Gun Control is Completely Useless.

because if you are evil enough to rape an old lady, brutally beat them within an inch of her life, then resist arrest in a manner that threatens the life of a police office, you deserve to be shot dead.

to use that as a statistic to determine whether or not the law abiding citizen down the street should have a firearm is flawed logic

How many times are they used to commit a crime?

Irrelevant.

Self defense is a right.

That said, according to one anti-gun group guns are used 6 times more often in crime.

However, any attempt at serious gun control in the USA won't reduce criminal use, but will reduce self defense.

Because everybody who commits a crime is charged with it.

Yeah....if you commit a crime and get caught while carrying, you will be charged.

This fits with Gary Mauser's research, that showed licensed Canadian gun owners have a murder rate 1/3 to 1/2 that of the general population, despite being overwhelmingly male, all adult, and by definition having easy access to guns.

I did the math a couple of years ago on murders by CCW holders, and found their murder rate was 1/7 the national rate, very close to the rate of Canadian PAL holders, and one third the Canadian rate.

This is hard to duplicate because of the rapid spread of unlicensed "constitutional carry" laws which, btw, are becoming so successful because of the success of CCW laws.

I hear you and partly age. I think the stats are just logging the event with the bare facts, w/o getting into details or blame or fault. People against guns need all the data they can get to offset their flawed thinking. :) :)

Self defense is a right.
.

actually, i am not so sure that is true. i agree that the criminal code allows for lethal force when fearful of your life and this has been used many times to beat murder charges, but our various human rights dont specifically mention the to self defense.

furthermore, if you cite the right to self defense on a PAL application, you will have your application denied. someday i'd like to see a rich rancher take this one to the supreme court.

Unfortunately, you could extend that "right to self defence" to pre-emptive self defence and start killing people that you KNOW are out to kill you. You might even plan it well in advance.

Irrelevant.

.

Its not irrelevant at all.

How many times does a gang banger commit a crime and nobody does anything because they know he and his gang will shoot them if they try?

A million times a day?

If you are going to count guns helping to prevent crimes you are going to have to count guns helping to commit them.

The whole concept of this thread is "full retard", Clem.

Why do you insist on continuously being an asshole? Is it not possible to attack the statement/idea w/o jumping on the author's throat? I'm beginning to wonder if you are a nom de plume of Putz's!

It's easy to attack the ideas of what are obviously incompetent human beings when they insult you, first.

You really are as thick as tar.

nothing wrong with planning well in advance, any sane person does that with first aid kits, fire extinguishes, tylenol, soap, insurance, etc.

and even though you were try for full retard with you pre-emptive self defense, you failed to note that all self defense is pre-emptive ( at least if you want to be successful). I believe you were suggesting extreme pre-emptive, where one over reacts based on the possible threat rather than a real and present threat. it is natural for leftards to overreact in this way, but to suggest that I would that is definitely something that a full retard would suggest

Interesting that the arrest of the guy who sold rounds to the Vegas shooter is under the radar here.

Probably one of the more important arrests in the gun control world.

they keep talking about tracer bullets and armor piercing bullets.

I'm not sure what they mean by armor piercing bullets because all .308 ammunition is armor piercing. The .308 170grain bullet that I use for big game hunting is armor peircing.

Also, tracer rounds aren't necessarily more armor piercing, they have a pyrotechnic effect as they travel through the air.

I don't know technically what armor piercing is or means, but whatever it is you need a license down there to sell them.
