Northern Ontario,
Using a defibrillator may or may not save lives, It will fail to resuscitate those who's heart is not fibrillating or has already been severely damaged.
Using a gun defensively just might. However, as seen by those military men shot down recently, one has to be able to get the gun out first. Gun against gun is rarely successful. Stopping someone without one of course works.
Using a gun criminally, mostly results in death, even for the guy using it. The criminal is just about always caught and dies or commits suicide, so the results are the same. Ergo guns kill, period.
This has to be the dumbest convoluted piece of reasoning I have ever seen!

Much to blubyrd's disappointment, private handgun ownership in the US is at an all time high and violent crime rates are trending low, periodically setting new lows that beat 30 year old records.

In her reality, the 33k deathes are because the firearm is designed to kill. And, the 2 million defensive gun uses is an Off-Label use that should not be factored into these discussions.

To be fair, I consider the 2 million figure to be inflated. The best stats (in my opinion) say about 650,000 successful defenses with guns per year.

The most conservative stats put it that low. The fbi repeat the study in 2012 and estimated 1million to 2.5million. Its all in the wiki

Really?? Well it seems you have no clue about defibrillators have no wish to understand the lives saved by guns compared to those lost because of them is so minuscule as to be ridiculous. Ignoring the stats on the loss of life due to firearms and adjusting them to whatever takes your fancy. i.e., inner cities slum areas (forgetting they became slums because of gang wars with guns) No jobs, simply because it is too risky and expensive to keep industry, companies and shopping areas such places.

Defibrillators were designed to save lives not kill, unlike guns.

Canada has a good gun policy and anyone wanting one like the US has is insanely stupid.

When the US restores the proper keeping of firearm stats, there will be disbelief just as I am sure there is still disbelief about Canada's financial status. It seem I got the same sort of flack about our government's handling of the economy. I told you so, long ago and I am sure I will be repeating that as far as the gun stats go. Of course most of you ignore the fact that the US has the highest number of gun injuries and deaths of any country in the world with the exceptions of those at war, or run by thugs with no law whatever.

Northern Ontario,
Really?? .
Yes!
To follow you convoluted logic Doctors cause more death than guns

From NPR: How Many Die From Medical Mistakes In U.S. Hospitals? : Shots - Health News : NPR
By combining the findings and extrapolating across 34 million hospitalizations in 2007, James concluded that preventable errors contribute to the deaths of 210,000 hospital patients annually.
How does that grab you Mrs medical secretary....
BTW I was relief ambulance driver for a few years, so I know that a defibrillator can kill as well as cure if not used properly

They have no other design criteria.

Northern Ontario,
And that's your answer when you can't argue a point you just deflect and move the goal post?
No wonder Colpy doesn't want to discuss anything with you...

Neither do guns....they are designed to kill ...... . The design of a defibrillator is meant to restore normal heart rhythm and do so if used. It will not treat any other heart problem. Won't restore a heart with a bullet in it.

I am not the deflector. Comparing guns to defibrillators, or deaths by doctors was not done by me.

That is precisely what I was saying. Handguns are specifically designed to kill human beings at close quarters. Except for some extremely specialized competition pieces, there are no other design criteria for handguns, automatics. They take human life. Period.

You should give up. Unless you lay down on your back and accept their gun cock down your throat to the hilt then you will be wrong in their eyes. The gun lovers don't see beyond their own little violent world. The world is a more polite place for them because people fear their guns not their integrity or intellect.

DaSleeper Tell me are you really that dense?? One can learn to swim, there are defensive driving courses and one must prove he/she knows how to drive to get a license. So far as I know, they do not give courses on how to dodge a bullet. Are you seriously comparing accidents, mistakes to being shot?? The manufacture of a car (which I have pointed out before), is for getting from one place to another, swimming is excellent exercise and water is necessary to life and is necessary to all life. Learn to swim and medical personnel being human, make mistakes.

Curious Cdn .Sorry that bit you answered to was for DaSleeper.

How much sillier can you get?? There is no more dead or less dead; understand GUNS are produced for KILLING. You can be taught how to use firearms but understand that the training in firearms is how to use a gun to kill safely. Safely??? It is an object made to kill. Why learn to kill in the first place!! That is one fxcked up reason to have a gun. Hunting for food is fine as long as the animal being hunted is not done so to extinction. After all when the human race finally wipes itself out, it would be comforting to some to know we left one or two other species to appreciate the world.
