How about we deport anybody who has more than a few million and put them beside the Queen of England so they can feel humble again. Then they can come back and take care of the poor like they should have been doing all along.

The Queen and company can go an be medics in Africa for a few years.

I'd venture to say that back in her day, she could probably outshine you at a few things. :) :) :)

Northern Ontario,
You seem to be getting confused about the difference between refugees and immigrants, and keep veering back and forth between them. When I reply you get confused again. We should only accept the richest and best IMMIGRANTS. As for refugees, we should accept very, very few, and instead offer up money to neighboring countries which house refugee camps to help sustain them there until they can return home.

What I receive back on my taxes? I'm saying that it does us no economic good to bring in hundreds of thousands of people who will be non-contributors.

I believe in a progressive tax system. At the same time its troubling that so many Canadians don't have any skin in the game. When 50% of the population is collectively responsible for paying 3% of income tax, yet have the same rights and privileges as the 50% who have to be responsible for 97% of income taxes you are open to the problem that the first group will keep voting in politicians who want to spend, spend, spend, because they're not the ones paying the bills. I'm not sure how to address this but I feel it's not healthy in a democracy.
I used to do the taxes for a couple of nursing home residents, including my mother-in-law when she was alive because with my tax program I was allowed ten tax returns and the residents' taxes took very little time to do.
Well those residents, without paying a penny in tax, all got up to $600 dollars back in various credits from provincial and federal governments.
Unlike Cannut.....I never begrudged them those credits and was only happy to be able to get it for them
They are all deceased now, including my mother-in-law so I don't do it anymore.....

Someone get Cannuck some crayons and a colouring book.

Heheheheheh....

Surely you're not referring to Cannuck the great humanitarian who at age 65 is going to surrender his O.A.P. and C.P.P.

Your suggestion is that they should donate then?

My suggestion is that they are entitled.

Look, I have no problem with pigs at the trough as long as those filling the trough have a say. Saddling your decendents will the bill for your pigtroughery may be fine for some. I'd be embarrassed myself.

LOL So refugees cannot be rich and immigrants are always so?? And the rich of either are well educated and the poor not? In any case both groups want the life style we have. Why assume they are coming to change that life style because that is what comes across.

It is a good thing, when your ancestors came to Canada, those already here felt they were worth taking in eh??

As for the rest .........try relating the country to your family. One does not abandon one's family members who need help, become sick or suffer a financial set back. This of course does not extend to those who try to rob you or hurt you in any way. A Democracy is like that, only the family becomes the human race. Ideally, that country, like the average family does what it can without endangering the unit. That is what our country tries to do.

It is not perfect any more than the family units are, but it has made our country one of the best in the world.

I know numbers that are higher than what you can count on your fingers hurt your brain, but some information might be of value. This is several years old, but at that time the highest 1% of income earners paid 21.2% of income taxes. The top 10% of income earners paid 55% of income taxes. Meanwhile, the lower 50% of income earners collectively pay just 3% of income taxes.

Since then provinces and the feds have both increased taxes on 'the rich' several times, and have cut taxes on 'the middle class' so this would be higher today. Which means the 'rich' are carrying this country on their backs while freeloaders like you pay nothing.

Here’s what the wealthiest of the wealthy in Canada earn

... And why not? They paid into it for years

No, for the most part they did not. The origin of our massive debt was Trudeau the elder bringing in all these popular programs like pension schemes but not charging people for them. None of the boomers contributed anywhere near enough to pay for their benefits. Which is why younger workers today are actually contributing MORE for their benefits than they will get back.
