Lottery winnings are the retirement package of choice by a large segment of the population. Right now it is only government employees that know they will skate through retirement as they have throughout their employed life.
Even those of us with union pensions face a risk that it will disappear when collection time comes as it has been known to happen in the past.
I'm thinking that perhaps all pension funds should be administered through CPP or else use employer paid RRSPs instead of a company pension plan. Then it is up to the employee to invest as they see fit.

Judging by your wattage I can see why Alberta Human Services and Alberta Health Services funds the community job program you participate in.

We contract with Alberta Human Services and Alberta Health Services and collaborate with other community based organizations, health professionals, mental health outreach, probation officers and the Medicine Hat Police, and community members, in a shared vision where people are healthy, safe and feel connected to the community in which they live.

If it holds true, and as most economists predict, and that China will be the world economic power by 2030, and thus America will be unable to finance its multiple trillion dollars of debt, there is going to be nothing for anybody. Every promise made to the working class since the end of WWII will disappear.
The economic collapse may be slow to arrive, but it will happen overnight.
People need to begin to view every news story for the "Hidden Agenda" of governments preparing for the oncoming economic collapse. All the anti-terror laws, the mass surveillance, safe bunkers for the Ruling Class, are all in place for this exact reason. Every protester will be named a terrorist. Every "No Fly List" will have all the Professional Protest Organizers unable to travel. Every street will be crawling with opioid addicts on the prowl for a relief of their cravings.
Anybody with money in the bank will lose it because it will be seized as a "Bail-In".
All the federal insurance for deposit gurarantees is a load of crap. In the U.S. the FDIC has only 8 billion dollars available or set aside for an event of this type, and the law says the insurance payouts have a 20 year grace period before having to be paid.

I think the problem here is that younger Canadians do not understand that when you get old you get broke - or they are just coming to terms with that and their first instinct is to blame someone or envy someone.
Let me tell you flat out - there are very few seniors citizens who are not struggling to make ends meet.
The difference between you and them is that you can still earn money. By and large they can't.
