In a case that has been discussed all over the Gopher state, the majority of people (including the very liberal lawyer Ron Meshbesher) sided with the defendant. But much to everyone's surprise the jury held Smith guilty on all four counts including premeditated murder. Mind you the guy had been robbed several times. On top of that a friend of the teen who was shot said he had it coming to him because he was such a immature guy who loved to start trouble.
Evidently, the judge did not allow the jury to hear testimony about the two teens and their history of trouble making. This is likely what turned the jury against the defendant. Frankly, I cannot see how premeditation can be inferred from the facts as reported. People should always have the right to defend their property and themselves. Did he go too far? Possibly. Well, at least the jury thought so. But I am not convinced that a guilty verdict for premeditation is warranted. Meshbesher will appeal but I don't like his chances as the appellate judges in this state usually side with trial judges.
Don't even have to watch the video. Before the recent spate of 2nd Amendment cases, the most recent 2nd case in the Supreme Court was in 1939. The Court held that a sawn-off shotgun was not protected by the 2nd because it was "not a weapon typical of the militia." Well. . . the militia is light infantry, so presumably automatic rifles, grenades, and light rocket launchers are protected by the 2nd.
Today a nutbar with a gun walked into the office of a sawmill in Nanaimo. Two are dead and two in hospital. Of course the only person with a gun was the nutbar. The victims were helpless to defend themselves because of Canada's repressive gun laws.
A bit hard to type an English pronunciation, but I'll try, "Grazhdanaye! Zdavaitye Aroozheye", (the ye at the end of each word pronounced like yeh with little emphasis on the "h" sound, and the "r's" are rolled and "a's" are always short) loosely translated "Citizens, Surrender your Weapons". You may not need to learn this though because the tyrants now or in the making will speak in our mother tongue, wear liberal clothes, have panache, charisma, and popularity, and we elect them.
What I find odd is that our government is expecting us to surrender to the gun grab, as is the Un and the EU with member countries, and many of us are doing so under penalty of criminalization, while even 100 years after this poster was printed there are citizens in Russia and Ukraine armed with Kalazhnikovs, and most likely the AKS models, not the wimpy 5 round SKS models we are restricted to.
I'm on neither side on what's happening over there, it was 3 generations in the making, but at least when both sides are armed it kind of evens the odds. Governments only disarm the populace for the safety and security of the government, not its citizens, that has been proven many times over. Since criminals don't obey the laws, govenment make more of them, that they still won't obey, but we suffer under them.
I hope we can collectively see this folly and take charge of our own fortune and make the governments do what they are supposed to do, serve us. As I've said before, tyranny creeps as the nation sleeps.
Sorry, I haven't ranted, or even been on here for a while, I had to get it out of my system, whew!
In that case I'm not sure it would have made a hell of a lot of difference as I doubt if all four of them would have been packing guns to work. If a nut bar decides he's going to kill you, there isn't much you can do about it.
There is if you know he's out to get you, but we are not allowed to. Granted you can't predict a surprise attack, which is exactly why covert ops do exactly that, but it doesn't mean you can't prepare for one, oh sorry, we live in Canada. Even if you are targeted and know it, there is not really anything you can do about it exept get a restraining order, call 911 and have the police come and take pictures and notify your next of kin after the fact, oh, too bad, you didn't get to the phone in time, the neighbours will have to call 911, after they are done texting, tweeting, facebooking, or whatevering.
My family was targeted at one time, and for a long time, and we were prepared, and although you cannot prepare for all eventualities you can be prepared for most. And it is really quite liberating when you are prepared, though not nearly as liberating as when the threat has been eliminated, for good. It is a mindset that we have adapted to over many years that will never leave us, and having to give up that is like stipping us bare and marching us through the streets. It was the local police sergeant who told us to prepare to defend ourselves because the police department could not.
That was then, this is now, and that was not that long ago. We are left to be victims and our current government is not doing anything to change that because we are still under the thumb of lobby groups that know victimhood equalls dollars, and they have the nation's ear.

I thought there were witness accounts on automatic fire in moncton. Is this persisting in the news? Ie I have some comments I want to make about automatic weapons but want to make sure it is relevant.
