There is a saying that might apply here. 'Don't change horses in the middle of a stream', this part is usually left out for some reason, 'unless the one you are on has drowned and the other one is still swimming', then you would be dumb not to go for it.

TORONTO — Canada’s largest school board is considering a drastic change to its practice of steering high schoolers toward either “academic” or “applied” courses in an effort to remove barriers and offer equal educational opportunities to all students.
(In other words- our kids are now going to be dealing with LOWER academic standards and compromised education thanks to so many kids of immigrants- brought in by LIE-berals simply for the sake of buying their votes- FAILING in school! There is a disturbingly large minority in Canada that equates success in school with selling out to whites- and that group includes lots of Cdn natives!)
The Toronto District School Board’s director of education, John Malloy, has suggested an overhaul of the policy — known as streaming — that requires students in Grades 9 and 10 to choose whether to take courses such as math, science and English in the more theoretical, university-geared academic stream, or the hands-on, practical “applied” stream.
(LIE-berals think it looks bad to have Asian and White kids- whose parents have provided them with motivation and discipline to do well- in university geared education stream while black kids, natives and some others such as Portuguese- too often slump into technical blue collar streams- in spite of the reality of black apathy towards education!)
“Our data suggests that when students are studying at the academic level in Grades 9 and 10 their chances for graduation grow and their opportunities after they leave us are better,” Malloy said, adding that if given the right support in the classroom, almost any student can thrive at the academic level.
“Our goal is to have the majority of students in academic courses and try to minimize the use of applied courses in all schools, and in some schools there will be none.”
(HOGWASH! Teacher union Hogs cannot overcome parental propaganda picked up at home! Teachers are the public face of alleged white privilege and are too often viewed as the ENEMY! It does not help that teacher Hog unions are so greedy they have alienated most of the public- including whites!)
Nearly one fifth of Grade 9 and 10 students took a majority of their courses in the applied stream last school year, the board said.
(AS I KNOW from others- IT IS POSSIBLE to switch over from applied blue collar courses over to academic courses- IF THE KID IS SUFFICIENTLY MOTIVATED- and that leaves out to many black kids in Toronto!!!!! But the solution is NOT to poison the white kids and Asian kids education in order to hide black under performance and failure!!!)
Streaming into academic and applied courses has been standard practice at all public Ontario school boards since 1999. But Malloy’s proposal — which was to be considered by a school board committee Wednesday evening before being debated by board trustees on Feb. 7 — would require schools to root out more subtle forms of streaming that he says occur as early as kindergarten.
(Streaming can never be fully eliminated- it is a simple as putting the smart and well disciplined kids in one class and the undisciplined dunces in another! Sadly our educrats see nothing wrong with killings streaming- they figure they are IMMUNE to the social and economic consequences of producing a generation of dunces!)
“We don’t want to put (students) on a pathway too soon that moves from a struggle to read to a special education program that might then lead to an applied program,” Malloy said.
(Lack of real discipline in our school system ensures that the dunces drag down those around them while disciplined and properly motivated kids can forge ahead- if social justice warriors are kept away from them! And teacher unions have a hand in this de-streaming- they want each teacher to have the same number of dunces in each class so some teachers do not look like failures for their inability to motivate the dunces! And union equality is also involved- why should one teacher get to deal with the well disciplined class while another teachers deals with rowdy morons- so unions want to mix in the good with the bad for their own reasons even though it will damage some kids education! There is NO good reason to run our school system for the convenience of LIE-berals, or their bigoted pressure group allies or for the civil service union Hogs either! Most Cdn parents want their kids to receive the best possible education and de-streaming caters only to the dunces and saves LIE-berals from possible embarrassment over immigration choices that HARM our country!)
A study led by York University education professor Carl James, released last year, found that black students in the TDSB are twice as likely to be enrolled in applied courses, as compared to kids from other racial backgrounds.
“It could be because of disillusionment (black students feel) with the education process, the alienation they feel from school, the fact that the curriculum might not speak to them in ways that engages them effectively,” said James, who welcomed the idea of limiting streaming in Grades 9 and 10.
(Certainly black kids are often disillusioned and why not? They live in a society where LIE-beral govt bombards them with messages about our “systemic racist” society and blames all black problems on whites! LIE-berals think nothing of smearing cops who are simply doing their jobs by arresting criminals of ALL ethnic flavours- it s NOT a cop problem that so many blacks are criminals yet LIE-berals want black kids to think the problem IS with cops! Black kids live in a school system DOMINATED by hypocrites and LIARS and grossly selfish union Hogs! And apparently black parents are unwilling or unable to counter the LIE-beral Fake News- no wonder some kids are discouraged!)
James found that, often, black students were being pushed into the applied stream by teachers or guidance counsellors, raising questions about racial bias among school staff.
(Too bad that in their rush to condemn white society, LIE-berals NEVER ASK if the teachers might be right about their estimates of some black students ability!)
“We as a community and a society have to reassess how we … evaluate students and measure what we consider their intellectual abilities and skills,” James said.
(The ONLY practical measure of a students ability MUST BE the scores honestly obtained on EQAO standardized literacy testing! Anything less is political meddling for the sake of buying votes from failures- affirmative action efforts have been a complete failure in United States as those who benefited from the preferential treatment came to be seen as carrying credentials they were NOT entitled to! And then there is the failure rate of black kids who have been let into collegs simply because they are black- without being able to pass standard literacy tests- so they quickly fail and drop out- with LIE-berals whining yet again about discrimination! How can black people have self respect when LIE-berals insist blacks need special protections due to their inadequacies?)
A handful of TDSB schools have already eliminated streaming in some grades.
(In some schools it makes sense to dispose of steaming- but this presumes all the kids in a specific school are having equally difficult times! People with similar educational abilities CAN be lumped together without hampering outcomes- but LIE-berals MUST understand that educational standards that are acceptable in blue collar Parkdale ARE NOT acceptable in middle or upper class white collar North Toronto!)
And students who may have normally been in applied courses, or who have special education needs can take an additional “learning strategies” class, to help them with literacy and numeracy skills.
(Yes- summer school classes CAN HELP kids who find the maturity and discipline to seek higher standards! But de-streaming HIDES those higher standards from our kids! They will not have the frame of reference to know how badly they may be doing- until they get out into the world and start competing for scarce jobs- and LIE-beral weasel words blaming white privilege will not help that situation!)
“At the end of the day when it comes to those challenging courses, the maths and sciences, a lot of kids struggle not necessarily because they’re not capable but because of the way it’s being taught and because not everyone learns the same way,” said Maddie Di Muccio, president of the Society for Quality Education Canada advocacy group.
(Child centred learning- with its lack of interest in ensuring kids learn the basics like multiplication tables and its deliberate avoidance of setting standards of proper spelling and grammar by repetition - has been proven as a failure- yet Cdn teachers cling to that failed system apparently because it is easier for the teachers than the more effective rote learning!)
“It’s not bad necessarily to have that option of going for applied because it’s in those courses that are easier that you learn, ‘maybe I really do like this (subject) and maybe I want to be more challenged,”‘ she added.
(There is another cherished LIE-beral MYTH!!! That learning is enjoyable! Real learning- of ANY SORT- is hard work- just ask any kids learning to ice skate or develop the skills to beat another level in a video game or the first time! To learn a new skill or achieve real progress in an academic setting is just as difficult in its own way as learning to ice skate!)
(And educators are conveniently FORGETTING how they got saddled with EQAO testing!!!!! Concerned parents who got a clear look at how little their kids were really learning FORCED standardized testing on the lazy Hogs running our schools! And now the Hogs are doing everything in their power to turn the clock back to a more IGNORANT and union Hog friendly time! One has only to think of the enraged parent who wrote a letter to a local paper- about 20 years ago- with this complaint: “my sons spelling is terrible and there seems to be no effort being made to improve it”? The teachers response was: “it doesnt matter- your son is intelligent so he will probably have a secretary to correct the spelling for him”! And educators wonder why the public gets uneasy every time LIE-berals and their Hog allies try to “IMPROVE” our education system? )
I noticed the spelling LIE-Beral. that tells me he actually wasted his time typing that whole thing... unless he has it saved in MS Word so that he needed to type it only once a few years ago and has just been cutting and pasting from it since?

(Oh- there is the first problem- too many kids using calculators and such and not learning the basics! And as an added benefit- the LIE-berals struggling to teach our kids using disgraced an disorganized methods- are themselves MATH CHALLENGED! Wynne-bag LIE-berals issued THREE SEPARATE NUMBERS for their 2018 budget and now Ford is hiring an independent team of auditors to find out what mess our books are REALLY IN! Ontario reviewing school curriculum in wake of poor math results. It’s like the definition of insanity: Doing something the same way and expecting a different result. In this case, it’s the touchy-feely provincial math curriculum that is not teaching students what they need to know to function beyond the classroom.
Throwing more money at the problem adds up to nothing if the provincial government and school boards insist on teaching math the same old way, say education experts.
Education consultant Doretta Wilson, commenting on the pathetic performance of Ontario students on the 2017 Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) standardized tests, said the $60 million the education ministry plunked into a Renewed Math Strategy a year ago, has not and won’t “solve the problem” unless the government is prepared to go back to square one and ditch the “discovery method.”
Ontario students desperately need to be taught basic math skills first, she says.
(This use of `rote` learning- memory style learning is despised in Ontari-owe schools as it is a BORING way to teach- it bores kids who find the memory work and repetition dull- it bores teachers who must push kids to do that boring work and it bores parents who to often have to take up the slack at home and help kids learn in the evening the stuff they did not learn while day dreaming at school! This is certainly my experience and it is the conclusion of the expert from England who came onto TVO/The Agenda to say just that about 15 years back! And the guy was ENTITLED to comment since he was one of the CREATORS of this child centred learning that is bedeviling us! The guy has had a chance o see his method operating in the real world and now recognizes that child centred learning and its more recent incarnation as discovery learning are a disaster!)
In discovery-based instruction, a staple during the Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne years, teachers function as facilitators to students while they sit around in groups and solve problems.
(This child centred learning- the traditional name for it- is not a bad system for kids who are motivated and intelligent- AS WELL AS LITERATE- as this teaching method relies heavily on reading skills- if your kid is not doing well in English class- your kid will ALSO struggle in math- unable to read the problems being posed! It also helps if your kid is mentally disciplined- kids who have not had breakfast, who are worried that parents will be unemployed when they get home, who have parents whose language skills are to limited to help the kid with homework, or kids who are convinced by reverse racist parents that the white world is out to get them will not participate fully in “child centred learning” as they have other matters occupying their minds! LIE-berals do understand that kids bring problems from home wirh them to school and it affects their performance- so WHY are LIE-berals screwing up our immigration system and bankrupting us with debt? IT HURTS KIDS AND PARENTS!)
“There’s nothing wrong with memorizing the times table so it becomes automatic,” Wilson says, likening the repeated practice to learning how to golf properly.
The EQAO scores, released last week, show among other things, that only 50% of Grade 6 students met the provincial standard in math and 79% did so in writing.
In high school math, 83% of students enrolled in the academic stream met the provincial standard while a mere 44% of those in applied courses were able to function to the province’s standards.
Retired Hamilton elementary school teacher Teresa Murray, who tutors math-illiterate students of all ages, says the latest results are not the least bit surprising because the curriculum has the “same weaknesses” — that is, students are not taught to add, subtract, multiply and divide properly, nor is a topic like fractions learned thoroughly before a new one is introduced.
(With kids lack of progress MASKED by routine use of calculators in all grades and especially by report cards that sugar coat lack of progress in an utterly mis-guided effort allegedly to “bolster” kids egos! But a cynical parent will ask if it is the kids ego being bolstered or that of the teachers? Teachers believe they are honestly earning those wonderful salaries and solid gold pensions and having to admit they have a string of dunces learning little or nothing in their classes erodes their sense of entitlement- hence the report cards that tell us NOTHING about our kids real progress! It is exactly this problem of unreality in report cards that prompted the Harris govt to implement the EQAO testing program- the one teachers now INSIST is no longer necessary- in spite of falling academic scores!)
“There’s a whole lot of new bureaucracy ... Too much money is being spent on all of this and the results are still poor,” she said.
Murray adds that the results are poor despite the fact that the EQAO tests largely “problem-solving” in math and the fundamentals like fractional arithmetic and division are not “well-tested.”
(In other words, teachers are actually testing kids reading skills and their ability to decipher the question rather than actual mathematical skill- obtaining the right number answer!)
She feels the standards are not very high either for writing and based on her experiences tutoring children in writing and reading, the actual instruction of writing is “neglected.”
(Spelling, grammar and syntax are another set of BORING topics- and such things are routinely ignored these days! In more `primitive` times, a badly written history paper would be marked down- now poor English skills are glossed over.)
“The format of the test has become simplified over the years,” she says.
(What a surprise that the LIE-beral fix is in! LIE-berals dumbing down the test to cover for their teacher allies- so they can justify those shipments of Hog gravy! And dumbing down the test to cover for all the immigrants selected by LIE-berals because of their penchant for supporting LIE-berals rather than their capacity to excel in Cdn society or academically! If the parents have no education it often follows that they cannot motivate or aid their kids either! LIE-beral immigration policy is loading up our schools with kids who are heavily handicapped by language limitations and attitude problems- and this is slowing up the progress of other kids who DO posess the needed skills, motivation and attitude! The class must move forward as a group and the slow ones hold back the brighter ones- with no way to separate out the slow from faster.)
Wilson says in the case of Ontario high school students in the applied stream, poor math and literacy scores are the result of a failure to address problems in lower grades which compound as kids get older.
“Many know very little arithmetic by the time they get to Grade 9 and become very disillusioned by this and other factors in their lives,” she says, noting that often those taking an introductory college math course study the same material they should have learned in Grades 5, 6 and 7 (!).
(I can say that many college students end up taking remedial English classes as well and they too end up going over work they should have learned many years back!
The dismal results were so upsetting to Maureen Somers, former co-chair of the Ontario Coalition for Education Reform (a provincial education lobby group that was behind many of the educational reforms in Ontario schools during the 1990s), she came out of retirement to comment.
Somers says there is plenty of documented research and data — six commissioned reports — compiled by successive provincial governments, which concluded the cause of steady decline in literacy and math scores was “directly related to instructional techniques.”
(Instructional techniques refers to that child centred learning that has been repudiated on TVO by one of its major creators!)
She said the endless studies showed reading and math skills need to be taught using “direct instruction” methods and parents expected “clear standards of achievement” that show students truly know core skills.
(“Direct instruction” equals learning by rote- memory work that many teachers SCORN! Teachers are on record as SCORNING the “NEED TO TEACH TO THE TEST:_ that is too make sure kids CAN pass the EQAO educational standards- the ones teachers are saying are NOT NECESSARY! Teachers claim they are doing their job “for the kids” but the truth is they are doing it TO the kids- screwing them over for GRAVY!)
“Noting complicated, easy to implement,” she says. “Fifteen years later, parents and taxpayers are left scratching their heads over the (EQAO) scores.”

Hydro is top of mind during this provincial election, and for good reason.
Green energy, overcharging consumers and high salaries to hydro executives dominate headlines. It’s a combination that makes for an explosive issue.
One of the excuses given for paying skyrocketing salaries to hydro official is that it’s a complicated job where special and exacting skills are required to run the business.
Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford has even dubbed Hydro One “the six-million-dollar man,” for drawing a paycheque of $6.2-million.
In my last report as Ontario’s Ombudsman called In the Dark, released almost 3 years to this date, I found wildly egregious errors in Hydro One’s billing practices as well as a culture of complacency when it came to customer service.
Hydro One is the most complained of government body since the creation of the Ombudsman’s office. An unprecedented 10,565 people came forward with all types of issues, including overbilling.
One corporate customer, for example, was billed $15 million instead of $4,034.47. In one of the most extreme examples, Garrison Petawawa received a whoppingly incorrect bill to the tune of $50,751,518.05.
(In some of these cases of over billing Hydro One has opted to KEEP the money- but credit large sums to the customers bill- as if we have nothing better to do with our cash than to give it to Hydro One so THEY can earn interest on it! And these cases of over billing indicate either very careless accouting by Hdyro clerks or not so smart meters- or both!)
The report was a wake-up call not only to Hydro One, but to all hydro companies in Ontario. Stop milking the unsuspecting customers!
But we’ll never see such damning reports again because the Premier Kathleen Wynne government removed Hydro One from the oversight of all officers of parliament. Shoot the messengers of bad news and bad news goes away.
(Yeah- hide the books away and we will NEVER KNOW if Hydro is billing us correctly - for instance they are supposed to be charging us holiday rates on long weekends- but ARE THEY using the lower holiday rates regularly or is that just another LIE-beral stretch goal? They told us smart meters would save us money and that deliberate bit of Fake News has completely eroded public trust! And LIE-berals hiding the books aint helping restore it! And now we have Our idiot Boy Justin frantically defending his carbon crap and trade scam that will only clean cash from wallets and leave the dirt in the air! And Our idiot Boy Justin is no more forthcoming about carbon crap details than his pal Wynne-bah was about her budgets or her hydro pricing!!)
Did the high-priced hydro people listen to the message in the report to clean-up their act? Not according to Jeremy Poteck, once described as the hydro bill whisperer by former Sun columnist Christina Blizzard.
Poteck founded Poteck Power to hunt down errors in hydro bills once he read my report.
Poteck offers a free audit and charges on contingency. According to him, he has since recovered over $22 million in refunds from auditing businesses, hotels, not-for-profit organizations and the broader public service, such as universities and hospitals. That’s no chump change.
(And at the same time that LIE-berals were engaged in this price gouging with sloppy billing and mouldy green energy madness- they went and bought into a Yankee power company that uses COAL for electrical generation- so much for LIE-beral policy telling us any price was worth paying to get out of using coal! With the added bonus that our LIE-beral environmental warriors ALSO bought into the massive pollution lawsuit that the coal fired power company is LOSING- and it will cost billions of Yankee bucks- not the cheaper Cdn ones- to resolve that mess- with Ontari-owe tax payers paying their share!)
Who knows how much more money may be lurking out there that belongs in these institutions’ pockets?
(What we DO KNOW is that NDpers- led by the odious wind sock Horvath- she who also sneers at LIE-berals -without admitting her own party values are even more corrupt than LIE-berals- also sneered at Ford for firing the head of Hydro One! As if it was Fords fault that LIE-berals had given him TEN MILLION DOLLARS IN STOCK OPTIONS- just a little mad money that he could cash in ANY TIME he felt like it!!!!)
On Friday, Poteck issued a press release in which he stated: “The time is now for companies and organizations to take back the money that is owed to them as a result of hydro billing errors. A refund that’s available today under the current government may no longer be available after June 7.”
Poteck says he recently recovered $276,000 in refunds for a single Toronto hotel.
Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford is likely to be the next Ontario Premier after the June election. He has not minced words about making heads roll at Hydro One. Ford’s next step will no doubt be to take measures to put in top staff concerned with improving customer service at Hydro One and in improving billing practices.
(I suggest that Ford has a MULTI DECADE LONG BATTLE ahead of him if he wants to truly reform our civil service union Hogs! Those Hogs will fight any and all initiatives made to reform them!!!)
Poteck’s message could pretty well be summed-up as “get it while” you can. The hydro gravy train is about to end.
And that’s a good thing.
(Oh I am sure Ford will fight the good fight- but those Hogs will simply hunker down and give lip service to the new govt- while waiting patiently for their beloved LIE-berals to come back and rescue them from common sense and fair play- as imposed by such as Ford!!!!)
