Destroyed cities and destroyed peoples of disbelievers:
God destroyed many nations of disbelievers and transgressors, that is after sending them one or more apostles (messengers) to warn them of the consequences of their idolatry and wrong-doing.
Then when the cities (as usual) denied their messengers and insisted on their blasphemy and diobedience of God's commandments and of God's messengers .. He destroyed them with the punishment of termination.
Such termination punishment was either with earthquakes, hurricanes, flood, plagues, or wars (among themselves or by setting their enemies on them) ..etc.
Quran 18: 59, which means:
{Such were the cities [of ‘Aad, Thamood and others] which We destroyed when they wronged [the messengers of God and denied His revelations];
and We assigned an appointment for the time of their destruction d. }

59 d i.e. We promised them with it, and it was fulfilled as did We promise them.
