I dont see the connection.

As I understand it,we didn't fund her or put her into parliment. She went out and got funding, then won enough votes to get elected.
Every dollars counts in book.

The taxpayers funded her party for approx $2 per vote that she got in last election.
And yes, we are now paying her salary @app $150k + per yr plus all her expenses,,, fro
BC..
And what will we get in return??

No different than for any other party that met the requirements.

The same thing you get from the MP elected in my riding, an elected representative. The same thing I get from the MP elected in your riding, an elected representative...All voting age Canadians have the right to elect a representative.

wow some rude people..

Green will never become a serious party. she gets no time to speak and no money. she'll be like a stooge, just sitting there listening to everyone. she needs another 11 seats to get any privy power.

but if she seriously thinks that she'll gain anything from this, she is fooling herself.

you are a pig.

Durry, you're pathetic. what a mean and completely useless thing to say!

And you complain people in here are Rude?

Way to set an example

About time. Finally, a million Canadian voters have a single representative - only about one-fifteenth what they should have under an intelligently designed voting system.

I'm wondering how your "intelligently designed voting system" will maintain the ridings as closed units?

well, most of us want to be able to send a local rep to parliment,

Plus, we want to be able to vote for a party. This would be used to top up the seats in parliment to reflect the correct proportions of each party.

Also a reason to vote candidate and not party.

There will never be a common voting behavior on this issue, some will always vote for the candidate and others will always vote for the party. And then these same people will change their voting pattern depending on the candidate and the party they wish to see in power.

Nope.. She is a self-styled prima donna that thinks that the rules needn't apply to her because she is saving the planet.

Hell, prior to her winning a seat this go-around, she was nothing more than a green lobby, yet she believed (I mean truly believed) that she should be included in the debates... Talk about an over inflated ego.

25.5 % of the voters in the Calgary Central by election of Nov 2012 Voted for the Green Party

No different than for any other party that met the requirements.

No different than for any other MP.

Not quite. Support for the Green Party runs up against the Riding system.
A modest start would be a run off election against the top two contenders when ever less that 50 % of the vote is received. The method by which the Mainline parties run their leadership conventions.

Thoughts??

Elizabeth May is an idiot.

This is what happens when she arouses the ire of someone with an actual detectable IQ: (on twitter)

Elizabeth May MP @ElizabethMay #SFT13 No mention of monument to victims of capitalism. :) #cdnpoIi

Jason Kenney @kenneyjason
. @ElizabethMay Perhaps that's because no one was shot in the back while risking their lives to flee eastward over the Iron Curtain.

Got some sour grapes or something Colpy? Resurrecting a 2 1/2 year old thread just to complain about an MP from the other side of the country and at the opposite end of the political spectrum. Who is really the idiot here?

Ahh...in case you haven't noticed, expressing political bias and flinging crap at those of opposing political views across the country in a futile attempt to make others see things your way is the entire reason for the existence of this site.

You thought maybe something else was going on??

Now who feels silly??

At least Colpy availed himself of the CC search function and inserted the lizzie post in a related thread.

I on the other hand, slipped the same post into the throne speech thread where it was obviously missed unless someone was interested in that topic.

Either way, Mrs. May took a sharp spank on her flubbery butt cheeks.

I'm sure by now most people in Canada have heard about this by now, so what's everyone's opinion on this?

Even though I am a conservative I will give credit where credit is due and in this case it is. Its certainly a step forward for May and her party.

I doubt if my thoughts have changed since May 2011, but she could probably organize a cookie sale at her polling booth!

If the $$$ that the Feds send to the provinces via transfer payments does not make it to her constituency - I might just have a very hard look at the provincial government.

That would really be a shame, IMHO. I believe there is a place for the Green Party in our country and time in the House would go a long way to showing them the reality of government.

In the Labrador by election of 2012 the Sitting MP, PEter Penashue was ousted as the protest vote went liberal. In the 2012 Calgary By election, the Conservative Cadidate, Joan Crockett, Squeaked in, but the protest vote went Green, 25.5% ,or the highest on record. Which would indicate a strong grassroots green vote, whenever it appears the party might win.
