Letter: Time to start treating law-abiding gun owners better

The federal government, if it wishes to be intellectually honest, must withdraw Bill C-71, An Act to amend certain acts and regulations in relation to firearms.

It’s ostensible purpose, if Ralph Goodale’s comments concerning the bill can be taken at face value, was to tackle the issue of gang violence and the use of illegal firearms in the commission of violent crime.

There is nothing in this legislation which addresses either.

I have read through this bill and virtually every provision that would be enacted into law targets law-abiding firearm owners in this country.

The agencies administered by his own government show that over the long-term violent crime, both involving firearms and not, have declined for decades.

Those same agencies show that the average firearm owner in this country is charged with criminal offences at a lower rate than the average Canadian.

The Liberal government was elected with the promise of meaningful change and avoid politics as usual.

Bill C-71 is no different than any other legislation introduced purely for ideological reasons.

I ask that the Liberal government withdraw this legislation and begin treating law-abiding firearms owners as their fellow citizens, not a group to marginalize and attack for ideology’s sake.

One of the biggest problems we have in the political arena in Canada is the most powerful politicians by and large are products of the big cities. I suggest no one from population centres of greater than 5,000 should be able to have input into making laws.

So, you're clearly a believer in democrscy, then?

What percentage of the population of Canada is urban? (Look it up.) They don't deserve a say, you say?

Get rid of gun free zones. The gun control folks will howl, but there has been zero evidence that their concerns about teachers carrying guns are valid. Utah has had school carry for quite some time - it is actually illegal for the state to pass laws designating schools as gun free zones - and given media bias, we’d definitely have heard something if that was a problem.

Hell, I remember when my alma mater got campus carry, and the fake Texans that call themselves “Austinites” lost their minds for fear of blood in the streets and stifled academic debate due to any dispute not hesitating to produce handguns :-(, none of which actually happened. Also, it is known that mass shooters generally do not engage in firefights with resisting victims. Rather, they tend to kill themselves, probably because they don’t want to get shot before they can finish. 8O

10 killed, 53 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings

GO (WLS) -- A violent weekend in Chicago left 10 people dead and dozens more wounded, police said.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson plans to hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Monday.

However, CPD says it has seen a citywide reduction in shootings by 30 percent this year.

David Hogg protests outside NRA HQ — protected by armed guards

Anti-gun protester David Hogg hates guns — but apparently not enough to not be protected by them.

Hogg and a collective of anti-Second Amendment agitators protested outside the NRA headquarters on Saturday, and as the group points out, he was protected by armed guards.

This has happened more than once or twice, but the media doesn't like to talk about it..........along with the fact that typically when a potential mass shooter runs up against an armed civilian, the mass shooting doesn't happen.

Anybody want to talk about trained volunteers on staff carrying guns in schools?

Canadian universities have security officers that are sworn police. I think our youth are worthy of the same level of protection or more.

LOL, they are only there to protect the teachers and the property.

Students are only there to pay off the loans that fund all that S.S.uperstructure.

Once they sign on the line as debtors to the system, that's all they care about.

LoL reddied on the facts....sad doood. Heh heh.

You should see what EVILS those teachers have in their Pension funds.
