Let the bastards fade into oblivion. Canada needs the Postal Service about as much as it needs buggy whips.

Are you talking about the Union "heavies" or the hard working mail delivery employees? My mail delivery lady has 450 houses on her route, walks 10 km. a day on steep terrain- I have absolutely no problem with whatever it is she gets paid. It's not her fault the demand for postal service is waning. The workers deserve respect and you should be careful that your message isn't misconstrued as calling them "bastards".

that can be acomplished by taking your business elsewhere rather than kicking them in the balls

I, as all the normal and regular people in the world have already done so. Kicking unionist bastards, if only figuratively, in the balls, remains a cherished pleasure.

Bills rendered and paid ONLINE.

Greeting cards sent and received ONLINE.

Who needs them?

Probably about 25% of folks who don't have computers. A lot of perfectly sensible and well adjusted people don't believe in or can't afford all the questionable technology. Maybe they are the sane ones.

We do very little bill paying on line for a reason. Mostly we do it at the bank, in person to ensure that banks must continue to have real people there rather than talking to a computer which I know the higher ups would much prefer.

postal workers, like most government employees have priced themselves out of the market when compared to equivalent private sector employers. Much of this has been caused by left leaning governments seeking to buy votes at the taxpayers expense.

Lots of people. In our business, many of our big customers don't do electronic invoicing or bill payments, and we get a lot of mail.
In my personal life, I get mail that is important every day - I don't use electronic billing for everything, although I do pay most bills on line.
I subscribe to some magazines that I get every month in the mail.

Look at it this way: if you don't use Canada Post, you're not paying for it, so why don't you politely go away from the conversation?

I hear you as long as you are not paying a service charge to pay a bill- if one is necessary the payee should be paying it.

But why should not a decent person take the pleasure of kicking some unionist thug in the balls, after years and years of being kicked in the ball by the same unionist thugs?

Your previous post didn't clarify which faction was being labelled "bastards"- some people mistakenly lump the employees together with the Union honchos. (like Avro eg.)

Actually, businesses and corporations do need the mail services as some types of correspondence must be sent and received as a direct copy. Paying for courier services to offset this strike will be a huge dent in corporate profits.

But, you know.. the economy.. who cares, right?

WTF?!?!?!?!?!

Yesterday in the news, Canada Post locks out the workers.

Today, the government threaten to issue a back to work order.

Is this a case of two arms of the government that have no idea what the other arm is doing? :)

I agree about cheaper, but is it really quicker?

Parcel service can be. Perhaps a few days more..................BUT................UPS and FEDEX want the blood of your first born when they deliver the parcel. In spades if cross border is involved. Purolator is owned by CPC, and CPC and Purolator have made a profit every year since CPC became a Crown Corp.

Folks won't miss CPC till it's gone and the price of everything goes up and the service becomes self service. You ain't seen nothing yet.

Like most folks, my bills come e.mail and get paid electronically as well. Just doing my bit as a loyal Canadian.

Just keep the pension cheque coming. Direct deposit of course.

How many people on here realize direct deposit and e.mail have been around for at least 15 - 20 years or more.. CPC trots out the "they're really hurting us" by demanding a fair wage..............oh the dirty workers - every time a contract expires. They're making out like bandits with admail.

In close to 30 years of service with Canada Post I was involved in two strikes, one lockout, and ordered back once. Not a bad average considering Vale Inco kept its workers on strike for more than a year trying to break the union,. With no back to work order. Nice.

Anyway; no, it's probably not quicker.

Oh yeah. I guess lock out is reducing service. yep.
