All able bodied citizens who are are eligible by law to serve when called upon are the militia.That makes sense. The Supreme Court ruled in 1939 that sawn-off shotgun could be banned because it was not a "militia weapon."
If you follow the logic, the Second Amendment means everybody can carry "militia weapons." Historically, the militia is a light infantry force. This would mean "militia weapons" are semi- or fully-automatic rifles, light-to-medium machine guns, grenades of various types, one-person rocket launchers, and light land mines.
And NOT sidearms, which are used in the military only as officers' badges of authority, by MPs, and as survival weapons by aircrew.
"Hon, I'm going shopping! Have you seen my anti-tank rocket launcher?"
So no fat chicks or hicks.
