Health care in decline as Canadians begin to look elsewhere

Dental and medical aren't one in the same.

Actually they are, Petros. Abscessed teeth can lead to heart failure. A lot of cancer especially of the mouth, tongue and gums is detected by dentists. It's all tied together! The wife of a guy I worked with had severe gum cancer before it was detected by the dentist, it was horribly disfiguring- she lasted about 8 or 9 years.

Nope. Dental is dental. If you bite the steering wheel in a car crash and end up in ER they'll call a dentist.

If one has a serious problem there is little waiting time.
I know this to be true I had the onset of a serious problem
needed an operation four years ago and withing a month
I was taken care of. Superficial stuff yup there is a wait list
for serious problems no problem

Health care plans are usually : Medical / Dental :

Usually offered as separate options.

Wise to have both, except dental costs more, and a lot of people don't get it as they can't afford it.

Wait till they need a bunch of dental work..........OY !
Mortgage the ranch Molly..........sell the cows..........
Put sister on the corner.
Dentist needs a new set of golf clubs.8O

I've found through experience that dental plans don't save you any money- might even cost you a tad more than if you just paid the bill yourself. What they accomplish is they spread out the payments, so generally you are not getting hit with a big bill all at once.
Now I'm going to do a little research into the meaning of "medical". :)

Northern Ontario,
I don't know about now but years ago for some disease of the gums, that I can't recall the name, I had to have all my teeth pulled in the hospital and dentures put in.
The only thing I had to pay was the dentures themselves, the procedure an dentist fee was paid for by ohip or whatever it was called then
Side note....The sore back I had had for years disappeared completely......

Check the article.

I'm pretty sure it mentions which medical procedures are being sought after.

From the article.........

Number of Canadian patients who travelled internationally to receive non-emergency medical treatment:

Uuuh, didn't anyone else notice the study was commissioned and undertaken by the Fraser Institute?

Helllooooo; Koch brothers and other pubnutz are flailing away at this moment trying to put a stick into the spokes of the ACA wheel below us and of course it would benefit them mightily to have the single most apparent comparator used, discredited at this time wouldn't it?

Hello Mr Fraser; we just put a cheque in the mail for another 4.3 million and would really be appreciative if you'd pattern a study to highlight the failings of Canada's health system in such a way that it would be a finger pointing, wavy paper thingy for RWNJ's to use in the house down here when we're trying to dismantle O'care, Okie-dokie? Another cheque will follow shortly.

It still represents far less than 1% of population deliberately travelling ANYWHERE else for healthcare of ANY kind and does nothing to discern between those who piggy-back a bone spur removal with a vacation to Thailand and those going to Pittsburgh for an MRI being paid to do so by OHIP.

Get a grip.

Which would still be too few resources for too many to qualify as acceptable.

The problem is more with what people now expect from their free medical system. When the system was devised heart transplants were novel, CAT and MRI was science fiction. It was intended to provide the citizens with basic medical care, not sex changes because of hurt feelings.

I always have said; "I think Canada needs to adopt a co-pay for the usage." Co-pay or usage fee, what ever you want to call it..

$10 to $25 per doctor visit;
$25 to $50 for urgent care;
$50 to $100 for a Hospital visit.

It will stop people from going to the hospital for stupid colds or hang nails, or push people to make an appointment with their doctor, rather than a convenience run to the hospital because they don't want to wait.

Welfare bums can be put in the system to get this waived 'once.'

Because we don't cover dental which is self managed.

Brush three times a day, floss and don't smoke crack or meth.

Yep, things are getting a little (a lot) beyond the pale! If a person's health does not depend on a procedure, it shouldn't be covered and I'm not talking about sh*t that's inside their head! :)

Northern Ontario,
Maybe pyorrhea or gingivitis! Both are lovely:)

I think it was the first one....When I went to see the dentist a month later and I told him about my sore back that I would have every morning until I had several coffees and ate he said that the pyorrhea was probably poisoning my kidneys until I would flush them out with plenty of liquids every day......

I think that should convince Pete that dental is tied to medical!
