We lived on a farm, my first firearm was a .22 cooey single shot.
I was 8 or 9 at the time.]
After the usual instructions on safety and how to use it I would be given one single bullet and if I came back with a rabbit or a partridge I would get another one....If I missed I would have to skip a day.[/QUOTE]
No supper either?? lol, what a piece of shit your father was, you are a spotting image of him. Hunting at 8, you lying fuk. At that age my dad was always checking the pockets of my 2 older brothers for shells and when he found some he took them away. At 12 they got their .22.

My first gun was an old Stevens 22 single shot with a weak spring on the hammer, from there I graduated to a brand new single shot Cooey at age 12. I shot a few grouse but after a couple of years came to the conclusion killing wasn't for me! :)

A nice kukri? We had one of those in our living room, growing up.
I carry a knife all the time. It's a folding Victorinox without many other doodads on it but it's razor sharp.
Why?
For self protection? You gotta be kidding, buddy! It's a really useful tool kit. I keep it on a little lanyard, too. Old sailor's habits last a lifetime.
I used it on Friday to carve out the inside flanging on a cut aluminum extrusion so that I could measure it's wall thickness accurately with digital calipers.
A weapon?
Are you fecking nuts?

At home on the farm every vehicle and ATV has a small caliber rifle in it, I have shot coyotes and wolves messing with the cattle or dog. My work truck where I can't carry a firearm I have 3 knives and 1 multi function knife 2 of which knives are within reach at all times. You never know what you are going to run into on the road I'll stop to help people along the road or give them a ride. I have had to pull the knife once as one person I thought I was trying to help started getting aggressive I forced them outta my truck.

Colt is suspending the manufacture of AR15s for the civilian market.

But only because the sales are not up to snuff.

After pumping millions of these ridiculous weapons which have no civilian purpose onto the market Colt has found out that there is a limited number of people who want one and pretty much all of them have one or a cheaper alternative.

So..........................................

Colt is having the SAME PROBLEM selling its product.......................................

as Tesla and General Motors????????????????????????

There are only a limited number of suckers out there???????

Here is an article that ought to interest you hemerHOID.............................

a bunch of LIE-beral loving Cdn news media HYPOCRITES...............................

who are grabbing gravy in BIG HANDFULS from the LIE-beral $600 million dollar media slush fund......................

dedicated to news media that "LIE-berals TRUST".....................................

are advocating that govt BUY the Oshawa General Motors plant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Consider THIS CRAP Socialist argument::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Here is an article illustrating how far the Soviet Socialist MADNESS has penetrated into Cdn society!! With some comments of my own in brackets:)

Why Ottawa should buy the Oshawa General Motors plant, and do it now

Jennifer Wells - Toronto Star Business Columnist

Published Sept 17, 2019

With almost 50,000 unionized GM workers in the United States off the job, it’s time for another look at the future of the GM Oshawa plant.

(Sadly anybody with an ounce of sense KNOWS GM has no future in Canada!! GM makes cars that Cdns do not want!! They cost to much and are not especially reliable!! Gm pick up trucks have a history of transmission issues and Gm Vortec engines have a history of head gasket failure that results in serious engine damage unless very carefully monitored for SUBTLE warning signs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(Gm is known to its employees as “Generous Motors” for a GOOD reason - pay and perks at the plant are out of control!! When Oshawa GM workers were sent home due to a parts shortage due to the U.S. strike- a worker being interviewed let it slip that THEY WOULD CONTINUE TO GET FULL PAY while at home - since they are not the ones striking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(Aint that grand- you get paid while your allies strike for more gravy!! NO other industry I ever heard of offers such a deal!! In the past GM had nice arrangements with Employment Canada to offer up great wage top ups for laid off GM workers as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(The truth is that if Cdns KNEW how deeply GM was ALREADY in our pockets - they would be OUTRAGED!! We have only to consider the recent cancellation of $2.8 billion dollars in suddenly “un-collectable loans” to GM and Chrysler to get a feel for the scale of auto company rip offs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(Nor dothe deals offered by various Ontari-owe municipalities show up on the public radar!! When a company like Ford wants to set up a parts warehouse they seek out municipalities “who want the jobs” - meaning the city will FORGET about collecting ANY real estate taxes - in exchange for jobs!! AS a result - companies like Ford move their parts warehouses frequently rto avoid paying ANY taxes!! Add in the govt loans and the special unemployment deals and otherv little goodies and it all ADDS UP to an abuse of the tax payer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Editor’s note: The opinions in this article are the author’s, as published by our content partner, and do not necessarily represent the views of MSN or Microsoft.

When General Motors CEO Mary Barra delivered the hard news for the automaker last November — an “accelerated transformation” that condemned three GM assembly plants to unallocated status — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded, twitterly, with this: “GM workers have been part of the heart and soul of Oshawa for generations — and we will do everything we can to help the families affected by this news get back on their feet.”

(Twenty years back the age of the average car on the road was 6 years- but now the average age of cars on our roads is 11 years!! If you DOUBLE the service life of a product - you then reduce the number of replacement products you can sell -its simple - unless you are a Socialist ASSHAT!! GM is simply the weak sister of the automotive world and is paying the price in shrinking sales!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

We can recall the over-my-dead-body fulminations of Unifor president Jerry Dias. The made-in-Mexico boycott (check your VIN numbers, auto owners). The political pleadings at the North American International Auto Show (or the Detroit Auto Show as I still call it). And the head scratching: what does “unallocated” mean?

(Diaz is a dinosaur!! Even in Mexico most of the work is now being done by robots!! There ARE NOW JOBS to repatriate from Mexico!! And even if there were - it would NOT HELP GM because Cdn wages are higher and would impact retail sales prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(Any effort by Socialist asshats to dictate to Cdns what cars they should drive - should be seen through the Soviet vision of history!! East Germany built the hideous Trabant - with its balky smoking two stroke engine - while West Germany builds Porches and Mercedes and Volkswagens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(When the Soviet Union collapsed - East German Trabant drivers dumped their Trabant in the nearest ditch when the gas tank was empty!! If Star asshats succeed in persuading govt to buy FURTHER INTO GM - then we Cdns can look forward to having our very own made in Canada version of Trabant!! We have only to look at Bombardier- that gem in the LIE-beral business world- that has an UGLY RECORD of IGNORING delivery dates and now that LIE-berals have chosen to offer Bombardier a billion dollars in grants - Bombardier has developed a nasty habit of serving up crappy products as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(It is worth noting that most of the street cars that were delivered to Toronto Transit Commission - WILL BE GOING BACK to Bombardier - to have SHODDY FRAME WELDS REPAIRED!! Yes- shoddy work by a company that is SEVERAL YEARS OFF the promised and then IGNORED delivery dates!! But who needs reliable if you get a billion dollars from LIE-berals to cover your crap with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

So Oshawa, Detroit-Hamtramck and Lordstown in Ohio were to be shed from the assembly lineup, the terrible news barely assuaged by the later announcement that a few hundred aftermarket jobs — stamping and parts assembly — would be tossed Oshawa’s way. Hardly the scale of work to keep a 10-million-square-foot manufacturing complex humming. The jobs numbers: a step down from an initial loss of roughly 2,500 jobs to 2,200. As I have written previously, the devolution of Oshawa has taken it from the forefront of auto manufacturing to piecework.

Where was the brave thinking? Where was the innovation?

(Gosh!! Twenty years back when Torstar management could not reach a deal with its unions- Star FARMED OUT various print and set up jobs to NON UNION subsidiaries in ROCHESTER New York!! Soviet Socialist asshats always urge others to do what the Socialists WILL NOT!! Where is the Star bravery and innovation?? Gone to BUFFALO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Now, with a near 50,000 unionized GM workers in the United States off the job, a walkout that spreads across dozens of factories and parts warehouses, it’s time for another look.

Interesting, isn’t it, that under the weight of union bargaining for better wages and benefits GM has, in fact, reassessed the prospects for Hamtramck? Automotive News and others have reported that the automaker is offering to reallocate the plant with an all-electric pickup truck. Lordstown could get a boost with the allocation of an electric vehicle battery. By the time you read this, the strike may in fact have been resolved.

(Oh great!! Now Gm is trying to SUCKER GOVT into paying for production of a new electric TOY truck!! As we have seen- such electric TOYS only get sold if GOVT pays most of the cost!! Tesla got nearly $5 billion dollars from the state of Nevada to build its Giga factory there!! And after ten years - Tesla HAS YET TO MAKE A PENNY of profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Little wonder that the bailed out, hugely profitable, tax incentivized automaker is eager to push faster on electric. And little wonder that it wants to speed up the race for an EV truck. “We’re selling every truck we build,” Barra told analysts last spring, and she was referring to the gas guzzling kind. Consumers are at last onside with the electric imperative.

(On line with an “electric imperative”?? There is LIE-beral Fake News!! In related news - LIE-berals claim it is a LIE- and that Toronto Star IS NOT getting $115 grand per week from the Giant LIE-beral six hundred million dollar slush fund they set up to reward Cnd news media that LIE-berals trust”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(So okay- HOW MUCH IS TORSTAR really getting from the LIE-beral media slush fund?? Naturally LIE-berals HIDE behind privacy issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

And Oshawa?

One might think that a federal election at a time of climate crisis — go electric — would be an opportune moment for politicians to lay out innovative plans for the sector. Aside from the pledge by NDP leader Jagmeet Singh to create a national automotive strategy, anchored by a $300-million Automotive Innovation Fund, the plight of today’s working auto families appears to be going unaddressed. That goes doubly for the future of the sector.

(AS the now disgraced Wynne-bag LIE-beral Ontari-owe govt has already proved - you CANNOT sell electric TOY cars here UNLESS you also give out MASSIVE unaffordable subsidies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

On Thursday, a feasibility study on the future of the plant is being released, authored by a business consultant named Russ Christianson and commissioned by Green Jobs Oshawa, a group of autoworkers, retirees and community members. I can’t tell you what’s in the study yet, except to say that instead of accepting the closure, or the vast diminution, of the plant, Christianson makes the business case for transforming it into an electric hub.

(I suggest that when these lobbyists and cynical pressure groups get around to presenting their report- it will be LAUGHED OUT OF THE ROOM!! As it deserves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Supporters of electric TOY cars always gloss over the DRASTIC LOSS OF power suffered by an electric TOY car in cold weather!! And they completely IGNORE that fact that a LITHIUM battery suffers VASTLY REDUCED range and power capacity as it ages!! By the ten year mark a Lithium battery has at best - ONLY HALF the power and range it had when new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(Cdns who are happily driving their on average - 11 year old gas powered cars will not endure such a reduction in range and reliability from a costly electric TOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

LIE-beral and Socialist refusal to recognize legitimate public objections to electric TOYS will ensure that LIE-berals LOSE ELECTIONS - as Wynne-bag discovered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Northern Ontario,
I tried to get an appointment with your psychiatrist, but he said he had his hands full with a certain client.
City folks have no idea about life on a farm in Northern Ontario in the 50's .
At an early age you learn to shoot a rifle set snares for rabbit (Varying hare) and set traps for fox.
Actually the first (only) bear I ever shot when I was 15 or 16 was with my dad's .303 Savage.....the dogs had treed it not to far from the farm house.
My dad skinned it when he got home, the stink is one reason I never went bear hunting ......he brought certain parts of the bear to a chinese restaurant in town that was worth a free meal for us
