The current inflation rate is only about 2%. There really isn't anything to worry about in that area.

Inflation is not technically a tax, but it functions very much like a regressive tax. The rich can hedge all if their discretionary income against it whereas the poor must pay the full brunt of it.

Remember too that 2% is in fact a yearly rate that the BOC aims for. This forces workers to need to strike to renegotiate wages every few years. Since most unions involve public service workers like bus drivers for example, not only do strikes disrupt economic productivity, but disrupt precisely those services the poor depend in the most.

With that on mind, we'd expect the NDP and unions to champion a return to the gold standard or at least aim for 0% long-term inflation rather than purposely diminish the wages and savings of the poor.

If it were a tax, inflation would be the most regressive tax we'd have.

The meltdowns over good news is pretty concerning.

It's clear that we have people here who want bad sh-t to happen to others in this country just because they don't like the current political party in power.

These are the same people that are hoping we get a terrorist attack.

Really? Quote me!

I said it's a good thing in principle, but that it means that government must take advantage of it through austerity to pay the debt and moderate and stabilize the coming boom.

Bloomberg News | August 2, 2016 10:29 AM ET

Canada’s economy is growing at the slowest pace in 60 years and the only thing holding us up is housing
Canada is in the midst of one of its weakest expansions ever, and only the housing boom keeps it from getting worse.

That’s one of the key takeaways from Friday’s GDP report. Two years since oil prices started plunging, Canada’s economy is almost completely reliant for growth on bank lending and the hot Vancouver and Toronto housing markets generating fees for brokers.

Real estate and financial services now account for 20 per cent of the economy, levels not seen in the data since the early 1960s. That could be a problem, with household debt at a record and policy makers scrambling to slow price gains that are making homes unaffordable for all but the wealthiest buyer

is that what they call the walk where 6 guys hold up a coffin?

We might want to lower the maximum rate at which a bank can sell a mortgage.

The lower the rate, the more risk-averse the bank gets. So under such a law, banks won't want to lend to those who can't afford it anymore.

Now some might say that rich borrowers would benefit unfairly from this.

Okay, fine, introduce a moderate wealth tax to compensate.

Done.

I have many joys in life. Making fun of simpletons is but one.

If that's even among your enjoyments, that suggests the others can't be much better.

You must be bored, maybe depressed? Poor guy.

Don't know. Why don't you give us your opinion on the matter. I'm sure it would be hilarious.

We will have super economic contraction, already in motion, and a very big global war to dig out of the economic mess. When a national debt gets unwieldy it just has to be covered in millions of bloody bodies to promote renewal of sustainable growth.

So exactly what is the good news? That anyone fortunate enough to have bought a house in Toronto or Vancouver before 1980 is now a millionare with no effort on their part? Try reading the article. There is no good news in it.

Despite him not because of. The heavy lifting was all done by Harper. XL has nothing to do with trudOWE anyway, The line already goes to the border. But you can thank The Donald for fixing yet another one of Obummer's Fukups.
Didn't trudOWE say no to pipelines when he was electioneering? Also said he would legalize pot.

You wish.

Harper couldn't even get Northern Gateway after creating his own phony board to approve it.

The dictator approach didn't work out so well for him.

Probably because Harper was not even close to a dictator. Unlike Selfie boy who is a cross between a socialist and a facist.

Why do you persist in subjecting the whole wide world to your crass ignorance? Even the most blathering idiot researches his data before displaying it for all to see! IMBECILE!
