Backwater, Ontario.
Used to be reds over town here, then McCarthy cleaned them up.(moannnnnnn) Then the blacks invaded. No more reds.

Blacks are Greys I'm told. I live trap them, take them to a snotty neighbourhood and release'em.:laughing6:

Over the last five years, I have donated many to those less fortunate than ourselves. If you can't help out a squirreless neighbourhood, what good are ya??

Blacks are quieter than Reds...........I don't care for either as they ruin our lawn playing "lets hide our nuts", threaten my neighbour's house with " chew the attic wiring, " and other squirrel games.

Drowning seems harsh........shoot em, if you must. Relocate them if you can. Anyplace but our neighbourhood if you don't mind;-) (you'll only get them back)

the whole province of alberta is overrun with easterners. calgary is spreading into the outlying areas at an alarming rate, displacing the folks in the smaller towns and ruining their way of life.

i wonder what the best method of culling newfies is, and do they make good eating too?

Newphs? Easy, bye.... Invites 'en iver for dinner and marinates 'em with lots of Screech ... when 'e's 'ad a few and talkin' like an Ontarian, tells em: any one Albertan can lick tree Newphies. Eating? No prob. You might be sippin' it through a straw for a coupla weeks.

Cheers....

Herman, will you keep us updated on the decision that's made? Or is there a address where we can provide our 2cents?

this forum i speak of is not one where decisions are made by members. I have already been warned that any posts I make which declare the drowning of squirrels to be "cruel" will be deleted. their advice to the people of the area is and will remain "drown them if they're the wrong colour".

It's not the cull I object to. Sometimes, it's the kindest option. It's the method. Drowning is neither swift nor painless - and the animal is wasted. Like it or not, there is a market for both hide and meat.

There are always humane ways. It just goes to show that empathizing with animals is hard for some. Even those who profess to love wildlife.

Wow. Are greys really a threat to reds? I agree with missile, we have blacks greys and reds all getting along just fine in our yeard. The reds are the biggest pain in the butt....they're most territorial and think they own everything and are not shy about chattering about it....endlessly!!

We enjoy our squirrels, they're adorable and hours of fun watching them play.

Oh, and Nuggie....lawns are introduced!!! Get the roundup out and eradicated that foreign weed will ya! Nothing is more environmentally taxing than a green lawn around here.

Cats and dogs will hunt them too. Hawk, eagle, will also take them. Most people don't know it but Fox and Coyote are running around in parks and backyards before it's a park or a backyard. Part of the problem is that we don't build in a way to support the ecosystem that is already working there.
