of just plainly listening to the person's testimony. People will tell you who healed them.

WRONG, I don't assume anything about God, I simply don't know but I do know when I make up my mind I'm going to get better I generally do. I'm sure there is a higher power, call it God, Mother Nature, Allah, whatever you want, but it makes up its own mind what to do, I don't think it responds to prayer too much. The supreme being concentrates more on trends than the whims of the individual. But the individual can do a lot for himself.

Alley,
In the Last Whole Earth Catalogue there was an article about a guy who claimed to get rid of Planters Warts with VooDoo and a Swiss Army Knife. He said he would dig at them relentlessly with the knife while cursing their existence. Eventually they went away and he firmly believed that it was because of VooDoo. He had faith in VooDoo.

In a town where I lived for awhile as a kid there was an old English eccentric who used to buy warts, he bought one off my brother and be damned if the damned thing didn't disappear within two or three days. I don't think he even touched the wart.
