Thank goodness a member of congress got shot, else this incident would be brushed under the rug by now by American media, 8 hours later.

Canada strives to be like our gun-toting neighbours to the south.

You are a complete idiot.

Cannuck feel free to criticize me for being obnoxious.

Too bad somebody else wasn't exercising their rights, huh? (yawn)

Hey, that would have been great. Maybe more kids would have been caught in the crossfire of those people exercising their rights then there would be absolutely no sweeping it under the carpet.

Ahhhhhh think about what you are saying.

People defenseless, being shot down by a gunman unafraid to simply step up and put a bullet in them........

The idea that MORE people would die in mass shootings if someone was there armed and capable of defending themselves is the most idiotic of the many moronic claims of anti-gunners.

Think about it.

Unlike idiot gang-bangers, target shooters have a tendency to aim for the center of the visible mass.

When talking about the desire to see more people armed, few people seem to factor in that more people armed doesn't mean more target shooters with the passion or the skill for accuracy. Those who have that disposition are likely already carrying. Pushing to see the rest carrying also is frankly a worrying notion.

If someone started shooting at this guy, which I would find satisfying, where would their bullets go if the happen to miss. In a crowded grocery store I would think any direction would be like aiming at the centre of a mass. So I don't think it would be unlike gang bangers just for a different reason.

Sarah Palin's campaign from earlier this year. I would have thought before that it's just coincidence, and I still lean that way. But after the guy who admired Glenn Beck went and shot up an office of an organization that Beck had railed on, it caught my attention. Not only that, but there was also the FBI thing about fertile ground for right-wing militias and extremists. The left has it's fair share too, environmentalists, animal rights activists, I think maybe that some people have to start being more careful how ramped up they get with their rhetoric. Even if it doesn't encourage nutbars like this @sshole, milder discourse would be better.

The Palin campaign, using crosshairs on a US map to target House Democrats who voted for the health care reform package:

If the cops started exchanging fire where do you think the bullets would go?

From what I understand two people tackled this guy and he got away. Hopefully he doesn't have a stash somewhere else where he can pick up and start a second round.

I checked out his youtube, whatever his motives were is a mystery to me.

Arizona gun laws allow anyone over the age of 21 to openly carry weapons yet everyone is `shocked` and `surprised`. *yawn*

This has got nothing to do with weapons and everything to do with hateful nutcases.

O.K. anyone feel that Glen Beck might as well have gave this guys the gun and bullets to do the shooting with??

The Media (..and won't name any for fear of being sued), FoxNews seems to be trying to ramp up the hate, bigotry and anti-immigration in the USA.

( I won't name any talking heads for fear of being sued) Hannity and Glenn Beck seem to leading the charge in creating a more divisive America.

Seriously, McCain offered $50 hr to anyone in an audience he had at a rally if they would do the same work as any illegal in the fields for 1 years.. McCain would pay his wages.. not one person stood up.

So, when the Tea Bagging Racist Republicans push e-verify down every employers throat with threats of fines, and they create a new under ground cash society void of paying Social Security, State or Federal Tax and Medicare, are they also going to cut all welfare and unemployment programs to force those "American Citizens" to go get a job not even not even blacks want to do... (as Mexican President Vicente Fox stated...) Are Hispanics going to go through what we black people went through? - Yahoo! Answers

The one thing we cannot be is complacent. Using rhetorical anger filled symbolism's has an
appeal to some youth that can get out of hand and its unfortunate. The problem is that it may
not cause incidents like this, but it does motivate emotion over thought. There are pros and
cons to everything and the only way to have a serious discussion, is to respect everyone's
view. That also means eventually a decision has to be made and it seldom ends up one way
or the other. What happens is compromise. When people use rhetoric and emotion to paint
themselves into a corner, there is no room for the eventual compromise that has to take
place in a democratic society. When there is endless stalemate, the country suffers and no
one can move on or move the debate to a higher level. Abortion is a prime example, people
on both sides have got so caught up in calling each other names, and engaging in spiteful
rhetoric there is no room to listen or hear each other let alone find some meaningful way to
move the discussion to any level
Respect for diversity of opinion must be restored at all levels of society on the right and left.
