You're right, for some reason I thought it was 6.

"New (and returning) residents are required to complete a wait period consisting of the balance of the month in which residence in British Columbia is established, plus two months before benefits can begin. The date residency is considered to have been established is determined by the Ministry of Health based on a number of factors, including the type of immigration status held. For some persons the wait period doesn’t start when they arrive in the province - it starts later. For example, a person who arrives as a tourist or visitor may later receive a change in immigration status in Canada that qualifies the person for MSP coverage."

I went through the process twice in the past 2 years.

It sucked having to start paying for health care in BC and 65% more for vehicle insurance even with a topped out safe driver discount.

I'm starting to think that you and Cannut are two of a kind

What if that represents what a balanced person looks like? One that is not easily fooled into seeing just one side of the coin.

Perceptual Set

Perceptual set theory stresses the idea of perception as an active process involving selection, inference and interpretation.
The concept of perceptual set is important to the active process of perception. Allport (1955) defined perceptual set as:
'A perceptual bias or predisposition or readiness to perceive particular features of a stimulus.'
Perceptual set is a tendency to perceive or notice some aspects of the available sensory data and ignore others. According to Vernon, 1955 perceptual set works in two ways:
(1) The perceiver has certain expectations and focuses attention on particular aspects of the sensory data: This he calls a Selector'.
(2) The perceiver knows how to classify, understand and name selected data and what inferences to draw from it. This she calls an 'Interpreter'.
It has been found that a number of variables, or factors, influence perceptual set, and set in turn influences perception. The factors include:
• Expectations

• Emotion

• Motivation

• Culture

The article then goes onto cover those point in greater detail. It should be made into a 'test', just kidding, it already is one.

Why would you think that? Anyway I've decided as far as the Senior's Bashing goes enough is enough, so I've decided to start a thread on it specifically with no mention of anyone particularly, but rather just pointing out the fallacy of the attitudes that are running rampant. I don't think the attitude is confined to one person so names won't be mentioned.

BC has a big problem with extended care because people who never lived here retire here and use our pool of money.
Typically someone will work in Alberta and pay into Alberta for their whole working life and then retire to BC in their waning years when they start to use the healthcare system a lot more. Its a complex thing to get the money to the people who need it where they need it.
So when are you moving back home ?

You go ahead and just think what you want, Sleepy! It don't make it right!

Big whoop. How much do they contribute in six months?

CTF had an article on this out a week or so ago.

Maybe the 6 months is more for reducing paper than for the actual money collected.

I never knew pension income was tax free.

Where is the bottle depot's finest fiscal conservative and financial genius to explain this?

Many of them go thru life spending like there is no tomorrow, then they expect the government to look after them when they retire,

Well, because the government does.

Many seniors are house rich, but cash poor. If the housing market bursts, there will be a lot of shiftless millennials who will actually have to work hard for a living instead of coasting as their inheritance will be gone.

This is the answer to the question of why another million immigrants in the next 3 years.
Plus refugees
Plus TFWs
Plus plus plus
Gotta keep that bubble inflated, at all costs.

Can't say I'm surprised that seniors don't want to discuss these issues. I'd be uncomfortable as well if I was a senior and spent all my time talking up my accomplishments and ignoring the damage done

I'm sure most of them didn't give it a moments thought.
Canada being one country, with provincial governments getting top up money from the Feds for things like healthcare.
It's not a question of seniors creating damage.
The government didn't charge enough for CPP etc; while health costs and life expectancy rose,
CPP rates of paying in didn't rise fast enough or high enough.
Because that would cost votes.

Fiscal Conservatives don't flit off down to Arizona a couple of times a year for a golf game! They go to the local driving range or Par 3 Course.

Money out has exceeded money in for most of the last 50 years. Billions of dollars in public debt. Seniors haven't looked after themselves. They've saddled their children and grandchildren with that burden.

You equate "fiscal conservative" with "tightwad"? Interesting.
