Re: Gun Control is Completely Useless. ??
as described, what "coercive power" are you (and your militia buddies) fearful of?
Too late!!!

It is an urban problem but that is where the vast majority of Canadians live, now. If you have a handgun in Toronto or Winnipeg, etc., you are definitely part of a problem. Nobody needs one of those. You can't hunt with a handgun. Nobody needs a repeating anything. If you're that bad a shot, don't pull the trigger in the first place. The "so called "assault rifles" are a sort of toy for those with drooping testosterone levels. They are not a useful tool for anyone, unless you happen to belong to Hezbollah.
Gee Whiz!! They came here to talk!!! The HORROR that Canadians might be exposed to a foreign IDEA!!!!!!
The HORROR that they may not accept your foreign idea.
Ya think that we haven't been exposed to that idea?
or any other idea from south of the border? They come to us load, clear, repeatedly again and again and louder the next time. Be are BOMBARDED with American ideas 24/7. It is relentless.
You're just shocked because we don't buy into some of them ... or a lot of them. It isn't a lack of information reaching Canadian ears (as is the situation in reverse). It is a fundamental difference in culture and values, hence the border.

Fifty-four forty or fight!
110 yards and Hut! Hut! Hut!
Your education continued:
The principle of the right to keep and bear arms is an English construct, not an American one. It existed in English common law before the Magna Carta, and was recognized in the 1689 English Bill of Rights, 100 years before the US Bill of Rights was written. As subjects of the Crown, the idea comes to us directly from our constitutional history, totally apart from US history.
We'll let you digest that for awhile. I know it must be a shock.
Oh, perhaps you could explain to me the difference between Canadian and american culture and values? I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm just curious to see how you describe them.
I absolutely agree.
Surprised you, didn't I?
Fundamentally, a handgun is a useless weapon. It's only purpose is to be easily deployed and easily concealed, neither of which is a positive trait in most circumstances. For any of the traditional reasons for gun ownership, hunting, defense, resistance to tyranny, the argument is much stronger in favor of long guns than handguns. It's even (ironically) reflected in the name of the American gun-nut group, the National RIFLE Association. That the NRA spends most of its time on handguns is simply amusing.
Drops back to pass. . . he's open. . . he heaves it. . . TOUCHDOWN! And the crowd goes wild!
Damn straight. Hope this doesn't disappoint you, Curious, but I'm a HUGE fan of the Canadian game, and particularly the Roughriders. I became a fan during the ill-fated expansion of 94 and 95, when the Baltimore Stallions were big in the CFL.'cause you ain't got enough downs to "run" the ball in our game!
Rabid gun-love and general ultra violence, for one. My people have lived on both sides of the border for over 300 years and I will tell you, child, that some of the differences are profound and some VERY subtle. You haven't lived very long, have you?
Well, the math tells me that if you were lugging a .45, that's .01 per year.CHILD????
LoL
You're an idiot.
I've been lugging guns around for over 45 years. Do the math, if you are capable.
Oh, expertise. Pffff! Who cares? We got CONVICTION!I have a degree in history and political science, and have spent my life reading history on my own. I am also a bit of a political junkie.
I have been a hunting safety instructor for the province of New Brunswick..
I have been an instructor for the Canadian Firearms Safety Program, both for long guns and for handguns.
I carried sidearms as a professional for over a decade.
I taught combat handgun and combat shotgun to armoured car guards when I became the provincial firearms instructor for the armoured services that employed me.
Wowsers. "Insolent puppy." Me rikey! Now, you insolent puppy, perhaps you should STFU and listen to those who actually know something.
The American murder rate is currently 4.5 per 100,000. It has fallen 50% in the past 20 years, as gun laws became looser, not stricter.
The world average is 6.2 per 100,000. The USA is a lot better than the world average.
The American murder rate is largely the product of the "ulta-violent" culture of inner cities (witness Baltimore) and is typically higher in places with strict gun control, and lower out where the guns are plentiful and easily obtained.
