St. Louis priest Fr. Joseph Jiang has been charged with first degree child endangerment for repeatedly molested a girl as recently as last summer.

Legal documents say Jiang admitted his crimes first to the girl’s parents and then to Archbishop Carlson. But in between, Jiang left a $20,000 check with the girl’s parents hoping, prosecutors say, to silence them.

Did Carlson tell the police about the check? Nope. In fact, the girl’s mom says Carlson called her and “suggested” that she turn the check over to him, the archbishop. Carlson has now been accused of attempted tampering and has been subpoenaed in the criminal case. Kick them to the curb Why was it so impossible for these two men—Carlson and Finn—to do the right, simple and moral thing?

They are smart men. They have top-notch lawyers. They’ve got expensive public relations teams. But apparently, they lack the ability to do the right thing. That’s criminal, hateful and lacking in any morality. They should be ashamed—and they should be removed.

That’s what Jesus would do. -

North Carolina Pastor Wants Only White People At Front Door


Ms. Thomas said that she does not believe race was the only issue. She believes it had to do with the church’s bottom line. She believes that since black people in the congregation are not the “moneymakers”, the pastor was trying to attract a more affluent membership, a whiter membership. Ms. Thomas correctly states that the method the pastor was attempting to use was deceptive. In her words, “You don’t like put icing on a chocolate cake and think you are eating vanilla.”
Ms. Thomas said she spoke up because of her young daughter. She does not want to leave the earth knowing she did not do her part to leave an even platform for her child.

The saddest part of this story is that the pastor is black. What this story vividly illustrates is the complexities of racism, self-hate, the power of money.

A black pastor telling the black portion of the congregation they were not good enough to be at the front door and that the best of the best in their church was defined by the color white is racist. That the pastor believed that and articulated it expresses a self-hate that would have her not identify herself as being black as well. After-all, if color is an issue with prospective member; would they not leave the church when they realize they are led by a black pastor?

The power of money blinded the pastor from the mental anguish and damage her words inflicted on those receiving the email, black, white, or other. Shouldn’t a pastor who councils the damaged soul be cognizant of that? Thankfully Ms. Thomas displayed the necessary bravery to speak up. Many in church environments are so subservient to the church hierarchy so much so that these types of attacks go unchallenged. It is for this reason the pastor likely believed she could be as blunt, direct, and dismissive.

Teenage Jehovah's Witness loses court bid to refuse life-saving blood transfusion



The 17-year-old cancer victim, known only as X, appealed against a NSW Supreme Court order that staff at the Sydney Children's Hospital should be allowed to give him the treatment.

He told his doctors he would rip the IV out of his arm if forced to have the transfusion, which he believes is akin to being raped.
X is suffering from Hodgkin's disease and his doctors believe he has an 80 per cent chance of dying from anaemia if he does not receive the treatment.

In March, Justice Ian Gzell ordered the hospital be allowed to carry out the treatment on the boy, who immediately appealed against the decision.

While noting he was highly intelligent, a "mature minor" and devoted to his faith, the judge also found the boy had been "cocooned in that faith" for his entire life.

"The sanctity of life in the end is a more powerful reason for me to make the orders than is respect for the dignity of the individual," Justice Gzell said at the time.

In a judgment handed down in the Court of Appeal today, the three appeal judges agreed.

"There is no reason why a different result should be achieved because the [boy] is now five months closer to his 18th birthday," the judgment said.

"The interest of the state is in keeping him alive until that time, after which he will be free to make his own decisions as to medical treatment."

The boy turns 18 on January 18 next year, when he will then be able to exercise his right as an adult to refuse further treatment.

There is a problem with deprogramming. Back in the 80s I was asked by a friend to deprogram her brother who was mixed up with the Moonies. At that time I could have done it, but she also wanted me to help her kidnap him because he would not leave the cult voluntarily. But deprogramming someone also involved reprogramming them. The dilemma for me is: what set of beliefs do you reprogram them to? Another religion, no religion, social beliefs. It becomes very complicated. So what I said to her was, "Is he happy doing what he is doing?" Because in the end, it was her that was having problems with his choice. She had problems with the Moonies. He wasn't in any danger that I could tell from what she told me, so at that point, I thought it would probably do him more harm than good to deprogram him.

So, Yah, deprogramming a fundie who thinks he is doing god's work by harming others may sound good on the surface but How exactly do you do it? What do you reprogram them with? I figure if anybody is that stupid to buy into blowing themselves up, them maybe the only thing that can be done is drug them into a lobotomy or shoot them. And then, what do we do with the self righteous. They cause even more harm to the human psyche. How do we deal with them?

neighbour politics using religion is about killing the neighbour and we
should know the difference by now.

Wow that's a heavy thing to ask of another. As you point out, if he is doing no harm to others and no harm is be-falling him then ethically, it would be wrong to attempt to change that.

I don't see why one belief has to take the place of another belief. We have many beliefs which we hold as truth. Some people have more than others. Why can't one just be helped to understand that their thinking is creating behavior which is contrary to public good. No huh? In today's vernacular I believe they are termed exit counsellors.
