It doesn't matter if I live that long, your archaic ridiculous ideology won't be part of the future. It's simply wrong. You think capitalism will be around another 100 years? It won't be, because it's not sustainable.

And yet the only economies that have failed in recent decades are socialist or worse. Proving a system based on greed and laziness does not work. Oddly enough they are also the only countries that use machine guns to keep their own citizens from escaping. Wonder why that is?

You see, the automatic weapons are made by 'The People' and for the glory of The State and Der Leader so it only makes sense that they use them to oppress the masses.... I also suspect that life in these nations is so extra gooder fantastic that if they didn't have the police on every street corner with all those machine guns that all the capitalists would try to flood into those places as they are such utopias

If socialism is such an evil, why are the happiest countries mostly socialist? Finland is offering free education to any student, no matter their country of origin. If capitalism is so great, why are most post secondary students in Canada and the US up to their eye balls in dept before they even get a job? Seems that an awful lot of people have bought into some pretty bogus propaganda about socialism, especially when they can only think of communism when ever the subject comes up and ignore all the socialist countries that are very successful.

Memo to Cliffy:

Please note; socialism relies heavily on capitalist principles in order to operate.

The wonderful links you have so thoughtfully provided have made the case for the superiority of capitalism.

american propaganda was very effective , older people especially are indoctrinated so deeply they still espouse mccarthism. there's really no excuse for that much ignorance in today's world. the crab mentality is an issue, but eventually, people will learn. it's a slow process.

If Finland is free for education why do all our students not rush there? Oh, they have not spoken to Cliffy, it is too cold there, their mummies and daddys will not let them go...........or it is BS.
"Very important: studying in Finland is not completely "free" even when there are no tuition fees

Remember that even when there are no tuition fees, you still need to plan your finances - you are expected to independently cover all your everyday living expenses during your studies in Finland."

Note to Rummy:

There are a wide variety of capitalistic models. Unfettered free trade and the concentration of 90% of the wealth in a handful of people is more akin to fascism than democracy. Corporations make all the rules in this country. They have bought our country and our government. We live in a plutocracy or corporatocracy, not a democracy and that is the problem. That some people refuse to see that is why we are loosing our freedoms and rights. Time to wake up from the propaganda stupor we have been lulled into by megalomaniac puppet "leaders" like Harpo.

Finland isn't the only country with free tuition, and yes there are other costs it's still a capitalist society afterall. but it makes it a hell of a lot easier to afford living expenses when you don't have to worry about huge tuition fees doesn't it..

That is hilarious.... Really.

All you manage to ever do is piss and moan about capitalism and when push comes to shove, you flake-out by inventing some fantasy explanation that you hope gets your back from the wall.

Fact is this, contemporary 'socialism' can not exist without a strong capitalistic component - you know this and hence the fantasy about a variety of models thereby attempting to justify your flip-flop.

You and your buddy GoreOCD should really think about cohabitation, I'm sure it'd be a wonderful match

Northern Ontario,
An old one but always true.....

Tax System explained in beer.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.' Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men? The paying customers?

How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings)
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $ 20,' declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a Dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, this is how our tax system works.

The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction.

Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore.

In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Do you put Martin Cretien and Turner on your list of megalomaniac leaders or is it just Harpo and Groucho ?

About ten years ago I was in Berlin, and I bought an authentic East German Army forage cap from a former East German officer who was selling EG uniform pieces as memorabilia to the Westerners from a table on the sidewalk.

Defeating the enemy on the battlefield is satisfying, but real victory is buying his uniform for a handful of change on a sidewalk table in what used to be the capital of what used to be his country. Especially when the handful of change is the money of the enemy he swore to destroy.
