That would be because he is financially irresponsible, anti-American, obsessed with idiotic levels of gun control, and a sucker for the separatists.
Well, heck, Colpy, you're at least two out of four on that list yourself (don't know about your finances).

Those of us who are sincere advocates for democracy will support referenda throughout the eastern Ukraine to guarantee self determination for all including Russian speakers.

If Quebec ever separated (May the gods forbid) and metro Montreal or the Ungava wished to retain ties with Canada, the "free" world would cry "Territorial integrity or sanctions, Canada!"

Seriously the people of Crimea voted to join Russia, what is more democratic than that..

Would be the same if the people of Quebec actually had the balls to split from Canada in a referendum.

There would be soldiers in the streets of Quebec and extra police to stop violence.

No news, Putin owns Obama once more. Move along, move along.. Crimea is now a Russian state. Deal with it..

The soldiers and police would be there to put up the fence containing the PQ idiots. Making sure they did not contaminate the snow white restovus..............and making sure everyone who wanted out was able to get.

It's not like he's at the airport in Moscow shootin his mouth off is it?

Hardly DB. In that photo he looks constipated, or, wants to make sure people notice HIS flowers. Helluva job, Helmet.

They called a referendum with like a week's notice and while being occupied by Russia. This is not how you hold a legitimate referendum.

Further, countries have the right to determine the conditions for a part of their country succeeding. There have to be rules by which something like this takes place, and the principal source for those rules is the constitution of that country.

So a Liberal does one thing like a Conservative and therefore he should be a Con. An NDP guy does the same thing but doesn't qualify.

You make no sense.

Never mind the fact that you're the 'I hate liberals' guy on this forum.

Stephen Harper has drawn few accolades and many brickbats for his government’s performance over the past 18 months, and rightly so. But on the Ukraine file, since Russia’s illegal, duplicitous and reckless invasion of Crimea, the Prime Minister has been at his best. Both he and Foreign Minister John Baird deserve credit for the clear, principled and authoritative position they have taken, up to and including championing Russia’s indefinite suspension from the G8, now again the G7.

Some will say all Harper’s moves thus far have been obvious: What else could he have said? What else could he have done? But that would be neither fair, nor true.

It is easy to be "principled" when you have no skin in the game.

I don't agree... I think most often when a region of a country wants to split there will be certain people who will start a civil war or perform terrorism (PLQ) is a great example.

A quick divorce is less messy.. Go Russia, Get'er Done!!

Who decides how this should be done? Pretty much every country in the world has formed laws around the fact that not everything is open to being changed by a simple majority vote.

The fact is that everyone who lives in a country has certain rights enshrined in the constitution. No matter how many of my neighbors want to join the US, by no means should there be any way that 10 days from now I will somehow cease to be a Canadian Citizen, and no longer enjoy the protection of our constitution and charter of rights and freedoms.

It is a major change that affects everyone in a very fundamental way.

"Pretty much every country in the world has formed laws around the fact that not everything is open to being changed by a simple majority vote."

Wrong. Most nations require a higher level than a simple majority for constitutional change. In Canada, it is seven provinces with at least 50% of the population, or unanimous provincial consent, depending on the subject. In the USA it is Majorities in both the house and senate, approval by the President, and ratification by 37 out of 50 states.
