Has anyone ever had a pefect experience in their education? I got the strap for yelling "god dammit" when I twisted my ankle in gym class.

yeah? Did you get the strap for dropping the plate of food you had to take to the teachers in the evening, because you were slave labour once your school day was done? Did you get 10 seconds to scarf as much food as you could between when you served the last plate of food to the teachers, and the first plate needed clearing? Did you spend all your free time scrubbing floors and polishing the kitchen?

I don't think there's much comparing the experiences of residential schools and getting the strap once.

Oh, and incase anyone's wondering, those are the recollections of a white woman I know. We tend to forget that the residential schools weren't just native children. But, needless to say, she never saw any apologies or payments.

I don't know for sure but since I'm perfect, I can only guess that there were no negative consequences gathered from my education.

Was it up hill both ways? Whoever got up earliest got to wear the sock?

Slave labour? Kinda like the Ukrainians that died building our lovely national parks?

Sounds like a regular school day when I was a kid, except we had to walk ten miles........backwards in ten feet of snow.

I know lots of peeps that attended res schools but not one said anything negative about the experience.
They were glad to be able to get out in the "world".

I'm sure there was some bad ones but throwing money at them was the worse thing they could have done.

yes, kinda like that. Why, do you have only a specific form of it you will recognize?

Never mind, don't answer that, you're just trolling today.

I'll ignore the smart assery at the beginning...

At the time the residential schools were the only way for some families to get an education, and despite the treatment, the woman I knows would still pay the price to get her education. And she speaks out strongly against the payments. I just wanted to point out that her story isn't embellished to get gov money (as the smart ass comments imply).

No smart ass comments, thats the truth,I lived with peeps from many different communitys for weeks at a time and I got to know hundreds of them very personally, that happens when you live in the same tent for 7 weeks at a time.

Not one said they were abused, they had no problem taking the cheque though.

I posted an article expressing an aboriginal point of view. I thought it was a different perspective than has been posted so far. Without refuting the views expressed, certain people decided to make personal attacks on the poster. I find that interesting and useful to my human behaviour studies and was what I expected from exactly the people I expected it from. Thanks.

Trolling? Ever sat and listened after Christmas dinner as your grandfather reminissed about the good ol' days in Banff? How about his brother being beat and paid nothing because of his background. Or your dad getting drunk enough to talk about being beat and shot at by Protestant KKK freaks?

Wanna know something else? It was those very same men that stood strong and brought you your free health care today.

So don't give me any bull**** about hardships in Canada because of race or heritage unless it directly affected your family at a paralell.
