IndustryWeek : GM to Build New Vehicle at Plant in Mexico
Pretty good for a broke company huh?
How about the new plant in Bogata? Built on GM's own money?
If you want your money back, then buy a GM car. If you choose not to buy a GM car either because you don't want to buy a car, or you want to buy a motorbike or bicycle or car from another manufacturer instead, then you forfeit your investment. Doesn't that sound fair? Don't you like having them hold you by the balls like that? I know, I hate it too and I was absolutely sick to my stomach to have our government bail out the car industry, especially seeing that I won't get any of that money back since I'm not planning on buying a GM car!
I was especially sickened that the NDP supported this bail out. After all, I thought the NDP was supposed to be anti big corporations and for the little people! Ha, so much for that eh.
GM is making a healthy profit and paying off its government debts so I really don't see what you are bitching and moaning about.
Go build your own car,I suggest.
What do you do for a living? I need to assess whether you actually earn your money and if not, I'm going to tar and feather you and then feed you to the kraken.
The money is being paid back because there profits are protected by putting import fees on competition from Korea and Japan.
Be careful who you threaten !!
Can't these Ontario bone heads complete in the world market??
World class, I must be missing something, just how world class do you have to be to be able to mount tire on it's hub, especially if it's elevated and in an air conditioned environment. If you'd done your research you'd know that Canadian workers are world class, and the screw-up is on the management level.
The last time I checked, as a taxpayer, I still own part of GM and some of the others.
Also, if I want to buy a Japanese or Korean car, I wind up paying a hidden import duty so that the jobs of our slackardes can be protected.
What gives here anyways???

I subsidize their jobs by buying into their company, I subsidize their jobs by import duties and now I have to subsidize them through transfer payments. They need little education and little skills to work in a production line, but they still make these huge wages and perks for working in a nice air conditioned production line,
What gives here anyways???
I want Harper put a cap on all auto worker wages, set it at, say $25/hr, including all perks..
If they don't want to work for this wage, then Toronto has a lot of unemployed immigrants who would love this job at half this wage in a nice air-conditioned production line.
Cmon, Harper, we gave you majority, now use it to correct all of the screw ups of the Liberals and put Canada on a free market economy.
I don't want to subsidize anybody and I want to buy my vehicles from any country without any duties.
So c'mon Harper, we gave you the power, now use it !!

Yes, I really don't agree with gov controlling wages either. But I don't like being held hostage by unions either. Maybe there's another solution ??if they start controlling auto workers' wages it's just a short jump to the butcher, the baker and the light bulb manufacturer.
Well your free to express your opinion. I guess your even free to denigrate some one if your so inclined. But in the end, it does say something about you. You're a Fascist..
It's impossible for any sane human to be as dunked by what you say, so you are being paid by Lucifer to accelerate Armageddon.
When God delivered prophesies about the future, He was not saying how things had to be... He was saying how things would turn out if they kept going...
And you f-ckes think it's going to be funny suffering in hell.
You clearly don't know about how in the earlier part of the previous Century the workers demand, and got, a share of the industrial wealth and went forward to spend their money on the products in order to keep the economy rolling.
You know *nothing* about what's going on in China, and you know *nothing* about what Japan is preparing to do in order to survive after the New Yorkers ****ed the economy. Congratulations with your ultimate unregulated freedom. You ***** have never read the Bible nor have you wondered how the world worked before regulation and why people asked for it.
Yes, I really don't agree with gov controlling wages either. But I don't like being held hostage by unions either.
Me neither least of anyone, but unions' strength is ultimately controlled by the market place.
If they put a wage cap of about $25/hr, and got rid of some of their non performers, they would be completive in the world market.
Then we would get our tax money back, no more subsidies and no more import duties.
It's a win win for everybody!!!
The NDs, you never know which way they will swing!!
This is why the right fringe is so worrisome. Just when GM is turning the corner, they want to start monkeying around with the organization. I say, pay the workers whatever the market dictates. Mind you, I'm for free enterprise. I'm really beginning to think that is a foreign concept to those on the far right.

In response to the OP though, I'll say that I disagree with putting a cap on auto worker wages. At the same time though, I'm also for auto workers paying the price for greed. Bailing out the industry does not give them a chance to learn. Instead we pay the price for excessively high wages.
Except when the government bails it out.

Do you really think that wages are the main contributer to the collapse of the auto industry? I would suggest that it was the exec's near sighted reliance on massive gas guzzling SUV's that did it in for them, they're great when gas is cheap and loans are cheap, how they didn't foresee what was coming is beyond me. In my opinion, blame the pricks at the top, they created the mess.
