Heavy Monsoon Causing Extreme Flooding In South Asia Has Killed 1,200 People So Far

With much of the world’s media focusing on the historic floods currently washing through Texas and the American South, little attention has been given to the even more deadly monsoon rains that have been washing over South Asia at exactly the same time.
Currently India, Nepal, and Bangladesh are being hit by the most extreme floods seen in the region for more than a decade. The huge amount of water being dumped on the region has exacted a deadly toll, with 1,200 people known to have died so far, while over 40 million have been displaced. The damage done to the infrastructure and agricultural lands is also expected to impact South Asia long after the flood waters have receded.
The flooding has been caused by a particularly heavy monsoon that has so far dumped an estimated 30 quadrillion liters of water on Bangladesh alone. Compare this to the 86 trillion liters that has so far fallen on Houston. This has not only led to the obviously rising waters, but also fatal landslides in Nepal, destruction of entire villages in Bangladesh, and buildings collapsing in India. All of these situations have led to the heavy loss of life that has been seen so far.
With a third of Bangladesh already under water, it doesn’t look like things are going to get better anytime soon. Not only is the monsoon season expected to last this year until the end of September, but even when the flood waters drain away, the challenges will remain huge.

Many people in the time of distress resort to God Most Gracious and pray Him to save and help them .. this has been good to some extent in some shelters of Texas evacuees .. so not all people are like some atheists here faraway from the catastrophe and they blaspheme and revile God Almighty in spite of this difficult situation.
https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2017/august/songs-of-praise-fill-the-air-in-houston-shelters

Be sure that when they will be in a situation like this or worse than this, they will despair and lose their mockery.

Like Pharaoh who till the last hour had been a blasphemer, but in the last moment while he was drowning: he said: Now I have believed in the God of Moses and Aaron.

As usual you miss the point. They are brown skin people so nobody give a shit.

Ah yes there is the problem:
Monsoons fall on everyone regardless of color and political affliction[sic], and are the height of the communist ideal...

That's a problem today?

HOUSTON — A pair of Oscar winners, Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio, are leading the way in stars’ donations to relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana, but they’re not alone.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has donated $1 million to the newly established United Way Harvey Recovery Fund which will go toward short and long term relief and recovery efforts.
United Way Worldwide said Wednesday that the national fund will distribute 100 per cent of donations to recovery efforts for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation,” said United Way Worldwide President and CEO Brian Gallagher in a statement. “Responding to Hurricane Harvey requires the best of all of us — and that’s what this gift represents.”
United Way is the world’s largest privately-funded non-profit and anticipates Harvey recovery efforts will take several years.
The $1 million from DiCaprio’s foundation represents the inaugural donation to the fund. It is the latest disaster relief support from the Oscar-winner’s namesake foundation. DiCaprio and his foundation have previously donated to recovery efforts following the 2004 tsunami, the Haiti earthquake and Hurricane Sandy.
“We hope others will step up and support the United Way and other organizations,” foundation CEO Terry Tamminen said in the press release.
Meanwhile, Drake says he’s pledged US$200,000 to Houston flood relief efforts and is encouraging fans to donate as well.
The Toronto-born musician has contributed to a crowdfunding campaign started by Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, which had surpassed US$10 million by Thursday morning.
In a video posted on his Instagram account, Drake addresses “the resilient people of Houston and the entire state of Texas” and says he sends his love and prayers.
He also thanks Canadian businesswoman and former MP Belinda Stronach for making a donation.
Many celebrities have pulled out their pocketbooks to help Harvey victims in recent days including Sandra Bullock, who on Tuesday donated $1 million to the American Red Cross.
Numerous other celebrities have pledged sizable amounts to charities.
Here’s a list of stars who have publicly pledged to donate:
— Sandra Bullock, $1 million to the American Red Cross
— Leonardo DiCaprio, $1 million to the new United Way Harvey Recovery Fund
— The Kardashian family, $250,000 each to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army
— Country singer Chris Young, $100,000 to the American Red Cross
— D.J. Khaled, $50,000 to the American Red Cross
— The Chainsmokers, $30,000 to the American Red Cross
— Kevin Hart, $25,000 to the American Red Cross
— Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, $25,000 to the American Red Cross
— Jennifer Lopez, $25,000 to the American Red Cross
— Alex Rodriguez, $25,000 to the American Red Cross
— Wendy Williams, $25,000 to the American Red Cross

Toronto group heading to Houston to rescue ownerless dogs
The Canadian Press
First posted: Thursday, August 31, 2017 11:30 AM EDT | Updated: Thursday, August 31, 2017 02:01 PM EDT
TORONTO - Next week, a small team of Toronto volunteers will get into two vans, drive for two days to flood-ravaged Houston, pick up a group of rescue dogs from overwhelmed shelters, and head home.
Nicole Simone, who runs Redemption Dogs, an animal advocacy group based in Toronto, said four volunteers will leave the city next Wednesday to help an animal shelter in Houston that has seen an influx of canines after Hurricane Harvey hit the city.
The shelter needs to free up space and find homes for its animals because it keeps rescuing more and more dogs, she said.
“A lot of the rescues lost their property,” Simone said. “They’re all flooded out. They’re all overwhelmed.”
Simone has a friend who runs Hot Mess Pooches, a shelter in Houston, and has been following the organization’s efforts over the past few days. The shelter had to rescue 40 dogs on Wednesday alone, she said.
“It is really upsetting, so we thought we could help out, even in a small way,” Simone said.
Simone spoke to a friend in Toronto, who said he was willing to drive down to Houston, and then found two others who wanted to head down to the U.S. with her. She has also started an online fundraiser to help support the group’s efforts.
The Canadian volunteers will only be rescuing dogs that do not have owners, said Simone, who already has a handful of rescue organizations in Ontario lined up to take the dogs in and find foster homes for them until they are adopted.
Hurricane Harvey hit southern Texas last week and left large swaths covered in water. At least 31 people have died and emergency officials expect that number to climb in the coming days.
More than 1,000 homes in the state have been destroyed, close to 50,000 were damaged and over 32,000 people were in shelters. About 24,000 National Guard troops have been called in to help.
The situation is also dire for animals.
Rescue organizations from across the United States have mobilized to help deal with the fallout from the hurricane. Countless animals have escaped, have been abandoned or are strays that have been caught up in the flood.
The Humane Society of the United States is co-ordinating a massive effort to ship dogs out on planes to various parts of the country.
In many cases, people are bringing their furry friends with them as they evacuate. On Wednesday, more than 500 people took shelter at a bowling alley in nearby Beaumont, Texas, along with dozens of dogs, cats, a lizard and a monkey.

Trump opening up chequebook for Harvey relief, pledges to donate US$1 million
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Thursday, August 31, 2017 04:40 PM EDT | Updated: Thursday, August 31, 2017 05:11 PM EDT
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump is pledging US$1 million in personal money to Harvey storm relief efforts.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made the announcement at a briefing Thursday. She said Trump is calling on reporters to help decide which specific organization he should give to.
But Trump could also take a cue from his own re-election campaign. Earlier this week, his 2020 political committee blasted out emails and texts to more than 10 million supporters encouraging people to donate to Harvey efforts. The messages provided links to several specific charities: the Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way and local animal rescue operations.
Trump used a similar “reporters decide” gimmick at the beginning of his administration, that time with his presidential salary, which he is declining to accept. Then-press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters at a March briefing that Trump “has kindly asked you all determine where that goes.”
A few weeks later, the White House announced that Trump had decided to give his first three months of salary to the Interior Department; his second three months worth went to the Education Department.
Trump has been criticized in the past for giving far less of his income to charitable causes than many other multi-billionaires. And he hasn’t followed through on previous charity pledges.
In one high-profile example last year, he failed to give a promised $1 million of his own money — plus another $5 million he said he’d raised — to veterans’ organizations until reporters asked questions months later about who had received the charity.
Harvey’s flood waters have heavily damaged tens of thousands of homes across Texas and killed at least 30 people. The storm is now threatening the region near the Texas-Louisiana state line.
